Stage 16
The first stage after the second rest day was a milder climbing one. Bosvelt joined the break which was caught before the final climb. The pack split up in the opening kilometers of the climb as we hit the front to pick up the pace. I attacked 2 km from the summit and got away. A group of six riders chased me down the descent , but I had built up more than a minutes lead before hitting the flat. I held on comfortably, gaining more than a minute on the chasers and even more on race leader Yates. I moved up to 6th in the GC.
Stage 17
Bosvelt joined the break again. The pack was down to just 55 riders at the summit of the second climb. Formolo and Vervaeke attacked a long way out on the third climb, just as the break was caught. This followed a chain reaction among the favourites but all except Formolo were caught 10 km from the summit. I was a part of a ten rider group which got away behind Formolo. Ibanze was the big name missing from this group. I attacked 4 km from the summit, dropping everyone except Quintana. Traino and Yates managed to get back but Yates was dropped again on the descent. I put the hammer down again, dropping Quintana and Traino, and chasing after Formolo. I couldn't catch him, but finished 2nd on the stage, and climbed two positions, to be 4th in the GC. I was also 4th in the KOM standings.
Stage 18
The ITT was to my liking and I rode a good stage, finishing 7th, 13 seconds behind Quintana. I remained 4th in the GC.

Wow, really great comeback so far after a tough start to the race, really nice stage win in the hills! Now to attack the podium, what a turnaround that would be

@Jandal: That's the target for now, getting onto the podium. Week 3 has been good so far, but two big mountain stages remain. Let's see how it goes there.
@Ripley: Let's see if I can separate myself from the rest at the front of the rest

Stage 19
We would be going up the legendary Alpe d'Huez for the conclusion of this stage. It is still a big deal!
New joined the break for us. Janot attacked 3 km from the top of the second climb. The peloton was down to only 28 at the top. Quintana attacked 11 km from the finish. Ten more riders got away, with New the only rider left from the break up ahead. I rode at my own pace, slowly catching and passing most of the attackers. Only Ibanez and Quintana finished over a minute ahead. I lost a few seconds to Jungels and Oomen at the finish, ending up in 5th place on the day. I held on to 4th in the GC but the gap to Quintana in 3rd, increased to over 2 minutes.
Stage 20
After tackling the Alpe d'Huez, it was now time to conquer the massive 246 km long penultimate stage.
Mohoric joined the break for us. The peloton was already down to just 36 at the top of the second climb. Duteil attacked on the third climb and got away. The peloton was further reduced in size on the third climb. I had two teammates left. The break was caught on the descent. I was dropped from the lead group of 12 on the fourth climb. New led the chase from the second group, trying to close the gap on my behalf. We caught a couple of the attackers, but the leaders were already 3 minutes ahead, with 6 kilometres remaining.
I finished the stage in 11th, losing nearly 6 minutes to stage winner Ibanez. I lost two positions in the GC, to fall to 6th. This was one mountain too many for my legs in this year's race.
Stage 21 was the usual, ceremonial, ride into Paris. Van Poppel finished 6th on the day. I was safe in the pack to finish this year's Tour in 6th place. I also finished 10th in the Points and 6th in the KOM standings.

It's been a while since Abhishek's been on the podium. Looks like needs easier mountains and more TT. But the Tour isn't everything.

After a couple of weeks off following the Tour, I was back riding again, on the road to my preparation for the Vuelta. Poland always has routes to my liking and I wanted to wash away the disappointment of the Tour with a good result here.
Stage 1 had four medium difficulty hills but they were not raced hard enough and it ended it a reduced bunch sprint. Grosu won for us. I finished 9th in the sprint.
Stage 2 was flat and I stayed in the pack. Vanbilsen achieved our best result of 5th.
Stage 3 was more of the same. None of our sprinters managed a good result in the hard finish.
Stage 4 was dejavu central. Tietama, this time, was our best finisher, again in 5th.
Stage 5
I was top favourite for this stage. The break were caught early, with 35 kilometres still to go. The peloton was down to 27 on top of the fifth climb. On top of the final climb, I got away along with three others - Arcega, Dunbar and teammate Pastor. I attacked again with 3 km remaining. The others were caught and now a 21 rider group was chasing me. I didn't look back and clinched the win and the GC lead.
Stage 6
The Queen stage would be a difficult challenge with the climbs coming thick and fast from start to finish. The break would be caught late and then the attacked followed. Meintjes and Pastor got away on the last climb, and I chased. I was caught by Bragues. I would catch Meintjes and Pastor with 2 km to go but didn't have the legs to go with again when they attacked a kilometer later. I finished 3rd on the stage, losing 11 seconds. I fell to 3rd in the GC as well. Pastor won and took the lead in the GC.
Stage 7, an almost pan flat stage, saw the break reaching a 10 minute gap with 50 km to go. There were a couple of riders in the break who were about 12 minutes down on Pastor's (and my own) time. I went to the front and worked for the final quarter of the race to lessen the pack's deficit. I was working in the pack for someone else after a very long time. The break did survive but their lead was halved by the finish. Pastor won the race and I finished 3rd in the GC.

