First cobbled classic for us, and the first sponsor goal. STARK wants a top 5 and both Thor and Lars are looking strong so it should be very possible.
Lindau is covering the early breaks for us, forcing RadioShack to start working early on. Philip is having a really bad day and instead Jens Erik Madsen starts chasing the breaks and immediately gets away in a large group.
As the cobbled sections really start getting serious with 64 km to Madsen & Co. has just over five minutes to the peloton.
Being the only decent cobbler in the break Madsen quickly pulls away.
Behind Steegmans is pulling the peloton so hard that it’s starting to break. Luckily the Falcons were all near the front…
With 25 km to go Jens Erik has 2’15’’ to the favourites.
11 km to go and Jens Erik can see the favourites coming from behind.
In the end 38 riders are left to sprint for the win. Hushovd in a decent position with 1,5 km to go. Thor puts in a good sprint, but just not early enough enough to catch Boonen and Cancellara. 50 m more and he would have had them...
Nice podium for Thor.
Boonen and Cancellara sprinting against each other they are in the same team. If boonen didn't win that would be a stupid mistake.
Winners never quit, quitters never win.
It's difficult not to be happy when you're surrounded by Belgians. - Mark Cavendish
Last year Hushovd won this race and this year he will be highly motivated to repeat that.
He's not the only one hpoing to take advantage of RadioShack not being here though...
It’s a rainy day in Belgium, but Jens Erik is keeping warm by going chasing the breaks.
To many teams want to win today and every single break is reeled in as fast as it establishes. With RadioShack – Nissan and Rabobank missing and BMC coming without Ballan the playing field is left open for second-rate cobblers.
Seven riders manage to get away and somehow keeps a lead of a minute with 7 km to go in spite of plenty of teams helping in the chase. Stallaert takes the win off the break. A disappointing day for us, but the Belgians seem happy…
Jakstar: Probably should, but I had hoped Bak could have gotten them a little closer than he did. When they were two minutes ahead Hushovd would have been to tired to win the sprint had he attacked anyway...
Rider of the month: Luis León Sánchez, Movistar. The Spanish rider dominated both Vuelta a Mallorca and Vuelta a Andalucía. Not much more to say really… Nordic rider of the month: Tobias Ludvigsson, Volvo – STARK. The young Swede had his breakthrough with his first professional victory on the last stage of Giro della Calabria.
Tobias Ludvigsson
Congratulations on being chosen as Nordic Rider of the month. You had a good late season last year, which made your name being noticed, but I don’t think many expected you to grab your first win already. Did you?
No. Not at all. I think the only one confident that I could win was the manager. He talked me through the finish and yelled so hard in the radio that the soundwaves made my leg move faster.
It’s great to beat an experienced rider like Dall’Antonio that way, and I will do my best to make sure its not my last victory.
Where do you see your career going now?
First of all, I’m not going anywhere. My contracts until the end of next season and hopefully I can stay here even longer. I think this is the best place for a young rider as myself to develop. I still have a lot to learn!
I dare say you emerge at a time where the Swedish cycling fans are starting to get desperate for some young talents. When will they get to see you win next time?
I don’t know. For now I’ll be working for the team leaders in the next races building up to the Giro where I will be supporting Fuglsang in his GC ambitions. Hopefully I can use the Giro-form to do well in the National Championships.

Looks like we’ll be heading in to a new era for French cycling as both Europcar and AG2R La Mondiale will cease sponsorship after this season.
Apparently a spot on the World Tour is not enough the keep Argos Oil in the game either.

Our sponsors want us to achieve a GC top 10 in the race that was last year won by Thor Hushovd. Thor will not be defending his title as he’ll be riding Tirreno – Adriatico this year. Instead we’re betting on Löfkvist and Chris Anker Sørensen, who will have some great support as well.
Stage 1: Issy-Les-Moulineaux
A 4 km prologue over a small hill.
Van Emden is the first rider expected to set a good time, but he is only provisional 4th 4 seconds slower than Voeckler.
Former Australian TT-champion Richie Porte is even slower. Konovalovas is first to beat the Frenchman.
But Rosseler is even faster.
Many mention Roman Kreuziger as one of the main favourites for the overall win. He will have to wait a bit to get a jersey though.
Ukranian champion Oleg Grivko was clearly hoping for a win, but only got a provisional third. Tony Martin is pretty much unbeatable when in form, but is he fit enough to beat the Belgian today?
Very much so as he improves the best time by 6 seconds. I expect that will be the winning time. Bak is looking sharp and determined as he sets off.
A provisional 9th is a decent result for him. Van Garderen is giving it everything that he’s got on the last section, but he’s only strong enough to a second place. Wiggins is last rider with the slightest chance of challenging Martin.
The British champion is nowhere near beating the German though.

Stage 2: Cloyes-sur-le-Loir - Buzançais
Partyday for the sprinters. We’ll try to get in the break and see what happens along the way…
Swedish champion Lindau get in the break along with among others the Russian and Latvian champions. Philip goes to the front demanding the only KOM of the stage and he gets it. The break has 82 km to go and a gap of 5’46’’
40 km to go and the gap is down to 3’19’’. RadioShack, Garmin and OmegaPharma look determined.
20 km and 1’44’’. Looks like Philip is the only rider in the break getting something out of today.
6,7 km to go and the break is still alive 1’12’’ ahead of the peloton.
3,5 km to go and the break is finally caught as Bak struggles to deliver Jebjerg on a good wheel for the sprint. RadioShack on the other hand made a perfect train for Boonen.
I didn’t notice any crashes but apparently Andy Schleck lost more than five minutes on todays stage!
Slightly more hilly than yesterday, but that won’t stop the sprinters chasing this stage.
It was a near impossible stage for a break to get going but in the end Nybö get away with 6 others.
Van Emden was the strongest on the hills and all-in-all the break never stood a chance to last all the way.
With 13 km to go the break has just been caught as Chris Anker Sørensen crashes on the wet roads.
With 5 km to go we’re looking good in front of the front group. Goss takes it on a hard uphill sprint. Kasper did his best but just didn’t have the power.
In the last 10 km Chris attacked limiting his time loss, but the crash was expensive for him.

Stage 4: Limoges – Maurs la Jolie
The organizers call this a flat stage. But the hill 40 km from the finish might do some real harm…
Once again Havard get in a break with Saramotins.
With 100 km to go the break has a 9 minute gap and Nybö is in the provisional lead.
50 km and five minutes- AG2R leading the peloton.
20 km and 1’30’’
10 km and 52 seconds.
With 8 km to go at the start of the descent De Gendt crashes and takes half the peloton with him. Riber-Sellebjerg and Löfkvist are both down as are GC leader Boonen. Havard does his best in a chaotic sprint, but was too tired to do much.
The groups are coming fast from behind and in the end most riders are put down for the same time.
