Well, I've just returned from my holiday in France, where I've visited the first 3 stages. And really, it was GREAT! Ok, we've had to wait 5-6 houres the first 2 days but it was worth it.
In Plumelec I was just at the point where Valverde started his jump towards Kirchen, and then I could see them going all the ways through that final corner. There really where tons of people and we really shouted those riders up Even for the last 4 riders everybody was shouting like mad men.
In St. Brieuc for the 2nd stage I really had a perfect spot. Just in the last corner, where I could see them coming down from about 400m, in the corner and going up toward the line. Again is was really great seeing Cancellara being caugth just in front of you.
Then for the 3rd stage we went to the start in St Malo, where I managed a good spot close to the podium where all riders would come to sign the startlist. After signing they would all come to the startline just in front of me, where I managed to get 10 autographs of F. Schleck, Moreau and some others. There where two local French riders rigth in front of me (Gerard and Moinard) of which I didnt care about, but the local French public was really going wild for them
When the riders started, we got to the car asap, hitting the motorway before anyone else(even before some team busses, who got a road of their own out of the center of the city) and we races to becherel where the 2nd intermediate sprint was. We where in time for the riders, but unfortunatly it was sooo crowded we couldnt even get closer then 900m from the sprint. But we saw the pack again, lead by Valverde's men so it was ok |

Wow, I could never have predicted that stage in a million years. My two favourite non-British riders now separated in the GC by just 1 second - although I would very much prefer it to be Schleck in Yellow.
Cunego's flop was expected - but I had thought Valverde would have down better. Menchov was also surprisingly not as good, although he did stay with Evans - and for the Aussie, maybe he didnt attack (since he couldnt) but at least he was chasing and not wheel-sucking.
No idea if this has been brought up, but has isso taken back his Kohl overrated statements yet? The Austrian is really beginning to shine now.
Im very pleased that Frank Schleck did so well though, just 1 damn second. I still think Evans has a better chance than Schleck of winning the race, so I would have preferred to see Schleck in the jersey for a bit.

Just watched it, and great work by Voigt, and pretty well followed by Vandevelde, but a great ride from Schleck plus the two Saunier riders.
And just 1 second, Schleck couldn't believe it

Missed a lot pcm some thoughts about today and about the stars of today
Was a great stage nervous from the start ...i saw this happening attack very early the whole peleton was nervous no boss to control the pack no team to relay hard until the last 3-4 km ....it was CSC but on the flat and Tourmalet on Hautacam they were dead.
Thoughts about riders
Piepoli showed again he is the best climber in the pack a pure climber
Cobo Acebo a big surprise for me i know him for good hilly stage races PaisVasco...but not mountain stage a question mark about him he popped up just like that ...Magic he is spanish
Frank he was between the 2 SDV he was TIRED when the stage ended Cobo after he just exploded when he attacked he did a incredible relay ....Frank if he had sprinted more early now he would had yellow jersey
Cadel everybody saw when he cannot suck the wheel he is a normal climber with soft spots i bet he will not win or be in the front on Alpe D'huez he will loose there at lest 30 seconds he will need to do the dirty work again
Menchov he was so fresh when Hautacam started but he didnt bother to counter the attacks waited for Evans.
Kohl incredible he was at Rabo Conti that means something they had a rasmussen guy last year
Efimkim 7 th in Vuelta i think he will be in top 10 at paris
Sastre didn't bother to relay he is still waiting the ALPS
Ricco same as Sastre but he was tired
Goubert 14 th july good results
Duenas nevado the same
Nibali liguigas Magic
Astarloza good result and his a liutenant ...Zubeldia is crap and Samu so he could take a top 10 if he stays like that ...
Valverde Kreuziger Cunego Pereiro bye bye TdF they can retire .
Last ...Kim Kirchen i was dissapointed when they didnt put Rogers to be at least helper with his form on the mountains Sioutsou is too unexperienced ...and Hansen is invisible Rogers would had been a great helper for Kirchen and he would have lost not that much but a gutsy and good rider for him I am waiting to see him at Alpe D'huez he is not the leader anymore he will atack like last year to win a stage in the Alps .....i would like Alp D'huez

Rogers is still recovering from mononucleosis (kissing-disease), it would have been way to risky to put him on the team... |

Also, I swear, all my picks for the jersey's besides yellow which I didn't pick (they are in the next monthly), are looking great, Freire for Green, Di Gregorio for Polka Dots, and Andy Schleck for White, this is absolutely ridiculous |

“I am within a minute. Anything could happen. We want keep it close going into the final time trial,” Vande Velde said. “I know I am going to kill that final TT, that’s my biggest goal.”

now astarloza has to be euskatels main man for sure! cant see they wasting time on sanchez after astarloza was allowed to go with the big ones like that. and if ricco hadnt sprint i guess evans would have been 1 sec behind schleck and not in the yellow as i think he would prefer cocky (im sure he didnt know tho) move by ricco but i like ;D how do you think kirchen would have been with both rogers and gerdeman here? |

I agree. Slipstream giving Vande Velde the opprotunity to race as a protected rider really was a huge move because look at VDV now.

Its great to see Vandevelde do well particularly on the day that I read the latest Procycling magazine (came in the post today) and Tom Danielson's rather bitter column:
"I'm not angry with any individual, but shocked that my team decided not to pick me for the nine-man Tour de France squad."
"If you look at our team for the tour, it's a bit strange. There's no one there who you could really consider a GC guy"

Calling this situation in Paris now:
Yellow jersey: Evans (as ive been saying the whole time...)
Green jersey: Hushovd (Freire will burn himself out eventually)
KoM: A french guy
White jersey: Ricco
Teams classification: Saunier Duval (no seriously)
