It averages similar attendance records to the other major sports in the USA and it is run by probably the best commissioner of all the north american sports. The growth of the league in the past decade has been insane.
The Gold Cup final has 60k people in attendance at Soldier Field. The average attendance throughout the whole tournament was 36k with the entire tournament based in the USA and keep in mind most of the matches wouldn't have even included the USA.
The MLS is ranked 8th in terms of number of players at this world cup worldwide. That is fairly good.
While it isn't totally true the MLS was ranked as the 7th best Soccer league in the world. Its got to have some sort of success for that to happen even if the quality isnt necessarily as high as some european leagues.
Point taken, and whilst Admir made a blanket statement about the nature of all Americans a few hundred thousand true devoted MLS fans isn't enough to offset this occurance.
Its just from my own views, its as if the USA is the only country in the world that isn't allowed to have casual fans.
And for the record Im probably cheering for Ghana as I like more of the players.

And if we took a poll on this site, how many people do you think would vote that the first ever cycling race they ever watched was the Tour de France?
I don't see the relationship between the two sentences to be honest
The Tour is the most popular cycling event. Even non cycling fans will watch it. Its the most televised cycling event and its the most popular event for people to get into the sport of cycling.
The world cup is the most popular football/soccer event. Even non football/soccer fans will watch it. Its the most televised football/soccer event. Its the most popular event for people to get into the sport.
My point being, most people got into cycling by starting to watch the Tour, and it then they enjoy it and start really following the sport. The same can be said for the World Cup.
What exactly is wrong with supporting your own country anyway? I do not give a damn about Canada in many sports for example baseball. As a casual fan of a sport like Rugby which I dont normally follow but have an interest in, Im going to follow/support them in the more high profile events.
true point. not 100% sure on the non fans but I presume that because we have a different meaning of "non fans"

I think you're way too biased to comment here.

I'm obviously biased, which I've already stated. But you most definitely are not.
admirschleck wrote:I won't enter this discussion, as what you're saying is ridiculously funny.
Funny is reading someone's comment stating he won't enter the discussion as he says someone else is wrong.
admirschleck wrote:It was a CLEAR penalty and it was a CLEAR red card (yes, I watched highlights of the game now).
Another funny thing about your dogmatic perspective is that you fail to mention the clearest case of the whole match - Eder's penalty. Normally I would explain why I think this way, but for the purpose of this discussion I'm just going to state it is clear... sorry CLEAR
Just saw this now.
Why would I be biased? Mažić is a Serbian, but he also is one of the best European referees (otherwise, he wouldn't be where he is now). Deal with it. Also, do not blame me because Germany beat the shit out of your poor country, both strategically & physically. It's the reality, learn to deal with it.
I didn't say that you're wrong, but what you say is ridiculously funny. Which makes it even more wrong. And with "I won't enter this discussion", I meant that I won't bother myself writing arguments for hours, just to prove that I am right. But, it seems like I once again did that, so shame on me really.
Wait, so you are actually blaming a referee for Pepe headbutting (any contact in football after a foul, hand or any other indirect call is strongly forbidden) Muller and saying that it wasn't even a foul & that it was a bad call and not for a red card, but that, I have to agree, controversy possible penalty, that happened while Germany led by 3-0 and when it was clear that you lost this match is now, out of nowhere, so important? I agree Mažić could easily blow the whistle and make that a penalty, as it was really a tough decision - but he didn't decide to and that's what you have to deal with.
Better learn your babies Pepe & Ronaldo how to behave properly before you come up with awful arguments & usual referee blaming. Now, go to a corner and cry because Germany raped (would, even with that penalty and even without a red card for a Pepe) you.

Portugal and Spain are adjacent countries, Germany and The Netherlands are adjacent countries, the venue was the same, the score difference was the same.
USA out working Ghana for this win, clearly a less talented team with the ball but 1 moment of brilliance and 95 minutes of hard hard work brings them the win.
Man of the match is clearly the Swedish ref
