And Waghlon, dont forget that the Team Pursuit is ridden in a velodrome on the track Results on the road mean nothing.
Then why is it that the australian, the british and the danish trackriders, have been teach that road training is very important by Heiko Salzwedel, which have given the respective nations massive results on the track? Road results also shows that are where they should be, and by your "theory" Cavs results in the TdF has nothing to say when it comes for him to perform on the track.

Riding on the road is good for building up endurance in riders and their fitness levels, but all the results do, if good, is raise the confidence levels. Nothing else. So what if Alex Rasmussen and Mark Cavendish both won bunch sprints in either Qinghai or the Tour de France. The Team Pursuit event is completely different to a road race, as is the Madison in which Cavendish will ride.
The best preperation for track cycling, is quite simply, riding on the track. Putting in hours of training and practise. Thats what the British team have been doing. First at Manchester, then at Newport and now in Beijing alongside the other competing nations.

Im going to have to Burst your bubble a bit SN, Road and track normally have a very good connection together and both of them help each other.
For example i will use Cavendish. First of all the Acceleration. Cavendish himself says that the final kick that he gets in the final 200 m. The training for 6 days and Track endurance has given him that. The Road has given him the endurance to make it through an entire stage. Track riding has also given him a good ability to power round short TT/prolouge course. The same with Wiggins, but wiggins has also used his training with the Team pursuit to get a brillian riding style. Steve Cummings today looks very very smooth on the bike that is definatly down to the work he has put on track Riding the pursuit bike, low profile frame etc. I hope that makes sense because when it comes to long explainations i tend to lose myself
Just ask if you need more |

Youre basically saying that being good on the track helps to be good on the road. Sorry to 'burst your bubble' Smoothie but thats not something I ever disputed or even touched upon.

No im not saying that its just a misunderstanding of what i wrote. track and road can help a rider out in different aspects not in just fitness. Riding style, strength development. Usually the only pure track riders are the sprinters. Endurance will ride the road, the normally the rule is Road Sprinter/Flat = Good track rider. Make sense? |

Well the whole point was that the Danes think their team pursuit riders have a huge advantage over the Brits because their team got some decent results in the Tour of Qinghai Lake, while all of the British Track Team, bar Cavendish, were training on the track during that period.

Its not just Manchester at all. Since Bradley Wiggins returned to the Team Pursuit team at the Manchester World Cup in 2007, Britain have won the team pursuit in every World Cup and World Championship (Except LA 2008, which they did not enter). They have the World Record time and can consistently go under 4 minutes.

Steven Burke (And not Thomas or Cavendish) will apparantely take Britain's 2nd Individual Pursuit spot in the Olympics.
https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/..._Debut.asp
It has been said that as the times for the Team Pursuit go down and the speeds become faster, endurance riders like Steven, and sprinters even, will be needed to handle that speed of the event. There is even a theory that the increase in speed of the Team Pursuit over the years since Athens was the reason why Steve Cummings for example, a Silver medallist in Athens, was unable to make the team for 2008.
But Steven Burke is also a handy Pursuiter as his bronze medal in the Individual Pursuit in Cottbus in 2007 showed. Now, he has his chance at riding that event at the Olympics where there is no pressure or expectations. It will be interesting though to see what he can do in light of the new level he is at now after training with the senior squad for almost a year now. He may not medal but then when Geraint Thomas stepped up to do a trial pursuit in Manchester recently, the odds on him doing a 4.17 before hand were pretty long indeed.
The coaches have done such a great job with these riders who knows what they are capable of and I would not be surprised to see Steven surprise a few people in the Individual effort. When the GB team have gone out and done a flying Team Pursuit effort at 3.50 (six seconds under world record) pace, Steven is in there holding his own. He’s that good!

Burke's a very sensible choice. Geraint is in awesome form, turning out times faster than that which won Bradley the IP Worlds at Manchester, but if he did the IP then he would be tired for the team pursuit. And Cav is no individual pursuiter really.
So I like the choice of Burke

Bradley Wiggins being interviewed on BBC "One gold would be disappointing, two would be satisfying" He is only gonna be extremely happy if he gets 3 Golds

Who's ready for track cycling?
My take on the Brits chances
Points race: nothing
Sprint: very least, silver (gold in womens)
Individual Pursuit: Gold (mens and womens)
Team Pursuit: Gold
Team Sprint: Silver
Keirin: Gold
Madison: Cav isn't feeling at his best, but Wiggins is awesome, so I say silver in this (they are awesome at madison, but Cav is still quite tired so it will be tight I think - definately a must watch, I watched them at the Worlds and it was fantastic)
and here's a quote from Jamie Staff:
"We did though spot Theo Bos (Holland) timing Chris's efforts the other day, which is good to see. I think we've cracked him already! Chris has done PB after PB and he hasn't even put the new suit on yet, so watch out!"
Sneaky Bos
I can't wait i love track cycling

At last it arrives! Youll be glad to here Addy that Jason Kenny will replace Ross Edgar in the team sprint lineup. Apparantely Kenny has improved in leaps and bounds recently.

Why didn't I hear this news
I haven't seen it on the BC website Thank god I've always seen Edgar as a bit of a weak-link, his sprint is focussed on acceleration and then isn't great for team sprint especially when he isn't leading out. I hope Kenny will step up to the plate
Staff is also in sublime form; Staff, Hoy, Kenny. The French will certainly get a run for their money (I still think the French should win this but Brits should get silver)
