UCPCL World Tour - Cobbles and Catalunya Lists

Good stage for the team. Shame another breakaway won it and that there we're no attacks.

Jesleyh
Good stage, 2nd place for Wynants!
De Kort securing a few 'wear KoM jersey' points again as well Pfft

Still, I don't like having the break winning again.
Can't have them finishing high on the GC, want Voeckler + Schleck both taking a Top 10 in the GC. Wink

Are you insinuating the results already or was that just a joke? Shock
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Nice try by Ulrikkson with the late attack, shame he got caught out and couldn't hang on

STAGE 3

STAGE INFORMATION

Vitoria-Gasteiz - Eibar-Arrate 154km
forallmyfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/profile-Vuelta-Ciclista-al-Pais-Vasco-2012-stage3.png
Stage 3 finishes 1 km after a mountain, the Alto de Usartza (7,3km @ 6,7%). This stage is this year's queen stage and will deliver fireworks. The climbers will attack on this mountain, an they'll battle it out in the little flat part after it. The chances the break can hold on are very small, but you'll never now, regarding the previous 2 stages.

THE RACE

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0001_zpsfbce6cf4.jpg

Today's morning break: Amets Txurukka (ABC), Sergio Ribeiro (CCC), Branislau Samoulau (PER), Daniele Pietropolli (ING), Marcel Wyss and Angel Madrazo (both MCS). 30 seconds behind them is a big group with Robert Ulriksson (SGM), Marek Rutkiewicz (TAM) and Daniel Fleeman (ITV), Bartosz Huzarksi (IOQ), Jose Serpa (MAG), Ramunas Navardauskas (TLI), Alex Cano Ardila (CCC), Raymond Kreder (PBG) and Philip Deignan (TUG). The peleton does not give them a big gap. Their maximum lead is around 1 minute.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0002_zps474430d2.jpg

The two groups form one group just before the first mountain sprint of today. Txurukka wins it in front of Huzarski and Deignan. The peleton is closing the gap, only 40 seconds now.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0003_zps925af43f.jpg

And that's it for the break. They get caught 115 kilometers before the finish line.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0004_zpsa13091f0.jpg

An attack by Fabian Wegmann (SGM).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0005_zps26ae83c3.jpg

Someone hits the tarmac in the peleton. It's someone from ING-InBev. Is it Thomas Voeckler? Is it Frank Schleck? No, it's Serge Pauwels. He can return to the peleton very quickly.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0006_zps9d1a1deb.jpg

The German can't get rid of the peleton. He gets cuaght just after the second mountain sprint of today, which he won.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0007_zps6bb564a1.jpg

Some team-leaders are attacking. The attackers are: Tadej Valjavec (SGM), Carlos Betancur (FWB), Laurens Ten Dam (PBG) and Daniel Navarro (CCC). It might be early, but you never know if they make it all the way.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0008_zpsfe96b16e.jpg

Navarro wins the first intermediate sprint. The lead is around 1 and a half minute.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0009_zps540bc6fb.jpg

Betancur wins the mountain sprint on top of the Alto de Karabieta. The lead is increasing, 2 minutes now.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0010_zpse74de975.jpg

Here's race leader Luca Paolini (RBM). He can't follow the peleton's pace. But there are some favourites inside this group, including Jean-Christophe Peraud (IOQ), Ryder Hesjedal (BAR), Daniel Moreno (CAT) and Rinaldo Nocentini (PER).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0011_zps1b528515.jpg

At the same moment, a split occurs inside the peleton. Some prominent people in the second group are Philippe Gilbert (LPU), Jurgen Van den Broeck (HAI) and Frank Schleck (ING). Robert Gesink (MCS) is even a group further behind.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0012_zps677fab67.jpg

Betancur wins the next mountain sprint. Here is the current situation: E1-1:30 group Contador-2:15 group Gilbert-3:15 group Gesink-5:00 group Hesjedal/Paolini. All times are taken from the first group.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0013_zps98812c9f.jpg

