And I suppose your right on the defensive midfielder (in that we don't have one). I don't rate Hargreaves at all, but we do have players who could play in that role, like Gerrard, but he always pushes too far forward - which is a problem when playing both Lampard and Gerrard together, they just play the exact some way (except Lampard can never get the ball on target for England).
Apart from that, we have Beckham, who I still feel is in a class of his own. His distribution is phenomenal, the passes he makes are perfect, he works 100% every game and Mclaren should never have dropped him.
@GK - don't ever forget our worst one, David James, who's mistakes are the stuff of legends over here

I think you're right about the defensive midfielder. Because in the Swedish national team I don't rate the so called superswedes highest (Källström,Ljungberg,Zlatan) but our defensive midfielder and hard-worker Tobias Linderoth. I must say he's one of the most underrated players in the world. Without him Sweden wouldn't have the shadow of a chance to go thorugh the group-stage every single tournament. I think Galatasaray have done the buy of the year buy signing Linderoth. |

Capello on being England manager
Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello would welcome the opportunity to take charge of England and admits it would be a 'beautiful test'.
England are on the lookout for a new boss after the Football Association sacked Steve McClaren on Thursday morning.
McClaren paid the price for England's dismal failure to qualify for Euro 2008 and a shortlist of possible replacements is being touted with Jose Mourinho and Martin O'Neill among the reported contenders.
And Capello - who was dismissed by Real despite leading them to the Primera Liga title last season - has revealed he would be interested in succeeding McClaren.
"Me to coach England? It would be a challenge, a beautiful test to overcome and I would have the right age," Capello said on TV channel Rai.
He says it will be a test. It will be a test of how long he can keep English fans happy, which will be hard to do

Mourinho on England getting knocked out of the Euro's
"I was always a supporter of the England national team and England's clubs.
"A European championships without England is not the same as one with them."
Allardyce has said no to the England job, probably because it allways ends up to be a bad decision to take the job
Redknapp has refused to rule himself out of the job. But doesn't belive the FA would even consider himself as a prospective manager.
The odds on certain people to manage Enlgland
SkyBet.com have former Chelsea boss Mourinho ranked as 7/2 favourite to replace McClaren
Meanwhile, Villa manager O'Neill is at 9/2 but spoke Wednesday - prior to England's exit - branding rumours of him taking the reigns as 'complete nonsense'.
Former FA target Luiz Felipe Scolari is ranked at 8/1, while Alan Shearer is rated as having an outside chance at 12/1.
and i can't think of any other names

Finally the BBC has posted an article saying that Mourinho doesn't want the England job. It took them a while to work that out

"I've got a massive job at Reading, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm very happy with that" - Reading manager Steve Coppell
who asked him

A new manager enters the race, that now means we have a total of 3 interested managers, about 5/6 that have said no, and a few others that we will stalk until they say maybe
Van Gaal would take England job
Former Holland coach Louis van Gaal has declared an interest in becoming the next England manager.
The Dutchman has been in charge at AZ Alkmaar since 2005 and has also had spells in charge of Barcelona and Ajax.
Van Gaal, 56, said there is a clause in his AZ contract which allows him to leave for a national team post.
He said: "There are many candidates but I'm willing to do it, otherwise I would not have a clause in my contract about a head coach's job of a national team."

LuÃs Figo (translated, obviously )
What Van Gaal does is impossible. If someone told me before I saw it I'd call them liars. With Van Gaal no one can have fun. "training is serious he says". But he's an extremist. If anyone so much as laughs, everyone does push-ups or runs around the field. he's a tyrant. So of course players don't want to play for him.

I'm not too keen on him being the coach but at least some people want the job. I'd rather have a really strict coach who wants the job, than a cool coach who doesn't.
Basically, I want Capello
I would like Redknapp but then Portsmouth would probably get relegated

Humberto Coelho

They all said they would be interested in coaching our national team... Seeing that no football trainer is interested in signing with Portugal I here by apply for the job...
My CV is as follows:
Lots and lots of days lost playing Football Manager (since CM2 season 96/97 more precisely)
And lots and lots of patience when dealing with spoiled brats such as C.Ronaldo and R.Quaresma...
Do I have the job?

