Purito was a major disappointment in my eyes. Didn't do any work for Valverde or whoever their contemplated captain was, and still finished behind Contador, who attacked hard several times and then paced the group a lot on the final lap.

265 km and the race is decided on 200-300 metres... Amusing as always.
BTW - fantastic lead out by Nibali |

So close with EBH. Who wants to take back their comments now, Alakagom, isso, etc.?
Take what back? That it would be a career first if he did it? Guess what, it's the career first time he did it.
You said it was too long and too hard, neither were the case. |

No, I said it was longer and more difficult than Plouay. I made absolutely zero judgements on whether Hagen could get a result.

You might want to add a certain John Degenkolb, 4th place, currently riding for (Pro)Continental team Argos

It sure looked fun when Talansky and Stannard was in a breakaway together. I mean the size difference congrats to Gilbert. He deserves a banana |

Big Phil deserved this one, finally the World Championship has come. And a notable 11th place for Rui Costa, whom I think, beats Acácio da Silva's result as best Portuguese placing in a World Championship! |

Brillant Gilbert !!! After a avg season nice to finally see him win the world championship.Good to see Degenkolb up there.A curious query - If there been a Major tour Winner who won World Championship in the same year.
Eddy and Stephen Roche have even won the Giro+Tour+Worlds in one season, aka The Triple Crown.
Off the top of my head, I can't come up with others with a Tour+Worlds, but I guess there are more.
Speicher, Bobet and LeMond all won the Tour and the Worlds in the same year. Hinault, Coppi and Baldini won the Giro and the Worlds. So yeah, there has been quite a few riders who has pulled it off.
But back then the World's were held on the third Sunday of August, which was three weeks after the end of the Tour de France.
Hard, but definitely not impossible for riders to keep their form between both.
Today it seems more complicated, with 8 weeks between Paris and the Worlds. |

In fact, the plan was for Valverde to help Freire during the last lap. Now Valverde is saying, "damn, I could have won if I hadn´t waited for Freire", and Freire is saying "Damn Valverde, he didn´t help me as planned. I was left on my own". Not that it would have made much difference either way imo

Too many cooks spoil the soup. Five leaders and two wild cards at the Spanish is never going to work, unless one of them is really superior to everyone (team mates and opponents - which is not case, whatsoever, when you have that many leaders). |

Uran brings an Olympic silver medal and Henao a 9th place from the Road WC, not bad for us this year.
