Difficult to say who is going to win the Velo d’Or. I hope its Hushovd

PCM rulezz: Hint - it's in the spoiler (as I just saw Ian said)
Ian: He really did perform on a much higher level than anyone (myself included) would have expected!
sutty: Yeah, not much tension about who would win that price
Daggen: Hoping to sign him next season, but for now Astana won't let him go

Season preview – World Tour
With the season coming to a start we’ll just give you a quick rundown of the World Tour Teams 2014. Starting with the WT-winners of 2013 and going down the ranking.
Stats of the top-22 riders can be seen in the spoilers
RadioShack – Nissan
With both Boonen and Cancellara the team should be a major factor in the cobbled classics, though they won’t have much support. All in all a lot of winners here and in spite of losing Andy Schleck this is a team capable of winning pretty much every race on the calendar.
Liquigas – Cannondale
After losing among others Peter Sagan this is now a team highly focused on stage races with Nibali being a major favourite for especially the Giro.
Team Gazprom (former Katusha)
Failing to extend the contract of JoaquÃm RodrÃguez the Russian team is going to have a tough year ahead of them. This season is all about survival as it overall is one of the weakest rosters on the World Tour.
Rabobank Cycling Team
The Dutch talent is starting to bloom with Mollema and Kruijswijk. In spite of losing last years star Tom Boonen this is a highly competitive site with Kittels comeback and the signings of Evans and Boom.
Team Saxo – Tinkoff
The team has lost the best Danes, but have compensated by signing some strong domestiques and resigning with Contador. At the same time they have continued to lay more emphasis on the Russian aspect of the team. Not much of a cobbles team though…
Team Vodafone (former Sky)
Three of the best sprinters in the world on the same team is gonna win the British site a lot of stages. In spite of a lot of strong climbers the team is clearly lacking in terms of a proper GT-captain.
Euskaltel – Euskadi
Probably the strongest climbing team in the peloton. They can’t do much else than that though…
With the new signings and the development of their talents this team is now much more competitive on climbs and hills compared to last season. Last year was surprisingly good for the team and in spite of Hushovds aging this team should be able to match that season.
Lotto Belisol Team
Looks like it’s pretty much up to three riders to get the points on this team. They will be an important factor in sprints and on the hills but with no real climbers it could turn into a struggle if one or more of the captains fail to meet their targets.
Omega Pharma – QuickStep
A real classics team, though Gilbert is the only top-shelf rider left on the team. The World Champion needs to show a lot more than he did last season if the Belgian site are to remain on the World Tour.
Team ISD – Ferrari (former Lampre – ISD)
Scarponi rarely has a really bad season. That combined with the signing of Ben Swift and the emergence of Diego Ulissi as a Top class rider last season this is a team you have to consider a contender in most races. They may have lost Cunego, but the replacements should be ready to take over.
Movistar Team
All eyes are on Columbian supertalent Nairo Quintana this year after Valverde has left the team. It’s a make or break season for them.
BMC Racing Team
It’s up to the old guys here. After losing two of the teams most important riders last season to Rabobank and failing to sign any real replacements the Swiss-based team is going to have a tough season.
Astana Pro Team
A good mix of nationalities here. Van den Broeck and Gasparotto will make sure to get some points, but the team seems to be lacking a real high-scorer. Still enough riders on the next level to be able to get some decent results and secure survival. Kessiakoff gets special mention as the dark horse of the team.
Garmin – Sharp
For a long time it looked like the American team would be focusing on sprinters and second-grade climbers. But the last minute signing of RodrÃguez should make the team less in danger of relegation compared to last season.
Farnese Vini – Selle Italia
After a very strong 2013 the Italian team was promoted to the World Tour. With the signings of Horner and Cunego they might even have a chance of staying up.
Orica – GreenEdge
Looks to be another hard season for the Australian team. They have a lot of hope for Andy Schleck, but he doesn’t have much support. Maybe a good thing after a season where he often ended up fighting against team mates?
Vacansoleil – DCM Pro Cycling Team
A strong 2013 resulted in promotion for Vacansoleil. Unfortunately it also resulted in better offers for most of their captains. They have brought in Spanish veteran Valverde but a lot of riders need to take it to a new level if the team is to survive on the World Tour.

Well, I'll take the blame for Schleck/RodrÃguez/Valverde But yeah, especially Boonen to RadioShack stands out for me...
Decided top place the four unemployed superstars at the four WT-teams with the fewest WT-points last season.