Navarro wins the intermediate sprint. Gilbert and co. re-joined with the group of Contador.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0014_zps947b64a2.jpg

Navarro also wins the next mountain sprint. Betancur has to let go the other 3. 1:30 behind the 3 leaders is what's left of the peleton. 1 minute behind them is a group with Gesink and 2 minutes behind the peleton is a group with Hesjedal.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0015_zps39b591ac.jpg

Nobody can stop Daniel Navarro. He wins another mountain sprint. The gap with the peleton is only 30 seconds. A group has to let the peleton go. Included are Van de Broeck and Gilbert.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0016_zps75871865.jpg

10km to go. Navarro is yet to be caught by the peleton. 1 minute behind the peleton is the group Gilbert. 2:30 behind that group is Gesink and 1 minute further down the road we find a group with Hesjedal.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0017_zps0f549a0b.jpg

Navarro can hold the peleton off untill the last intermediate sprint. This means he starts the final mountain of today, the Alto de Usartza (7,3km @ 6,7%).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0018_zpsce00915f.jpg

The Spaniard is caught. Diego Ulissi (FWB) attacks!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0019_zps2294a8ab.jpg

However, Navarro can stick with the Italian. Andy Schleck attacks with Samuel Sanchez, Manuel Cardoso (RBM) and Lars Petter Nordhaug (HAI).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0020_zps0edf628d.jpg

5km to go. We have more favourites who attack. Alberto Contador, Rui Costa and Igor Anton (MAG) are trying to chase Schleck and the others.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0021_zps0a2c0d16.jpg

4000 meters to go. Schleck has a gap over Sanchez. Contador places a second attack and only Anton can follow.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0022_zpsda5094ad.jpg

Oh no, Mikel Nieve (CAT) falls in the remaining peleton. Multiple riders can't dodge him and go straght over him. Somehow, he survivies it all without blood or any injury and he gets up his bike very quickly. What a hero!

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0023_zps2e410ca5.jpg

Andy Schleck has only 2 kilometers left. 25 seconds behind him are Contador and Sanchez. 25 seconds behind them is Anton. 1 minute behind the Spaniard are Costa, Ulissi and escapee Navarro.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0025_zps7882e08f.jpg

1 kilometer to go and the climbing is done. Schleck grabs some points for the mountain classification. 45 seconds behind him are the 3 Spaniards. The 3 musketeers have a 1-minute lead over the remaining peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0026_zpse14e621a.jpg

Victory for Andy Schleck! He deserves it.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0027_zps5c64521d.jpg

Sanchez wins the sprint for second place. Contador finishes third and Anton fourth.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0028_zpsafa6dc53.jpg

Costa fifth, Ulissi sixth, Navarro seventh.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0029_zpsfb8838b4.jpg

Haimar Zubeldia (RBM) wins the sprint in a group just before the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%203/PCM0031_zpsa03ba81e.jpg

Here is the group with Van de Broeck and Gilbert. They finished 6 minutes behind today's winner.

The following riders came outside the time-limit: Martin Gilbert (BAR), Nelson Oliveira (BUL) Alexander Serebryakov (CCC), Jacopo Guarnieri (FWB), Janek Tombak, Wim Stroetinga (both HAI), Eric Baumann (IOQ), Jonathan Bellis (ITV), Markus Eichler, Elia Viviani (both MCS), Joseph Cooper, Leigh Howard, Roman Van Uden (all PBG), Charles Bradley Huff (RBM) and Dag Jensen (TLI)

Schleck won. There's no realism in that.

VOLTA CICLISTA AL PAIS VASCO

STAGE 4

STAGE INFORMATION

Eibar - Bera-Ibardin 151km
forallmyfriends.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/profile-Vuelta-Ciclista-al-Pais-Vasco-2012-stage4.png
Another uphill finish, but this time the riders have to negotiate the Alto de Ibardin (5,6 km @ 5,2%). This stage is almost a copy of the previous stage, so some riders who had a bad day there will seek for revenge. Who is the first one at the top?

