A hilly rated day, so one that we doubt will shake things up much. However, it was a bit strange that the peloton let the break go after the first prime, with both Mazzanti and Wegmann in it. Drujon was also present... for a little while...
More interestingly, as Drujon was getting dropped up front, so was the majority of the peloton, thanks to Levi Leipheimer's will.
And by the next switch back in the same direction, it was really under pressure.
And Sastre attacked at the top for some points, at least I presume it was for points. You can never be sure.
Either way, by the other side, the field was split big time. Igor Anton had lost ground, as had Danielson.
All good news for Levarlet who was still there. Shortly after that picture, Drujon was caught and helped him out for a while.
As we hit the next climb, it seemed everyone was under pressure, and the front group split behind Levarlet.
Menchov, to name one, was behind Levarlet!
By a km up the road, many had rejoined, but other's, closer to Levarlet in the GC, had been dropped.
They were going to lose minutes today!
And over the top of the penultimate climb, Rogers was dropped! Kirchen and Gerdemann both went back for him.
All three riders are above Levarlet, so if he can hold on over the next short climb, he'll gain a fair bit of time.
Another rider to be dropped - Van den Broeck!
Unfortunately, that didn't make much impact, as he's many minutes ahead.
As we hit the last 1.5 km of the final climb, Levarlet has had enough, he's right at his limit, and there's no way of pushing him harder.
He gets caught over the top by Roger's group.
Onto the finish, and Contador doesn't win for once!
Schleck takes those honours.
Levarlet finishes shortly behind them.
Another couple of big names to lose more time - Sastre and Valverde.
A great stage for Levarlet! He may have lost a bit more time on some of the guys, but there were many more suffering rather than him.

Today was meant to be Vaugrenard's breakaway stage, but again, the peloton doesn't like to let any of my "ok" guys away, but are happy to let guys like Breschel and Ignatiev away. Stupid.
Instead, Gaudin went in the break. He ended up just with Millar over the first climb.
Other guys would later join them (namely the two I mentioned above). And they just churned out the kilometres before Van Dijk attacked, (well there was a lot of attacking by everyone in the break for some unknown reason), came back to the back, and then dropped off. Taking Gaudin with him. Twat.
It, luckily, didn't matter, and the break was caught on the final climb of the day. Just over the top, no sprint trains had formed yet, so Drujon hopped onto Valverde's wheel.
That's with 2km to go. He, unfortunately, get's boxed in, and can't get around one of the guys in front of him. When he does, it's clear he's not going to be overtaking many guys. But he does take his first top 10 of the tour! Bennati wins.

In other good news, Morizot finally went up a level! Making him an even more useful helper for Levarlet in the 3 road mountain stages to come.

At the start of todays stage, Levarlet is in 24th position, and, ideally we'd like to move up some more into the top 20's.
Drujon, with his eyes on surviving todays stage, and getting some more points, goes on the attack early on.
He takes the first intermediate sprint, and, as the climb begins, he drops off the 5 man group he's in. Preferring to take things as his own pace. Surprisingly, at the same time, Efimkin, 18th overall, takes off out of the peloton. Not being chased down, he continues to catch up with the lead group, drop them, and proceed by himself to try and win the stage.
By the time the gap has increased enough to warrant chasing, it's become apparant that Levarlet is not on his best of days. A -3 is not what we wanted to see.
And as Discovery move to the front to chase down everyone, the entire pack is put under immense pressure.
Over the top, and going down, it's spread to breaking point, and it does just that. With Levarlet the wrong side of the break.
By the next climb, Levarlet is already a minute behind, but keeps putting the pressure on himself to try and close the gaps. Morizot is doing the same from behind to try and catch his leader back up.
Morizot does catch up, and Levarlet does catch some more contenders up too.
Morizot goes straight to the front, and pulls back a fair few more GC contenders, but the main guys are well away.
It's at this point that Danielson (22nd overall) goes out the back. Whilst Levarlet doesn't!
This will eventually not be quite as good, as it seems that Danielson is just taking things at his own pace. A rather clever move.
On the Penultimate climb (yes, we're not even there yet!), Dekker and Contador both attack each other right at the front.
Back with Levarlet, the groups are just splitting up as everyone blows, and Danielson catches back up a 2 minute gap!
And goes right past Levarlet.
Finally Levarlet overtakes Efimkin the early attacker, but only gets a minute up the road before he the descent, and finally bonking, 5km from home.
A rather crap stage, has to be said. Lets hope for some better ones in the next 3 days.

Another mountainous stage will be a struggle for all GC contenders today. Hopefully Levarlet can improve and bounce back from his disappointing performance yesterday.
After a few attacks were tried by all, it ended up being another GC contender the first to get away with serious intent. Popovych quickly carved out a sizeable gap for the day over anyone.
Being 6th overall meant little to him if he wanted to risk it today.
And as his gap peaked at 12 minutes, Discovery once again took to the front, forcing the peloton to spread out down the entire half a side of a mountain.
Levarlet was in there at the front, doing ok though, which was nice to see.
However, it became apparant over the top that many riders couldn't descend fast enough, and it split. With Levarlet again missing out on the front group, but settling down into the 2nd group.
As the 2nd group climbed steadily, it became blindingly obvious that Levarlet would again bonk, but it was a case of how soon, and where compared to everyone else.
Over the top of the penultimate climb, this was the situation.
Contador leading by two minutes.
Dekker and Schleck after him.
Kohl, Anton, Efimkin and Gerdemann following just behind.
Then a few more, like Kloden.
And then Levarlet, just coming into view, catching up dropped riders as they went.
However, the bonk did happen, just at the bottom of the final climb, but Levarlet was in good company with Karpets et al also crawling.
Van den Broeck, Danielson, and co, were about 7 minutes behind, so it was looking good for moving up in the GC!
And the finish. Every rider, apart from Evans it seemed, had blown.
Schleck was against Kloden in a "rush" to the line.
Who would win!?
Schleck!
And Levarlet finishes just 10 seconds off his group (Karpets et al)
Now to see the damage done to his GC!

