Volta a Portugal – Stage 2

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage2_zps0b5d4139.jpg

Today was the first of many hilly stages here in Portugal. It’ll be interesting what we can do from now on.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%202/PCM1419_zpsbde737f9.jpg

We had a breakaway from ten riders. Rodrigues didn’t get away, so it was trainee Jesse Lee who was in it. He did well although he’s not strong enough yet to fight for stage victories.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%202/PCM1420_zps533f77af.jpg

Meanwhile we got a strange action from race leader Tuft: he attacked with thirty kilometres to go, but got caught. After that there were many attacks but none of them succeeded. Meanwhile all of our riders were out of the peloton, except for Rodrigues. The Portuguese champion is in good shape and he really wants to show his national champion jersey.

We got a small group who sprinted for the victory. Oss won the stage. Rodrigues did great to finish fourth. A nice result from our national champion. We’re happy with today’s stage, although it’s a shame Remuzgo lost time.

Good effort in the sprint by Alexandre Wink

sutty68: Yes, it's a very good result from him. It's also nice to see he's able to show his national champion jersey in his home country, because he really wanted that.

Volta a Portugal – Stage 3

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage3_zps97535c9c.jpg

Today’s stage ended with a climb so we thought it could be a nice stage for Remuzgo.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1422_zps60aa9b23.jpg

So it was him who was in the breakaway. Actually it was just surviving the stage and hoping that he could start the final climb with an advantage.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1423_zps92371917.jpg

And he could. The breakaway was three minutes in front of the peloton when the four kilometre long climb started. Remuzgo immediately attacked and took a gap. He really had to hurry because the peloton was setting up a high pace.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1424_zps24d4e20e.jpg

Although the climb was only four kilometres, it was very long for Remuzgo. Most parts of it were 15% or more steep. At least there was enough crowd to encourage Remuzgo.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1425_zps917ff84f.jpg

Even the Tour-devil was here to cheer on Remuzgo. But could he hold on? The peloton was coming really close, because the other members of the breakaway were already caught.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1426_zps8d38c245.jpg

In the end it was really close, but Remuzgo won the stage here in Portugal! What a great result, because the Volta a Portugal is a big race. He managed to stay just in front of Stetina and Boswell. Rodrigues did great to finish 8th in the stage. He’s now sixth in the GC, while Remuzgo is ninth. What a great stage for us!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%203/PCM1427_zpsf1923186.jpg

Here is Remuzgo on the podium, celebrating his victory. What a great one!

And of course the newspaper of the next day. This is pretty awesome.

Today's Winner

The Rider
Banana What a result, he may have lost time on the previous stage, but after that performance WHO CARES! Cool

Fantastic to see Rodrigues battling in amongst the favourites on the final climb as well. Wink

sutty68
That was a Great show of strength from Remuzgo Grin

tmr96
Close finish, but a great victory of Remuzgo Smile

The Rider: A good classification is a goal as well but I prefer stage victories above a good classification. This was a great victory from him. Rodrigues did well as well to follow the peloton but I don't think he can ride a classification here.

sutty68: He has improved, didn't he? An awesome victory indeed! Grin

tmr96: It was very close indeed but I'm so happy he stayed in front. Grin

Volta a Portugal – Stage 4

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage4_zpse01c0f0e.jpg

The fourth stage was, comparing to the second and third one, quite easy. We didn’t expect any trouble for our two riders in the top-10.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%204/PCM1429_zps4bb8b7b3.jpg

Trainee Jesse Lee was our rider in the breakaway. He’s currently in great shape and we want to give him a lot of experience this year, so he’ll be better next year. He did well and survived the big climb during the stage.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%204/PCM1430_zpse459c362.jpg

First it looked like the peloton was going to catch the breakaway easily, but suddenly they stopped riding, which was good for the breakaway.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%204/PCM1431_zps1f233786.jpg

Lee doesn’t have a good sprint but he did well with not finishing last of the breakaway. He took the sixth position, while the breakaway contained nine riders. Curvers beat all the English speaking countries and took the stage victory. Our riders in the Top-10 finished without any problems in the peloton.

Today's Winner

That was a good day in the saddle for Jesse Lee Smile

MrUfo87
sutty68: A very good day for him indeed. I'm happy that he can follow the professional cyclists already, but of course he still has to learn a lot.