Looking to leave the disappointment of the Tour behind, and having gained much needed confidence in Poland, I reached the Vuelta with the goal of repeating last season's victory. However, while the team were happy for me to lead the GC effort, the team goal was to win the Points jersey with Danny Van Poppel. Our startlist reflected the same, with seven riders either a part of Van Poppel's sprint train or meant to chase down breaks on the flat roads. The only other rider in the startlist was Paul Bosvelt, who is a good puncher but only an average climber on the high mountains. This meant I had to be ready to be on my own on most of the high mountains, which should be an interesting challenge.
Stage 1 was a Prologue. I finished in 21st, 31 seconds down on the best time.
Stage 2 was flat. All hands on deck for Van Poppel saw him finish 5th. I was safe in the pack.
More of the same on Stage 3, but this time our fast men failed to get a notable result.
I hit the front with Kerkhof pacing me with 10 km to go. Four riders got a gap after this, but Kerkhof helped close the gap before dropping off. They got away again and Bosvelt joined me in chasing them. We caught all the attackers, except Ania, who went on to win the stage. I finished 4th and Bosvelt finished 6th. I moved up to 2nd in the GC, with Bosvelt in 7th.
Stage 5 was another flat one. I finished in the pack.

Stage 6
Van der Poel and Alaphilippe attacked at the start of the last climb. Chased them and got a gap to the pack with Adam Yates. Yates dropped me eventually, and I was caught by Wellens, Moser and a few others. I finished 8th on the stage and lost some time to van der Poel, who became the new GC leader. I fell a spot to 3rd in the GC.
Stage 7 was mostly flat and I finished in the pack. Van Poppel was 7th.
Stage 8
I was among the favourites for this stage. i didn't particularly live up to that billing but I gained time to all GC competitors, barring Wellens, who became the new GC leader. I was 2nd after this stage, trailing by 28 seconds.
Stage 9 was a favourable finish one for me but I was in an awful position at the start of the shory climb to the finish. Bosvelt finished 3rd for us.
Stage 10 was flat again. It was an uneventful stage for us.
Stage 11 was more flat roads. Van Poppel finished 2nd, his best result of the race so far.

I finished the flat Stage 12 safe in the pack. Van Poppel finished 10th.
Stage 13
The team chased the big break who built up a big lead all through the stage. With 10 km to go, I had only Bosvelt left in support. Seven riders got away from the pack but I chased and caught up to them with 8 km to go. Zakarin attacked again a kilometer later. I followed suit another kilometer later. Four riders would catch up to me with 4 km left. We would catch Zakarin 2 km before the finish. I attacked again soon after a got a gap of 40 seconds at the line. I moved into the GC lead for the first time in the race.
Stage 14 and Stage 15 were more flat roads and I stayed out of the limelight, except for wearing the leader's jersey.
Stage 16, consisting of seven short, steep hills looked like it could produce some fireworks, but with the break getting a big advantage, none of the GC contenders, including myself were in an mood and we settled on a stalemate.
Stage 17
Yates attacked at the start of the HC climb. The team chased in earnest with me right in their midst and well protected. The peloton was down to 31 riders, and Yates had extended his lead to more than 3 minutes at the summit of the climb. I had no teammates left on the descent and decided to attack with 5 km remaining. Zakarin joined me and we pulled Yates' advantage down to less than a minute at the line. I finished 4th behind Yates, Zakarin and a surviving breakaway rider, losing 49 second to the former. My GC lead increased to more than 3 minutes as Wellens fell away.
