France have several problems:
1. Anelka holds on to the ball for far too long and keeps trying to dribble past his markers. Which is stupid when he's got 2 or 3 on him. He may get past one, but getting past the others isn't gonna happen.
2. Ribéry was the worst player on the field against Uruguay. He looked disinterested (just as Malouda accused him of being) and in the few occasions where he actually tried, his runs were always to the byline and his crossing was awful.
3. Govou's movement was very good, as it always is, but when he had the ball he was inconsequential.
France will do a lot better against Mexico than against Uruguay's system, as there will be more space to exploit.
Yes, Gourcuff didn't do much, but he had no space to do anything with. If he plays this poorly against Mexico where he will have more space, by all means drop him. But not based on the Uruguay game.
For once, Domenech got his tactics not completely wrong (a rarity!) but there's a motivation issue there. Players hate each other and hate the coach and are publicly criticising each other.
Without motivation and stability, they're not going anywhere. France at a very big risk of imploding
Couldn't agree more.
Just to note, disinterested does not mean uninterested, it means impartial. |

Concerning France, the biggest problem I see is the starting line-up. I mean Govou is a good player, but he's getting old, he's absolutely overwhelmed (is that use correct?) when the players are fresh, he'd better enter when there's juste 20 minutes left.
Sagna is... well... is Sagna. I miss Sagnol when I see him, and I'd prefer to see a guy like Demont, I can always dream.
Abidal is still an obsolute mystery for me...I just can't understand why Domenech still makes him play at this post...
Anyway, I'm not the coach, we have a great team, so I just have to hope |

Concerning Van Gaal, he didn't do anything great at Bayern, the soul reason why Bayern did so well is because the whole team plays in the service of Robben. They do all the dirty wirk so Robben can shine.
I don't rate Van Gaal that highly, he f.cked up with probably the best dutch team in generations, not qualifying for WC 2002 |

You maybe right about the 2002 Wm qualification, but you are wrong about bayern.
You just need to watch the Champion League semifinal and see how Bayern played a pass play that had never done. It took some time for the time to get used to him but afterward he demonstrated that he is good trainer sometimes.
Please be fair!! |

YES NEW ZEALAND!
I watched the whole game for that. Am I right in saying that Winston Reid is half-Danish or something? They could have done with him.

He was born and lived in New Zealand till the age of 10. To add a bit of salt to the Danish *cough* pride *cough* he did play with the Danish Under 21 national squad before being selected by the New Zealand team for this wordl cup back in spring of 2010 |

Drogba'll start on the bench against Portugal because of his arm cast. So he might play

Mexico or not Mexico, France will kick up their playing and are waiting for some appropriate substitutions from Domenech - wake up Domenech ooh wake uup

Good point, that's right. It reminds me of how well he played when he came on the pitch at the end.
Something sure, we can do nothing for Anelka. He keeps hanging around with a ball... The only thing he has ever achieved is drinking a f* whole beer through... Just get away dude - turn the tv on, rest and have a fresh beer

I don’t like the term ”group of death”, it’s a cliché. It has been used about at least one group in every single major international cup for the last 20 years.
If they at least varied it somewhat, e.g. “the francotalian massacre”, “the group of an interrupted dream”, “the narrow sieve”, I might be more okay with it, but no, always “group of death”.
Also, in regards to group G, there is hardly anything deadly with Portugal and the Ivory Coast. One of them struggled immensely in the qualifying and the other one might have a couple of nice sounding names here and there, but they really do not work well as a team at all.
Whoever wins (my tip would be Portugal), will have the benefit of postponing their humiliation until they meat Spain in the Round of 16.
Then we have Brazil vs. North Korea. I will now come with a very drastic claim: do not underestimate the North Korean defense. Yes, I know that this basically the weakest team on paper, against one of the very best. But North Korea has some unorthodox approaches, due to their isolation, that could benefit them, although it will likely work to their disadvantage as well.
The North Korean coach is also a very strange man, for better and for worse.
My point is though; if Brazil does not score an early goal, they could very well go into a long goalless period that will slowly be fueled by their own frustration. Still, they should win eventually (duh). And indeed, if they crack it early, it could be a goalfeast.

haha, the NZ game cracked me up. I was about to go on a rant about how slow and boring they insist on playing in front of the whole world, then they made the game worth watching with the last goal |

Carasso likely out till the end of the tournament...
Gallas injured again, it might not be such a bad thing, he's not really of the reassuring kind these days. Especially with Abidal, they seem to lack mutual understanding.
Poor Goucuff though, disliked by most of his team mates. And it'll only go worst. Too intelligent, or not stupid enough, I guess he looks too intellectual for a sportsman... Added to that, he's quite far from the level he had one year ago. Won't work...
Govou is really poor offensively, especially with the ball. But we don't have proper right wing players (Ribery without such an ego could be one). None of the other players who can play there defend as well as him. Valbuena is way too light, Anelka or Cissé are supposed to be forward players, even if they can be convincing at attacking as wing players.
Ribéry and Anelka... It's difficult to keep Ribéry on the bench. But he'd be more useful on the right wing, most likely. Hardly ever passing the ball to Govou isn't helping anyone either. Same goes for Anelka, who can't help coming down to get the ball, when his job (unpleasant, ok), is to stick at the front, moving and tiring centre backs. Like Guivarc'h did, or whoever. If those two can't stick to orders, there's no point in having a tactic or even in having them on the field, as ridiculous at it might seem, they could as well have remained home or on the bench if they don't intend to change anything...

Ah C.Ronaldo already started his game of falling down. It only took him 5 minutes to gain the first free kick |

10 years in New Zealand, 11 in Denmark. Has both Danish and New Zealand citizenship. |