Season Preview – Nordic Continental teams
Christina Watches – Onfone
The Danish team that finished 7th in last years continental ranking has managed to keep most of its captains while strengthening the roster further with the signing of Rory Sutherland. A solid mix of foreign captains on a Danish base.
Team Øster Hus – Ridley
In spite of having one of the biggest Norwegian talents in Markarskard the Norwegian site have gone for a bunch of foreign captain leaving little space for the teams Norwegians to ride their own chance.
Glud & Marstrand – LRØ
A lot of domestic talent on this team. Should have good chances in the small races.
Joker Merida
Another Norwegian team leaving only space as dometiques for the Norwegian riders, but a team with a lot of interesting names nonetheless.
Blue Water Cycling
A team clearly focusing on talent development with a few foreign captains and a large base of Danish talent with TT’ers Lasse Norman Hansen and Rasmus Quaade drawing special attention.
IKEA Cykling
Realizing that the Swedes on the team wasn’t up for the task last season new main sponsor IKEA have signed a group of decent foreigners to promote the company abroad and make sure the team will be able to get noticed in other races than the Swedish Nationals.
Team Concordia Forsikring – Himmerland
Clearly one of the smaller teams with a lot of decent riders but few real winners. Rubiano will have trouble finding the mountains he need, but Aistrup should have good chances to do well in Jylland Rundt, which has two cobbled stages.
Jardar Sykling
The only team really focusing on Norwegian riders. It might be a gamble but there’s some decent talent to be found here.
Volvo - STARK have announced that their jersey has been made but is currently in Australia along with its designer. The jersey will be made public at the start of Tour Down Under.

Hi everyone. I know a lot of you are exited about seeing the new jersey so I'm sending this quick update from the car behind the riders.
Thanks to the race organizers for taking the pics right after opening the race.
I have to say I'm really happy about the result. Our Australian friend Jakstar22 have really outdone himself with this one!

Tour Down Under
Finally time for the first raceday in our new jersey, and I can see that several of the other teams have updated their jerseys as well.
We’ve had a great training camp and will be ready to get as much as possible from this race. Usually the big shots aren’t quite in form yet, which will be a huge help for us…
And by the way: Looks like Joker’s strategy with more foreigners worked as Simon Clarke got them a spot in Tour Down Under. That was unexpected to say the least…
Stage 1: Geeps Cross – Clare
Looks like a certain sprinter stage.
Bak goes in the break, but no one else wants to work so when Bak stops leading the break dissolves completely.
Every other break gets the same fate.
You know the drill by now: When our riders spot a mountain sprint on the first stage we go for it – and today is no exception! Jeppe Hartvig Nielsen will be wearing the mountain jersey tomorrow.
RadioShack seem eager to prove to Boonen that he wasn’t mistaking when signing the contract and Liquigas wants to demonstrate that they don’t need Sagan to win sprints.
Bak does great keeping Hushovd in position for the sprint.
Thor grabs the wheel of home favourite Michael Matthews.
With 500 m to go Thor has taken the lead.
Coming like a rocket from behind Boonen takes it on the line.
Are we in for another Hushovd vs Boonen spring?

Stage 2: Lobethal – Stirling
This is one of two stages expected to have a major influence on the GC. We will be going for the win as we have a lot of strong hilly riders in great form.
Bak covered the first break but like yesterday he had no help to fight off the chasing peloton.
Again today Jeppe attack on the only categorized climb and wins it.
No one wanted to sprint for the second intermediate so I told Thor to go to the front and pick up the points to put him in the lead of that competition. Hell if no one else want the jersey we don't mind taking it...
Right after the sprint Sieberg goes on the attack and builds a lead of more than a minute – the biggest lead for a break in TDU this far…
The German slowly expands his lead to two and a half minute – and then I told Daniel Kreutzfeldt to see if he could get away as well. The mission succeeds, but the peloton is getting close.
20 km to go and Bak is in front one minute ahead of the peloton with Flecha and Ghyselinck in between.
3,3 km and Bak is still alone ahead with a small group 16 seconds behind and a further 14 seconds to the peloton.
Behind especially Pozzatto is very active, but all Falcons except Jens Erik is riding like in shadow staying near the front for the final sprint.
When the sprint starts all the riders who have been part of the attacking wave are in front of the main peloton.
What a day for Volvo – STARK!

It was obvious that no one would be able to get away from the peloton early and with Lars alone in front we really didn't have any other choice than playing it cool.
We never expected to be this dominant in the finish though!

I have to say that I'm extremely surprised and disappointed that the other teams have come so unprepared for this race!
After all it is the first World Tour race of the season and the last race in warm weather we'll be riding for a good few months.
When that is said I'm extremely proud of the boys. I don't expect us to be this dominant after stage four, but I'd say it's quite obvious by now who's the team to beat in this race...