Welcome to today's broadcast. The riders who attacked out of the peleton are: Moreno Moser (BUL), Robert Ulriksson, Stefan Schumacher (both SGM), Ruben Plaza (MAG), Cameron Meyer (LPU), Zdenek Stybar (PER), Angel Mardrazo (MCS), Joao Cabreira (TAP), Luca Ascani (FWB), Miguel Rubiano (PBG) and Maxime Oget (TLI). But the peleton won't let them go so easily.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0002_zpsb729170e.jpg

Meyer wins the first mountain sprint. It will also be his last, because he and his companions are reeled in by the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0003_zps0786489f.jpg

Here is the new breakaway: Plaza, Moser, Enrico Gasparotto (PER), Serge Pauwels (ING), Filippo Pozzato (MCS) and David Zabriskie (TLI). Their lead is around 2 minutes.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0004_zps7018fce3.jpg

Zabriskie wins the mountain sprint without sprinting. The lead increased to over 5 minutes.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0005_zps72321233.jpg

The next mountain sprint is also for the American.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0006_zpse5e5d65b.jpg

Pauwels wins the intermediate sprint in front of Pozzato and Moser.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0007_zpseaf10d53.jpg

A mountain sprint. I guess I don't have to tell you who won it. The lead decreased to 3 and a half minute.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0008_zps4a0be0f0.jpg

The intermediate sprint is for Plaza. Gasparotto and Pozzato can't follow the pcae of the breakaway and are1 minute behind. The peleton is 3 minutes behind,

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0009_zpsec5cfa7a.jpg

Some riders are attacking out of the peleton. They are: Rui Costa (TAP), Thomas Voeckler (ING), Igor Anton (MAG) and Haimar Zubeldia (RBM).

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0010_zpsd0861a93.jpg

Oh no, a crash. It's Egor Silin (CAT). It doesn't look that bad, but, but, but what's this? His entire team (except Daniel Moreno) is helping him to get back, including Thibaut Pinot.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0011_zps2fe38bc4.jpg

Only 5000 meters left for Zabriskie, Plaza, Pauwels and Moser. 1 and a half minute behnind them are Gasparotto, Pozzato and the late attackers. They are only 45 seconds in front of the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0012_zpsab5b32e9.jpg

4 kilometers to go. Pauwels attacks.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0013_zpsc4c05667.jpg

3km. Pauwels has been caught. 1:30 is the lead over the peleton, including the 6 chasers. We can see a Caterham-train 4 minutes behind the peleton.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0014_zps1e4835b3.jpg

The leader attacks! Andy Schleck (ITV) is followed by Daniel Navarro (CCC), Samuel Sanchez, Benat Intxausti (both ABC), Alberto Contador (AGT), Voeckler, Anton and Costa.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0015_zps5140c331.jpg

2km to go. The favourites can see the break.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0016_zpsf95e2e84.jpg

1500 meters. Pauwels, Zabriskie and Plaza start their sprint. Moser couldn't follow their pace.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0017_zps31e94991.jpg

Pauwels is in the lead. A. Schleck, Contador and Sanchez are closing in.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0018_zps3d52a6ba.jpg

500m to go. Schleck comes close, but can he overtake the Belgian?

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0019_zps2daf67f3.jpg

Pauwels raises his arms, but it might be to early. Schleck comes with an last push.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0020_zps7a90a187.jpg

But it isn't good enough. Serge Pauwels from ING-InBev wins today's stage. Schleck has to settle with the second place while Contador finishes third.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0021_zps56f51084.jpg

Sanchez takes the fourth place in front of breakaway members Zabriskie and Plaza.

i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y433/Marcovdw/UCPCL/Volta%20Ciclista%20al%20Pais%20Vasco/Stage%204/PCM0022_zpsb829ffdd.jpg

Anton wins the peleton's sprint and takes seventh place. Most favourites are inside this group.
