To paraphrase Shonak in your signature Ringo: Ringo is exactly right
I have lost all the respect for Serena, if i hate something, it is taking words "sexist" and "racist" and whatever as helping hand when you have done something wrong and you hope that using this words will help you to turn public against someone who was just doing his job. Disgraceful Serena and disgraceful WTA by all means.
I think there is little doubt that Serena has suffered sexism and racism in her career as a whole. But to use that as an excuse for her behaviour is disgusting and completely belittles everything she claims to fight for. She has just lost all credibility for the two causes. How can either she or the WTA expect to have any credibility in their fight for "equality" in tennis following outburst like this?
Her coach has admitted coaching her. She was correctly punished.
She broke her racket. She was correctly punished.
She verbally abused the umpire. She was correctly punished.
To claim the umpire did it because he is sexist and to call him a thief and a liar is bordering on slander.
"Ringo is exactly right", Shonak - 8 September 2016
I must say, to call out the umpire's attitude as an act of sexism is a blatant error towards the reduction of sexism in our society, especially coming from a woman that advocates for that goal.
She cannot use sexism as an excuse for her mistakes without a plausible justification, and I can see it contradict the cause she, righteously, fights for. As much as there is plenty of sexism, there are as many people quickly using it as an excuse for any kind of deviant demeanour against women. And you have to seperate things and understand what is, in fact, sexism, and what is a tempering atittude, like Serena's. Maybe then sexism can be really weakened, and the true chauvinists found.
