One note from this rest day:

9 stages, 9 winners from 9 teams and 8 nationalities.

not really, both HTC and Farrar are American. Wink

That's why is 8 nationalities instead of 9 Pfft

But Basque does not really count as a nationality on it's own. And both Anton and David Lopez are spanish. Pfft

I forgot about Anton's win.

Drama continues - Andy Schleck and Stuart O'Grady have been sent home from the Team Saxo Bank squad at the Vuelta. Frank Schleck is still in.

bad boys who have changed a team are not welcome anymore?

I don't know what has happened. Riis said something about "internal rules", but denied that it was a doping issue.

Just before the start of todays stage Riis briefly stated that "Andy and Stuart won't be starting todays stage" - he said that they had broken the internal ruleset on Team Saxo Bank, but that it was not a doping issue.

Riis is rumored to have promised an explanation after the stage. This is interesting because as far as i know, Riis has just arrived in Spain a day or two ago. So this could be something that's happened before the Vuelta - we'll see.

They both drank alcohol in the evening. Silly boys.

Apparently they went out late last night.
Unprofessionalism is typical of both of them, I must say.

Frank didn't go. Which is professional and typical of Frank, I must also say.

An exerpt from Cyclingnews.com

"Riis boots pair for drinking alcohol

Bjarne Riis has removed Andy Schleck and Stuart O'Grady from the Vuelta a Espana after the pair violated team rules by drinking alcohol after dinner.

Andy Schleck confirmed the news to Cyclingnews, releasing a statement while on his way home:

"I acknowledge that I have broken a rule on the team by going out for a drink after dinner and for that reason Bjarne has decided to send myself and Stuart O’Grady home."

"I’m responsible for my actions and even though I think it is too harsh a decision, I respect that Bjarne is the boss and he needs to do what he thinks is the best."

In addition, danish site Sporten.dk's sources claim that we're apparently not just talking about sharing a bottle of wine, but a solid bender.

More important than Saxobank`s drinking evening Wink

Rodriguez was 3rd of 1st sprint today, so he is in the virtual red jersey and will probably get it this evening.
He really wanted this especially after they withdraw the sprint a few days ago, where he got some points, too.

That's "sick", in the middle of a grand tour.. I've been dumb enough to do that myself during a 2 week long training camp.. The day after was a nightmare.. My legs didn't work and my body was crushed.. So doing that in a grand tour is pretty sick...

Remember David Millar in the Tour on the stage after he had been out for a drink? He finished last and struggled all day to make it before the time limit.

Bad example - particularly if youre suggesting that was the only reason for his struggles. Millar, who crashed 3 times on the Spa stage and had a virus/stomach bug to add to that.

Haha, yeah that was quite epic. I remember Rolf and Dennis talking about it before the stage. Went a little something like "did you hear what David Millar said, that he'd been drinking last night? That's just INSANE, he is going to SUFFER today!"

lo and behold, Millar got dropped early on the first climb, rode alone all day. He was outclimbed by McEwen fer gods sake Grin

Edit: #939, really? Did not know that, about the virus. Could've been a "spin" tho =)
