The last stage of the Giro il Sardegna takes us from Oristano to Gesturi. The first 163 kilometres are pretty flat, but the last 6 kilometres have an average gradient of 5.8%. The last chance to get Rodríguez out of the 1st place!
Summary of the first 163 kilometres: BOTD rides away and gets caught...
And back to the action. The last clim has started and just within the last 5 kilometres GC's number 4 Thomas Dekker attacks. He has a great daily form of +5, whereas his teammate Kelderman has a daily form of 0. So Kelderman decides to ascend in his own pace. Ony GC-leader Joaquím Rodríguez is able to react on the attack of Dekker.
With about 3 kilometres to go, we see Dekker and Rodríguez in the lead. Sergey Firsanov (Itera) and Damiano Cungeo (Lampre) follow at '24, the group with Kelderman and Tiralongo at '35.
Dekker gives it all, sprinting for the stage win, but he can't beat Rodríguez. So the 2nd stage win and the GC-win for Purito for the 2nd year in a row. Kelderman looses almost a minute, which means he is passed by Dekker for the GC.

Today's and overall winner
Word from the DS
We are very happy with the results in this Giro d Sardegna. Although we didn't get a stage win, we have two riders in the GC-podium. Dekker and Kelderman are ready for the Tirreno!
Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the start of the season of the Northern classics and the first cobbled race in the season. Many short steep hills in the Flamish ardennes, but a longer flat part to the finish in Gent.
In 2011, the race turned out into a sprint of a 15-man group, with Tom Veelers (Skil-Shimano) being the fastest.
The favourites *** Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma), Fabian Cancellara (Nissan - Radio Shack), Thor Hushovd (BMC) ** Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Sylvain Chavanel (Omega Pharma), Matti Breschel (Rabobank) *Niki Terpstra, Philippe Gilbert (Lotto), Johan Vansummeren (Garmin)
Our goals
The race isn't difficult enough to get a small group to the finish, so wit a larger group we won't stand a chance. No sprint abilities. So top 10, just like last year?
A group of 11 riders ride away. 10 of it are really bad cobblers, so when the hills come, with the cobbled sections, one rider remains up front: Lotto's Jurgen Roelandts has a 6'14 lead with 75 kilometres to go.
On the penultimate cobbled section, 25 kilometres before the finish in Gent, the gap that Roelandts has to the peloton has become smaller. Only 2'02...
A 30-man group approaches the last cobbled section. Roelandts is about to get caught, and we have no sprinters in this group. So a new plan: try to create a gap! Vanmarcke is in the lead with 10km to go, followed by Maaskant & Terpstra.
But the hard work of Vanmarcke & Maaskant isn't enough to stay in the lead and the chasing group of favourites catches us. 3 kilometres before the finish, Belgian champion Philippe Gilbert (Lotto) attacks and Niki Terpstra tries to follow him. Will this be enough for a good result?
No! Terpstra seems to be completely wasted, no energy left, and still 1500 metres remaining. Strange to see that an attack was ended so quickly. The chasing group overtakes him and a top 10 will be impossible now. Gilbert is still in the lead, but Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma) is the one with the best sprint left!
And Tommeke takes his first ever win in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad! Gilbert gets 2nd, Geraint Thomas 3rd. Terpstra finishes in 12th place.

Today's winner
Word from the DS
We are not happy with the result, but are satisfied with our performance today.
Traditionally, one day after The Omloop, the riders face the hills and cobbles of Kuurne - Brussel - Kuurne. The route is easier as in the Omloop, with only a few hills (the Oude Kwaremont is the most difficult one) and the last cobbled section is 43 kilometres before the finish.
Therefore, the race mostly ends in a mass sprint. In 2011 German André Greipel was the fastest, beating our Theo Bos.
The favourites *** Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma), André Greipel (Sony Ericsson), John Degenkolb (M&M's) ** Juan Antonio Flecha (Sky), Sylvain Chavanel (Garmin), Greg van Avermaet (BMC) * Bjorn Leukemans (BMC), Jens Keukeleire, Philippe Gilbert (Lotto)
Our goal
It will be difficult to get a top 3 as in 2011, because our sprinter Keukeleire has a bad form (77). So we aim for a top 10.
We try to get in the BOTD. Sébastien Rosseler makes a few attempts, but doesn't succeed.
After the last cobbled section, a group of 80 riders will decide who's going to win. All 8 of our riders are in the first group.
Tom Veelers (M&M's), last year's winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, attacks with 15 kilometres to go. He can't create a big gap and the peloton catches him with 7 kilometres to go.
We are the only team that sets up a sprint train, but despite of giving it all (Terpstra with 99 on dot), we get easily passed by the other riders in the last 3 kilometres Flecha and Bert De Waele (Landbouwkrediet) make it a long sprint.
But when Tom Boonen starts his sprint under the flamme rouge, it is clear who is going to win. No one can follow Tommeke. Our riders aren't to be seen in the first 10...
Tom Boonen is that dominant, he even creates a gap of 18 seconds in the last kilometre (yep, right, stupid game....). He takes his 3rd win in Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, and is the first rider in the 66 years history of the race to achieve it! And in his first two races of the season, he takes the Omloop-Kuurne double, great performance!
Think you can't call this a sprint for the 2nd place. A compact peloton crosses the finish line, with Juan Antonio Flecha in 2nd and Bert De Waele in 3rd. Lieuwe Westra is the best from our team in 13th place.

