7/7-20/7 Tour of Qinghai Lake (2.HC)
19/7 Stage 12/13 Zhongwei 120.8 km
Rasmussen Reports: We have traveled about 250 km south from Yinchuan to Zhongwei, for a short flat stage. The Gao Miao in Zhongwei was originally built during early Ming dynasty 14-1500’s, but has had to be rebuilt several times due to natural disasters. The temple is multi religious with elements of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism.
Gao Miao 高庙:
Pre-race strategy: Another stage where Sonder may have a chance, but it is unlikely that we have the energy to dominate the peloton again today. We have to hope others will take over.
Profile:
The morning break is 7 riders they get about 4 minutes. As we are now used to in China, is it again a very hot stage.
Under the 5 km mark, the breakaway has got a good gab, it is possible they will make it.
Ryan Roth (Champion) attacks up front, the others in the breakaway doesn’t react.
Roth wins the stage in Zhongwei over Patrick Schelling (Atlas Personal) with 43 sec to the peloton.
Sondre Holst Enger gets in as 7th, winning the bunch sprint.
Rasmussen: A good result from Sonder, but not enough to reclaim the points jersey.

Too bad the breakaway wasn't caught as that was a really strong sprint by Sondre. |

7/7-20/7 Tour of Qinghai Lake (2.HC)
20/7 Final Stage 13/13 Lanzhou Circuit: 91.7 km
Rasmussen Reports: the caravan has driven about 250 km southwest from Zhongwei to Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province located on the banks of the Yellow River.
Evidence of People living in Lanzhou, dates back 15.000 years, the city got its current name in 581 AD.
Today the city has a population of around 2.2 mil people.
A temple on Five Springs Mountain:
Pre-race strategy: The last chance for Sonder to get the points jersey, we will do our best to help him.
Profile:
38°C !, every single rider ready on the start line looks tired, looking forward to this hot adventure in chine, to be over in just 92 km. The race starts with a huge breakaway of 12 riders, we have got Mitchell Lovelock-Fay in the group.
From there it is more than 80 km of constant chasing in a very high pace, big chunks is riders can’t follow, their China adventure is over. With just 3.5 km left the breakaway is over.
Sonder takes the wheel of Ellisonde, leading the duo over the last hill, seems like the other sprinters can’t follow.
The duo takes a double win, 57 riders get the same time as Sondre Holst Enger.
Rasmussen: Great last stage, Sondre took his 4th win of the season reclaiming the points classification.

RideLondon-Surrey Classic (cat 1.1)
London – London: 214.1 km.
Rasmussen Reports: Today we are in London for the RideLondon-Surrey Classic, with start near Lee Valley VeloPark in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. From there the route goes through the hills of Surrey, then back for a finish at The Mall in London.
The Mall was originally a field for playing Pall-mall a precursor to modern day croquet. From the 17th century transformed into a fashionable promenade, bordered by trees.
The Mall London:
Pre-race strategy:
Roster:
Francisco José Pacheco
Martin Pedersen
Mitchell Lovelock-Fay
Philip Nielsen
Sebastian Balck
Sondre Holst Enger
It is 20°C and very cloudy, could look like is might be rain. The race starts with a long series of attacks, often with good riders, but the peloton is very aggressive won’t let anything go. Finally after 58 hard km Javier Moreno (Garmin) is allowed to get away and things calm down a little.
After a while Moreno is joined by Cristiano Salerno (Bardiani) and Matteo Rabottini (Lampre), over the next more than 100 km, they have between 2’30 – 3’30 to the peloton.
Most teams is not interested in a breakaway win, many riders take part in the pursuit, including several of ours, the break is over with about 12 km left. Just as the peloton is about to reorganize a surprise attack from Yukiya Arashiro (Garmin) countered by Mickaël Delage (Europcar).
The reaction from the peloton comes too late, Arashiro wins the stage over Delage, Sonder Holst Enger wins the mass sprint, taking the last podium.
Rasmussen: Very fine race, a podium is always great.
Result:
1 | Yukiya Arashiro | Garmin - Sharp | 4h38'03 | 2 | Mickaël Delage | Team Europcar | s.t. | 3 | Sondre Holst Enger | Christina Watches - Onfone | s.t. | 4 | Kristian Sbaragli | MTN - Qhubeka | s.t. | 5 | Alexey Tsatevitch | Katusha Team | s.t. | 6 | Ken Hanson | Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies | s.t. | 7 | Bernhard Eisel | Vodafone | s.t. | 8 | Adam Blythe | Vodafone | s.t. | 9 | Aidis Kruopis | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 10 | Mitchell Docker | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 11 | José Joaquín Rojas | Banco Santander | s.t. | 12 | Jens Keukeleire | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 13 | Scott Thwaites | Team IG - Sigma Sport | s.t. | 14 | Zakkari Dempster | REWE | s.t. | 15 | Blaz Jarc | REWE | s.t. | 16 | Jakob Rathe | Garmin - Sharp | s.t. | 17 | Marco Bandiera | Team Nippo - De Rosa | s.t. | 18 | Yusuke Hatanaka | Team Nippo - De Rosa | s.t. | 19 | Roger Kluge | REWE | s.t. | 20 | Maciej Bodnar | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. |