So, we're back climbing up the GC. Maybe a top 23 is possible?! A mountain ITT and one more mountain stage is all that's left. In some bad news, Tronet didn't make the cut today. A pity as he could have featured on the Champs Elysee.

The penultimate hard day, today's ITT could prove useful, or ultimately disastorous for Levarlet's hopes to climb the GC a few more spots.
First up for Auber is Martinez, who, by the summit, beats all who've gone before him.
He's not the only Auber rider to manage this, as Vaugrenard even bests Cancellara.
As we get to Levarlet, though, the times are being smashed one after another, and so it's really pressure on to pull something out of the bag.
But Levarlet is keyed up for this, and manages to take 6th fastest at the first intermediate check.
As the rest of the Auber crew have shown, the team speeds up in the final section, and Levarlet is no different! Only one man can beat him who has gone before, and Valverde is not someone to be ashamed to lose to!
And as it stands, as the rest of the GC riders come in, Levarlet has done a pretty good ride. Exactly where we wanted him to be by now.

No climb in the GC today, but a narrowing of the gap to Danielson occured. Can Levarlet take back that time in the last mountain stage?
In some good news, it's only taken the entire race for Champion to go up to level 3. Brilliant.

Final hard stage, can Levarlet deliver the goods?! Well, the bookies seem to think he's an outside bet for the first time in the race! Don't underestimate the chap!
And as so often happens in this race, Efimkin and Popovych both escape (with Bonnaire).
They'd be caught up the first of the second part of the days climbs.
But before they are caught, the race splits over the top of a middle climb.
But today is different, Levarlet is still in there!
And the group wittles down from 30 riders to 20 as they begin the next climb. As they pass Efimkin, having already brought back Popo, Levarlet is already 2 minutes up on Van den Broeck and three on Danielson!
But as the climb goes on, to save the 4th red bar from filling up (yes, it was fast!), Levarlet eases back into his own tempo.
This means, that he'll get dropped from the second group he's sat in too, and dragged a short while along by the 3rd group.
But by the top of the final climb, Levarlet has passed all of his own group, and caught many more up as they've blown themselves to bits, and Guillaume is still going ok. He does blow on the downhill, but rolls across the line fine.
Awesome stage!

And as we hit the Champs, the team is together, keeping Levarlet safe and sound!
And, as is the fashion when you don't have a sprinter... you don't care who wins!

So, to summarise, we failed both our sponsors goals, of winning a stage, and of top 10ing in the GC. Well, they're still happy, but that's 4 out of 5 goals failed so far. That leaves a top 5 in Paris-Tour to rectify the situation, and maybe getting out of the relegation zone!

I seriously doubt I'll ever get fired. I'm not that crap. My sponsors confidence is Excellent, so unless I somehow fail to race for the rest of the season, I don't think firing will occur. And if it did, fixing my save game would take 3 minutes.

San Sebastian Classic
With Levarlet nearing peak fitness, it's clear he'll be our number one bloke for San Sebastian. Normally it's been Brouzes or Kiryienka, but they're both out of form hideously after an early season peak. Belkov, Ciolek will both be here to start their re-gain of form for Deutschland, and the Vuelta, where stage wins, and sprints will be the main target to try and get some valuable PT points.
Champion, Morizot and Vaugrenard are also here as able supporters of Levarlet as they all have some good form from the Tour.
I say that Morizot is here to support Levarlet, but as the race went on, it seemed only he could get in the break for us.
With 14 others, which soon swelled to 17.
With 40km to go, and the first big climb of the day, the break still has 2 minutes 30 on the pack.
Valverde et al. attacked up the climb though, and overtook the break of the day. Just before the start of the last climb, Morizot was brought back into the pack, leaving Levarlet able to attack out of it. Or certainly try.
Try he did, but all he managed to do was end up at the front, with 3 red bars, no blue left and a train on his tail for the final 3km.
He wasn't going to be getting the 9th spot available, that's for sure!

I don't have the profile for this, but, it's a circuit race. A blooming steep and hilly one!
Levarlet is again leader here with back up from Vaugrenard.
Champion is our man in the break today, as he's in such good form, and never appears to be a threat with his poorer hill abilities.
And as we enter the last lap, a group of 12-14 has formed around the break. We've managed to get in Levarlet and Vaugrenard to join Champion.
And as Vaugrenard pulls back Sprick after an attack for Levarlet, with Levarlet following (we're inside the final 12km), he manages to split the break into just three.
Who will win though? Levarlet is clear favourite, but is tired from attacking (plus it IS extreme mode...)
But no worries! Levarlet wins after Vaugrenard boxes in Sprick and forces him off Levarlet's wheel.
Easy times!