Today's winner
Word from the DS
Disappointed. That's the only word for this cobbles-weekend.
Our "Italian" squad stays on the isle of Sardegna for the Classica Sarda Sassari. A hilly classic, as so many in Italy, with a long climb in the middle of the race and a uphill finish.
Last year's edition was won by Luca Mazzanti, for the Farnese Vini-team. This year's edition has a stronger starting list, with Katusha, Lampre, Farnese, Colnago and Monster as the most important teams.
The favourites ***Wilco Kelderman, Vladimir Karpets (Katusha), Leonardo Bertagnolli (Lampre) ** Danilo di Luca (Katusha), Thomas Dekker, Oscar Gatto (Farnese) *Thomas De Gendt, Francesco Masciarelli (Astana), Marco Frapporti (Colnago)
Our goal
We aim for a Top 3-place, but too be honest, we want the win, with Dekker and Kelderman in this good shape.
As we don't feel like chasing a BOTD today, we try to be in it. After some unseccusful attempts by Thomas De Gendt, our young rider Marc Lootens succeeds in getting in the BOTD. Together with riders as Metlushenko (ISD) and Pelánek (Farnese) he rides a few minutes before the peloton.
After the long climb in the middle of the race, some riders bring fresh blood in the BOTD. Marco Frapporti (Colnago), Giuseppe Palumbo (Nespresso), Leonardo Bertagnolli & Emanuele Sella (Lampre) join the BOTD and set a higher pace. Because of that, Lootens has to let them go in one of the many short steep climbs. 20 kilometres before the finish, the leaders have a gap of 3'16 to the peloton.
When the road is ascending again, Leonardo Bertagnolli (Lampre) attacks out of the leading group. 17 kilometres before the finish, he has a gap of 28 seconds to a group of 4 (Sella, Frapporti, Palumbo and Christian Murro (Farnese)) and 3'20 to the peloton.
5 kilometres to go and Bertagnolli is still in the lead. The group of 4 follows at '36, and the peloton and 1'27. Thomas Dekker has the best legs today, so Wilco Kelderman tries everything he has got left to bring his teammate to the leader.
When Kelderman has no more energy left, Thomas Dekker attacks. He starts his attack with 2 kilometres to go and no other rider in the chasing peloton can follow him. But with 1km to go, he is still '39 behind Bertagnolli. A win looks to be impossible.
And it is. Leandro Bertagnolli takes the win, but is too tired to celebrate. It's his first win of the year (and no wins last year). Dekker finishes in 3rd place, just behind Giuseppe Palumbo.

Today's winner
Word from the DS
We totally mistimed this one.... Although Katusha helped us, the breakaway, and especially Bertagnolli, was too strong. We are happy with another Top 3, but really want that win!
One stage win (Dekker in the Oman-TT) and 3 2nd place and 1 3rd place, not a bad result in February.

One win, so not a big party this month. But because of the 4 podium spots and the many races in the rain, you'll get one umbrella: Edited by dienblad on 27-11-2011 00:10
March preview
March is the month of Paris - Nice and the Tirreno Adriatico. In both UCI World Tour stage races, we'll aim for stage wins and GC Top 3's. Thomas De Gendt will start in France, and Thomas Dekker & Wilco Kelderman in Italy. After that, we'll go for a Top 5 (or 10) in Milan San Remo. The last few days of March are for the cobblers, with Dwars Door Vlaanderen, the E3-prijs and Gent-Wevelgem. Niki Terpstra and Martijn Maaskant will aim for the podium there.