Volta a Portugal – Stage 5

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage5_zps53bc44e2.jpg

This stage finished on a final climb as well, just like two days ago, when Remuzgo won. We first had a breakaway of thirteen riders, but it got caught eighty kilometres before the finish.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage%205/PCM1432_zps6c1e35f6.jpg

After that we got the duo Euser and Preidler. They created a big gap and several riders attacked to chase them. Lee, who was 22nd in the GC after yesterday’s breakaway, attacked as well. The peloton immediately increased its speed. While they tried catching him many riders lost contact to the peloton. When they caught him the group only included nineteen riders. Quite funny that the peloton reacted this way. Especially because Euser was the number 23 in the GC, and they gave him the room.

On the final climb the leading duo still wasn’t caught. Remuzgo was our only rider in the ‘peloton’ left. He did very well.

Just like two days ago it was very close, but Preidler just won the stage in front of Boswell and Stetina, who are clearly the strongest riders here. Remuzgo did very well by finishing eighth. He’s now sixth in the GC. Rodrigues fell back to the seventeenth position in the GC. All by all it’s been a good day for us.

Today's Winner

Ian Butler
That 5th place is just around the corner!

MrUfo87
Ian Butler: We're very close to the Top-5 indeed. Hopefully we can go into it.

Volta a Portugal – Stage 6

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Volta%20a%20Portugal/Stage6_zps480f312a.jpg

The sixth stage of the Volta a Portugal was a hilly one, but almost all stages are hilly stages so maybe it’s too much to say that before every stage.

Nevertheless we got a big breakaway with Carty in it. The young Colombian winner of the Hot Wheels – Porsche Talents Race seems to be very talented. We know he still need a lot of experience and he got in trouble during the stage, which isn’t strange for a trainee.

When we were on the last climb before the final climb Remuzgo got in trouble as well. He lost contact to the peloton, while Rodrigues was still in it. He lost time today which isn’t very good news for us, although we’re not sure if we really should focus on the classification with a thirty kilometre long time trial coming up within the next few days. Nevertheless Remuzgo lost time today and he fell back to the 12th position in the GC.

This time Boswell and Stetina didn’t came too late and it was Boswell who took the stage victory. The gap between them is nine seconds in favour of Stetina. It’ll be interesting with a mountain stage and a time-trial still to come.

Today's Winner

Sad to see Remuzgo slip out of the top ten Sad

MrUfo87
sutty68: Unfortunately he lost time today, but there are still many stages to go so hopefully we can take some time back.

The Rider
The team are just like a yo-yo, up and down all the time! Remuzgo looks a fantastic pure climber, but will he improve in the short steep hills? Wink

MrUfo87
The Rider: Remuzgo isn't very consistent at the moment indeed. I hope he'll become better at short climbs because otherwise he could lose unnecessary time in the future. For now I think he can still finish within the Top-10, so that'll be our goal for the remaining stages.

USA Pro Cycling Challenge – Stage 1

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage1_zpsee4e7e7d.jpg

The first stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge is a prologue. While one part of the team is riding in Portugal, and I can say not without success, another part of it will ride here. With Vincent Rogers, Jeffery Aguilar and Ian Watson we have some of our best riders over here.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%201/PCM1438_zpsb2285403.jpg

To was our first rider to start here. He did very well and took the second place at the moment, ten seconds behind the leader Van Emden. Chapman really surprised to beat To’s time and take over the second place from him. He was eight second slower than Van Emden. But then came the surprise of the day: Will Burton did an awesome job to take the second place over, less than a second slower than Van Emden! But there were still some good prologue riders to come, but who could be the time of Van Emden. Kruijswijk? No! Scarponi? No! Kelderman? Also he couldn’t. Van den Broeck started as last and also he couldn’t beat Van Emden’s time, so that means that last year’s overall winner takes the first stage of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. And even more important: Burton takes the second place! This by far our best result in a time-trial, except from To’s Hong Kong Championships ITT victories. Chapman and To completed this awesome result by finishing sixth and tenth! Well done guys!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%201/PCM1439_zpsf87b4260.jpg

Burton takes the lead in the young rider classification. We haven’t heard a lot about him since his sixth place in the Grand Prix de la Marseillaise at the start of the 2013 season, but hopefully we’ll hear more about him now. Well done!

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/USA%20Pro%20Cycling%20Challenge/Stage%201/PCM1440_zps60bd0e74.jpg

And our three riders in the Top-10 made sure that we’re the first leader in the team classification! We’ve never had such a good time-trial and we’re very happy with it. Pretty awesome job guys!

Today's Winner