21/8 Coppa Agostoni (cat.1.1)
Lissone – Lissone: 198.7 km
Rasmussen Reports: We are here in Lissone Italy, just 18 km north of Milan. For the semi classic Coppa Agostoni, a race dating back to 1946. Lissone is a community of about 43.000, the town was first mentioned in the 10 century.
The race is held in honor of Ugo Agostoni, winner of Milan–San Remo in 1914. Agostoni was born in Lissone 1893, killed 1941 during WWII.
Pre-race strategy: We expect the climbs to be hard on the pure sprinters, but we are not sure if it is a stage for Sonder or Kenny, we will protect both.
Profile:
Roster:
Davide Malacarne
Francisco José Pacheco
Kenny Elissonde
Mads Würtz Schmidt
Martin Pedersen
Patrick Clausen
Sondre Holst Enger
Yves Lampaert
It is 33°C in the Monza area today, not unusual on the high plains of Lombardy, this time of year.
We get Francisco José Pacheco in the morning break, but clearly the weaker rider uphill, it is not the best situation. The break gets a max. of about 7’30.
At the first of the 3 hard climbs Malacarne attacks, realizing at Pacheco can’t win the stage. Kenny Elissonde sits back in the peloton keeping an eye on the favorites.
Pacheco falls back to help Malacarne making him able to catch up with the leading group, before the last climb. At that point Group Malacarna is 1’58 sec in front the favorite group of 42 riders, Pacheco sits somewhere in between.
About 15 km to the line, the sprint trains is forming in the peloton, but the front group has still got 40 sec., it seems more and more unlike that the peloton will make it. Then just after the 5 km mark, Alessandro Bisolti (Bardiani) attacks in the front group, Malacarna counters.
Malacarna is marginally the strongest today, beating Bisolti with just a wheel length. Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) wins the mass sprint in the peloton.
Rasmussen: We expected a different outcome, but again a brilliant race victory form Malacarna the 6th this season, his strategy was perfect.
Result:
1 | Davide Malacarne | Christina Watches - Onfone | 4h45'03 | 2 | Alessandro Bisolti | Bardiani Valvole - CSF Inox | s.t. | 3 | Angelo Pagani | Lampre - Merida | s.t. | 4 | Ivan Rovny | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 5 | Sergei Pomoshnikov | Itera - Katusha | s.t. | 6 | Matteo Pelucchi | IAM Cycling | s.t. | 7 | Caleb Ewan | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 8 | Sondre Holst Enger | Christina Watches - Onfone | s.t. | 9 | Daniele Ratto | IAM Cycling | s.t. | 10 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 11 | Ben Hermans | Atlas Personal - Jakroo | s.t. | 12 | Tiziano Dall'Antonia | Bardiani Valvole - CSF Inox | s.t. | 13 | Jens Keukeleire | Orica - GreenEdge | s.t. | 14 | Gediminas Bagdonas | Atlas Personal - Jakroo | s.t. | 15 | Jonathan Fumeaux | IAM Cycling | s.t. | 16 | Francesco Bongiorno | Bardiani Valvole - CSF Inox | s.t. | 17 | Lloyd Mondory | AG2R La Mondiale | s.t. | 18 | Tony Martin | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. | 19 | Luca Ascani | Cannondale Pro Cycling | s.t. | 20 | Dries Devenyns | Omega Pharma - Quick·Step Cycling Team | s.t. |

24/8 – 15/9 Vuelta a España
Christina Reports: We are very clear on the fact that this is a very different beast compared to the racing we are used to. We bring the strongest squad possible, but we know the top teams will be stronger, so we can’t and won’t set a specific goal, we are just happy to be here. Any stage result within top 10 or a GC within top 20 will be considered a major success.
We have chosen Davide as leader due to his great results lately, but Kenny will be free as a sort of co-leader, Sonders is the top sprinter.
GC – riders:
Davide Malacarne
Kenny Elissonde
Sprinter:
Sondre Holst Enger
Domestique:
Lasse Bøchman
Martin Pedersen
Mitchell Lovelock-Fay
Patrick Clausen
Sondre Holst Enger
Stefan Schumacher
Yves Lampaert
A look at some of the race favorites:
Betancur-Astana : Frank-BMC : Van Garderen-BMC : Atapuma-Katusha : Kreuziger-Saxo
Top sprinters:
Cavendish–Quick-Step : Sagan–Astana : Greipel–Lotto : Degenkolb-Argos
There are not extremely many very strong GC riders, but there are a lot of great sprinters.
First week preview:
The opening prolog (7.2 km) will set the first “race leader”, but can’t be sure how long that will last. Stage 3 (26/8) will provide the first KoM leader, but it is with a sharp uphill finish to “Alto del Naranco” at stage 4 (27/8) we will most certainly find a new race leader, presumably a race favorite. Stage 6 (29/8) have got two sharp hills close to the finish, another stage that could provide some gaps on the leaderboard. Otherwise the first week will mostly be with focus on the sprinters and points classification.
Alto del Naranco:
