That was a close finish. I really hoped Scarponi would take it, but a nice victory for De Clercq.
Contador didn't look good at all in the sprint. He couldn't stay on Kreuziger's wheel in the sprint, so Purito RodrÃguez had to take that gap instead. Even Le Mevel sprinted better than Contador (Yes, I know that Le Mevel is in great shape). I hope to see Contador continuing to struggle like this.

Nice fact : last two winners up Montevergine won the giro afterwards (Cunego 2004 and Di Luca 2007)

Yeah, you have remember Contador can't sprint at all. This type of finish was good for the power climbers as it looked. But yes, could be interesting if he is really struggling!!!!! |

Nordhaug isnt going for GC though, he only wants a stage and then help Lofkvist as much as possbile.
Big looser is Duarte imo. 15 minutes down. After yesterday I thought he could acutually win here or get podium. Anyone know what happend ? Was it crash or mechanical ? Or just tired after yesterday.
Also Machado lost 33 seconds today. Doesn't bode very well for him.

Also, Weening did better than I expected. Thought he would lose the jersey even if finishing between 25-30th.
But he finished 19th good on him. 2 more days of pink until Etna...
Contador doesn't have a good sprint appearently. He had to let the gap. But I don't think it means anything with the steep mountains next week giving another image.
Kreuziger looks better than last 2 years. The move to Astana did him good. But still have to see what he does on steep mountains. He was good on Morzine (TDF 2010) as well and then went worse |
