Daniel Martin 2012
matt493
Cunego will be my only competition for the GC and J.Roelandts and Ventoso are the only ones who can compete with Farrar for sprints. I was hoping it would be much tougher.

Cunego? just follow him during the mountain stage and beat him in the time trial! you need to be fresh for the world championship
When Nothing goes rigth, go left...

matt493
Actually he is still only a 77 mountain. Also I got up to stage 3 and it sucks theres not any good talent. And a race with 70km/hr wind causes a lot of strange things to happen.

Wiggins and Millar's transfers are a bit unrealistic. Pfft

You have to win the Vuelta with such a weak field. Grin

Problems with budget? Or you just want to built a new team

yeah I agree but I can't do much about it.

The problem is that progression speed is set so high that riders decline much sooner and those riders are getting older, with the exception of a few.

matt493
I have a question. Do you want me to post the Vuelta even though through 7 stages it's been a complete domination? Or should I skip to the worlds?

post, but it's not very interesting just do it briefly.

Week 1

Stage 1
The first stage, was completely flat and would be contested by the sprinters. A long train including Van der Velde, Maaskant, and Scoullar was used to set up Farrar. Farrar dominated the field and won. Scoullar took 6th place and Van der Velde took 9th.

Stage 2
Another flat stage, and just like stage 1 it came down to a sprint. We had the same train today but this time no one could come even close and Farrar and Scoullar took a 1-2 finish.

Stage 3
The 70km/hr winds and the 40degree celcius weather cause a chaotic race where 27 riders crashed including Monfort. Also at the end of the stage a large split came, and only 15 riders were in the front group. One of those was Cunego and I was in the 2nd group 52 seconds back. We took a 1-2-5-9 with Farrar, Scoullar, Maaskant, and Van der Velde.

Stage 4
The first mountain stage of the Vuelta resulted in me riding away from everyone, putting on the yellow jersey and beating everyone else by 2 minutes. I had a lot of help from my team mates who were able to thin out the peloton by the time we reached the final climb.

Stage 5
A fast train results, in 7 riders, riding away from the peloton. I was the only rider in there, and Farrar takes another stage win ahead of Roelandts and Sulzberger.

Stage 6
I win another stage, this time the terrain was hilly. I beat Joquim Rodriguez(74 mountain 74 hill) by 11 seconds but beat Cunego by 54 seconds. Rodriguez moves into 2nd overall.

Stage 7
Herrada wins the stage after a successful breakaway. I finish 8'13 back with Cunego and Kolden, finishing in 9th place.

Week 2

Stage 8
Farrar beats out Ventoso and Sulzberger for another dominant sprint victory. Farrar now has a firm grip on the Points jersey.

Stage 9
Carlos Barredo wins the Mountain stage, ahead of Cunego. I finish 3rd, losing no time to any of the favorites.

Stage 10
In the time trial Fothen beats Marcel Wyss and I manage a great time, finishing 3rd just ahead of Maaskant who comes in 4th.

Stage 11
Farrar wins another stage, on a flat stage it will either be a breakaway or Farrar as Farrar proves he can not be beaten.

Stage 12
On the flat stage, Maaskant slips into the breakaway and beats out Hayman and Sabatini for the win. After missing most of the season with 2 separate injuries, this is a great win for Maaskant.

Stage 13
Christophe le Mevel wins the stage after a long breakaway. I finish 5 minutes back in 8th place in a group 50 seconds ahead of Cunego. Meier crashed and was forced to abandon on this stage.

Stage 14
Frohlinger gets the win from another successful breakaway. I lead the favorites for 6th place, but I'm still 14 minutes back. Cunego and Barredo finish along side me.

Week 3

Stage 15
Jesus Hernanadez of Astana moves into 3rd place overall after beating the peloton by 15 minutes on the flat stage. Farrar leads the peloton through the finish taking 2nd place. Apparently the peloton didn't feel like working.

Stage 16
I finish in 2nd, 4 seconds behind Markus Fothhen in the 24km time trial. Wyss finishes in 3rd and Maaskant continues a strong Vuelta, finishing in 5th.

Stage 17
Farrar wins another bunch sprint and Scoullar takes 5th but the news today is that Cunego crashed out. He was 6 minutes back but he was still holding on to 2nd place. This will also hurt his chances at defending the World RR Championship Jersey.

Stage 18
I finish in 5th place, 1'09 back from the breakaway. The only rider who could stick with me was Barredo, everyone else lost over a minute again today.

Stage 19
Luis Leon Donoso takes his first stage win of the year, and survives the breakaway. I finish with a bunch of the other favorites 2'19 back. I'm really proud of the young rider.

Stage 20
I win the mountain time trial, but the real surprise was Donoso took 2nd, with the exact same time as me. Velits finishes 3 seconds back for 3rd place, and I now have a 5 minute lead on 2nd place going into the final stage, a place where no time will be lost or gained.

Stage 21
Farrar wins another stage, beating Team Milram's Baumann for another victory. I finish 1st in the GC, 1st in the U25, 2nd in the Points, while Farrar finishes 1st in the Points. So an easy Vuelta for our team. Up next is the worlds.

The Giro was more fun because there was actually some competition. Oh well.

Worlds Time Trial Championships

I would like to welcome you to Ireland, where I am a citizen of. I’m excited to be here and would love to impress the home crowd. I am not a top time trailer so I didn’t have high expectations but I did want to do well. I felt good and right from the beginning I knew I had a chance to be in the top 20.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/me.jpg

I continued the great ride, and as I crossed the finish I was in 8th place! I ended up in 12th, which is very good, especially since I am not a great time trailer.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/Ifnish.jpg

The defending World TT Champion, David Zabriskie, has seen his skills drop since last year, so he was not expected to win again. He did, however, still manage to finish in 10th place.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/DZ.jpg

Gustav Larsson was expected to contend for the race but he was only able to finish 6th, a disappointing finish for one of the top time trailers.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/Larsson.jpg

Wiggins was pretty good and despite not being on top form, he finished in 5th 3’20 back from the winner of the stage. He will be a great pickup for Club Bourgas next year.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/Wiggins.jpg

Andreas Dietziger came in 4th. He was largely unknown coming into this race and wasn’t expected to finish in the top 20. He must have been on top form to pull of that performance. In 3rd was Markus Fothen. He was the 2nd rider to go and his time stood as the best for most of the race. He finished 2’56 back of the winner.

i65.photobucket.com/albums/h201/matthew493/Daniel%20Martin/2011/World%20ITT/Fothen.jpg

The top two was really a fight between Phinney and Cancellara, two proven time trailers who are the best at what they do. Phinney was very good today, but was 2nd best to Cancellara, as Cancelarra will wear the rainbow jersey next year as the time trial champion. He smashed Phinney’s time by 1’34. WOW
