STAGE 6: Benedetto del Tronto - S.Giacomo 156 KM's
Stage Favourites:
***GautierRBA) **Pere(HLE) *Gesink(YTE)
The penultimate stage. The decider for the GC is here and now with the last chance for the GC to be decided. The stage ends on the Giacomo climb,11 kilometres 5.6%. However, a 18 kilometre climb averaging @ 3% also plays its part from 55 kilometres to go.
We have Felline as our leader with Kritskiy up there in GC to perhaps go on the attack.
I will start by saying the stage was won by Garcia for KLM, from the break. Only three riders survived, with the other four caught by the peloton on the final climb.
Now onto the GC battle, would Felline dethrone Roux, the GC has changed hands everyday so far!
On the penultimate climb the peloton is down to 14 riders with Jeannesson(FDJ) pushing on. Red jersey, Felline, is comfortable enough supported by Cziraki and Al Ghanim. Roux is also there but is struggling with the pace.
Kritskiy and Rojas really suffering on the day. The peloton nullify this move and reform as we hit the final climb.
Jeannesson again ups the pace........
ROUX IS DROPPED
Roux must be livid with his teammate as he completely goes bang! Felline is still looking good and fairly fresh as the climb is running out.
Preidler and Rolland attack out of the peloton. But neither are that dangerous....
Felline... finishes strongly for tenth on the stage... The big rivals..... don't take any time out of Felline.....
So, Felline moves into the GC lead. His form is outstaning. Roux, on paper, is much the better puncheur but did not have the legs today similar to Kritskiy who plummets down the order.
It don't get much better than this. With one stage left all Felline has to do is stay upright and the Tirreno title is his.

Great to see Sicard rule at Paris-Nice
And lets hope that Fabio can make it a double at Tirreno |

I can get you don't want to marry again! 1 wife is enough for a life time even though she is not home anymore
What a fantastic double in this early season: same team winning both Paris-Nice and Tirreno (fingers crossed Fabio will do it)! Has it ever happened before?
I got it now for your strategy: a Frenchman winning in France, and an Italian in Italy. It does make sense indeed

STAGE 7: Civitella del Tronto - Benedetto de Tronto 172 KM's
Stage Favourites:
***Kittel(EML) **Cavendish(HLE) *Guardini(YTE)
With 80 kilometres to go, the break far from dangerous, Al Ghanim takes a drink and Hugarian champ Cziraki leads us down the final climb of the day. It is pan flat to the finish, Felline is well protected.
It comes down to a sprint and Cavendish, once again, claims victory and will take the points jersey from Felline in the process. Felline finishes 8th so....
Felline wins the Tirreno. I really am running out of compliments for him. Bring on Milan - San Remo. A great team performance, great to see Rojas and Kritskiy and the rest sacrificing themselves for Felline.

@ Sutty - There's the double.
@ Duxili - It has little to with nationality bonus. Otherwise we would have had Al Zaid as the leader in Qatar. Thanks. |

There are two clear favourites for the 2020 edition of Milan San Remo, both having won the race multiple times before. An event which is bound to have you hanging on the edge of your seat, if your sat down that is!
Yes you could say this will be Felline vs Cavendish
Felline
Fabio has been our stand out rider in a team full of top quality riders he has performed well in all his races this season and has looked much more impressive than last season. With two victories at Milan San Remo he enters as the favourite.
Cavendish
It is a while since Cavendish won Milan San Remo but his form this season has been startling, surely still the quickest man in the world, the evidence more than half a dozen sprint victories. Silencing the critics.
There will be other contenders, but at the start all watching eyes will be on these two star names.
@ Sutty Can he do it at Milan San Remo again though!
@ duxili : ?!? No, but we will be giving Qatari's the leader role in races soon enough. |

RACE: Milano - San Remo 299 KM's
Race Favourites:
***Felline(QOS) **Cavendish(HLE) *VanMarcke(KLM)
Here we are the first 'monumental classic' of this season. All the big contenders are here apart from former world champ Sagan who crashed out while leading the Tirreno.
After a very aggressive start to the race a 13 man break forms including some quality GC riders: Jeannesson, Teklehaimanot, Stortoni and Pere are some of the quality riders involved.
Even the big name riders in this race are on domestique DUTY, Vanendert gets our water bottles with 120 kilometres to go. Van der Sande, Cabedo, Yildiz, Cziraki all worked hard on the front early on.
80 Km to go Le Manie.....
The peloton split, 75 - 75. Despite the efforts of FDJ and Katusha, a number of big names are dropped for good including: Cartillo: Vanendert: Nibali: Gesink.
With 75 kilometres to go LANDER attacks. The multiple classic winner is too dangerous to go up ahead, Maes joins him.
The peloton know this danger so all remaining domestiques from ExxonMobil, Herbalife and Qatar Optics are called to bring back this danger move. They bring them back with 50 kilometres to go...
45 Km to go
CAVENDISH attacks, Lander goes with him. The original break is down to just Jeannesson and Pere.
This move is WAY WAY too dangerous, despite being really on the limit Gallopin and Kritskiy help to bring the move back. The peloton decreasing all the time.
Kritskiy and Gallopin are spent, Felline has to go with the next move.
10 Km to........Le Cipressa
BOOM attacks, Belgian champ Salomein, Felline and Baugnies also attack as the last breakaway rider, Pere, is caught.
I say to myself ' That is the selection', it would take an immense effort to bring this quality group back.
Le Cipressa
Pere attacks again, Felline rides up the climb leading the others and catches Pere towards the top.
'30 behind a 10 man group remains of the peloton including Cavendish.
the gap holds between the Cipressa and the foot of the Poggio.
Poggio
We hit the Poggio and FELLINE attacks....
But he can't distance Boom, Baugnies and Salomein. At the top they are all together. There is a slow up in pace.
They hit the descent Felline ups the pace, taking plenty of risks.
Behind CAVENDISH FALLS! He took one too many risks on the Poggio descent and his small chance of regaining contact with the front group is gone.
Onto the flat, Salomein is the only rider chasing Felline @'10, who has committed himself. If the others contribute surely they will contest the win......
they don't cooperate. Felline takes the win. Felline wins his third Milan San Remo. Salomein was left to do all the chasing and as a result misses out on the podium, to a surprising Baugnies and the so often nearly man, Boom.
What a day. What a rider. He wins in different a style to last year after not managing to distance the select group on the Poggio, what a rider. WOOOO!

And he posts the stats above, 74HL 74SP 76ACC is just not enough to win.

@ Duxili - Thanks a lot, I guess you're right!
@ Krisa - I'm sorry but here no team is using that jersey (the one Sutty sent a link to), maybe you got mixed up with another story?
@ TMM - What - WHAT! No....Noooo. What are you on about?
The key stats, by a mile, for Milan San Remo are the : FLAT and STAMINA stats. Which explains why he was the only rider on our team who was anywhere near fresh with 35 kilometres to go.
Felline has the highest average in both. If the race was 100 kilometres shorter than I would agree with you.
Baugnies (who finished second) standout stats are :82 flat and 82 stamina.
Felline is very similar to how Cancellara is at the moment, except Cancellara is better at cobbles/ TT, whilst here Felline is better uphill and has a faster sprint.
Spoiler It says OP that we are on hard but for Felline's first Milan San Remo win we were on expert and he won after attacking on the Cipressa.
@ Sutty - Thanks for the help there.
@ MrUFO - Yeah, much closer than I expected.