Now seriusly, I'd like to see a portuguese coaching our national team... Maybe even Rui Caçador... Or maybe José Couceiro... No... Just Rui Caçador...

Rui Caçador? worst possible choice. in his entire career he has done horribly at every single team. it's a mistery how he has a job

yup, that sums it up nicely.
the only other good choice is Mircea Lucescu, but he's promised Pinto da Costa that he'll coach Porto someday, so I can't see him with the national team.
also because I want to see him coach porto. in the last seven years, he's been Pinto da Costa's first choice every time and he always said no

Not someday... Make it today, or next season to be more realistic... I'm sick and tired of seeing Jesualdo Ferreira run our team into the ground... So many awesome youngsters we have and still he continues to try and make a decent winger out of M.Gonzalez when he could be giving a chance on the big leagues to H.Barbosa or Vieirinha who at this moment are at least as good as M.Gonzalez...

no matter who the manager is, he's always criticised. we're winning, so people should stop complaining. even when Mourinho was manager everyone was always complaining at all times that "we should be playing better than this"
Barbosa is a left winger and Vieirinha has huge attitude issues. right now the closest to a first-team slot are Barbosa and Machado. but they'll have to wait. it's the Porto way. they get loaned out forever. some might only make the team when they're 24. but that guarantees that when they do come back here, they're pretty damn good.
Carvalho for instance only made the team when he was 24 after being loaned out forever. Barbosa for instance will be loaned out next season with 99% certainty.

No arguments there but you have to admit that there is a lot of potential in FC Porto that just goes to waste... And most of the times we end up buying semi-top players that turn out to be absolute rubish almost 75% of the time... We don't have a good history when it comes to the football market, at least not as buyer... The only thing that seems to be making up for our lake of scouting talent when it comes to solutions for the team in a short time is our great scouting talents when it comes to youngsters(Anderson, Leandro Lima, Bruno Moraes, Ukra, Bura)...
And btw, this Bura is going to be great... And soonner than anyone thinks...

on the contrary, we have one of the best records in the world, and that's what has put us in a great financial position, compared to most clubs. we have a great record. we buy cheap and sell expensive. there are quite a few exceptions, but they're a lot less than at most clubs. and that's something that every Porto fan should be very proud of

fact: in any sport, young talents are ALWAYS overhyped. check any sports forum from years ago and compare the expectations for talents to how they ended up developing. that said, we had a fantastic generation that were european champions under-17 in 2003 and it's gone a bit to waste.
Márcio Sousa was a star at the time and went nowhere.João Dias and Tiago Costa were good and went nowhere. Zequinha has the worst attitude I've ever seen in anyone, ever. Gama was by far the most brilliant and hasn't been that good for some unknown reason. Vieirinha thinks he's a star, so he doesn't try hard. etc.
Nuno Coelho seemed awesome at 16 but he seems to have stalled now. but give him time, defenders take more time and he has every chance of being a full international one day.
our best prospects right now in the generation that just turned pro are Daniel Candeias (forward) and André Monteiro (Left Winger), who are both on loan at Varzim in their first senior season. the generation after that is quite bad with no-one having a shot at the team. maybe Ricardo Carvalho or Tengarinha. maybe.
after that, they're too young to judge but Caetano seems promising

Bura? you mean the central defender that played for the under-19 team? he was released over a year ago. god knows where he is or even if he still plays football.
and who's Ukra? what a stupid name, and I don't even know him, which I'm finding extremely strange. I usually know every Porto player from the Juvenis upwards

I can tell you that he was not released over a year ago because he only came to Porto in the 2006/07 season. Before that he was in FC Infesta. Last year he was in the starting eleven of Porto's Juniores every match except one. He scored 5 goals and he has been in every single under 20 selection since the under 20 WC. He is still under contract with Porto (untill 2010 to be accurate) and he is on loan at Ribeirão (2nd Division Group A) where he is playing regularly and begining to shine. Rio Ave already want him on loan in December.
About Ukra, attacker, on loan at Varzim, first year on a senior team. Doesn't ring a bell?
