valv - Thanks! I know exactly what you mean For me, cycling is all about emotion, so that's why I've only done one-rider stories so far, to connect with the rider. |

Tour of Oman - Stage 1
Last year, Beppu got the win of a lifetime here. This year, Willy will go for the win, and nothing less!
Kittel still not in his best shape. Cavendish and Davis are the men to beat here.
1 | Mark Cavendish | Sky Pro Cycling | 3h28'09 | | 2 | Allan Davis | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t. | | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 4 | Arnaud Démare | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 5 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 6 | Marcel Kittel | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 7 | Heinrich Haussler | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t. | | 8 | Elia Viviani | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 9 | Assan Bazayev | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 10 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler |
Tour of Oman - Stage 2
Since Kittel's low form and the hilly finish, Stijn was the main sprinter here.
1 | Allan Davis | Orica-GreenEDGE | 3h06'09 | | 2 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 3 | Heinrich Haussler | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t. | | 4 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 5 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 6 | Alejandro Valverde | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 7 | Daniel Moreno | Katusha Team | s.t. | | 8 | Daniele Bennati | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 9 | Igor Anton | Euskaltel Euskadi | s.t. | | 10 | Mark Cavendish | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t.
Tour of Oman - Stage 3
An easier day. Kittel going for top 5, probably the best achievable with this form.
1 | Allan Davis | Orica-GreenEDGE | 3h03'03 | | 2 | Mark Cavendish | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 4 | Marcel Kittel | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 5 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | | 6 | Arnaud Démare | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 7 | Daniele Bennati | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 8 | Sacha Modolo | Colnago - CSF Inox | s.t. | | 9 | Tony Gallopin | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 10 | Sébastien Chavanel | Euskaltel Euskadi | s.t.
Tour of Oman - Stage 4
With an majorly good-shaped Willy, Stijn and Kittel had the perfect lead-out.
1 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | 3h26'39 | | 2 | Allan Davis | Orica-GreenEDGE | s.t. | | 3 | Tyler Farrar | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 4 | Marcel Kittel | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 5 | Daniele Bennati | Radioshack Nissan Trek | s.t. | | 6 | Mark Cavendish | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 7 | Sacha Modolo | Colnago - CSF Inox | s.t. | | 8 | Stijn Van Gent | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler | 9 | Arnaud Démare | BMC Racing Team | s.t. | | 10 | Ben Swift | Sky Pro Cycling | s.t. | | 11 | Daniel Martin | Team Garmin-Barracuda | s.t. | | 12 | Willy Wouters | Team Argos-Shimano | s.t. | IanButler |
Tomorrow's the mountain finish. Willy's form is promising. Kittel definitely needs some more work for Milan - San Remo!

Tour of Oman - Stage 5

I'm very glad with this tour of Oman. Compared to last year, I feel a lot(!) stronger. I think I might surprise people in the Tour, with maybe even a top 20 place, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet!
All I know is that I finished right behind Anton and Evans, and before Valverde, and that makes me very happy and hopeful!
The cooperation with Kittel went smoothly. I delivered him, like promised, but he just lacked some form. Let's hope that changes soon. In the final stage, I kind of screwed up for him, though, but he managed fine by finishing 6th.
In a couple of days, I finally get to race the Omloop again, this time as a leader. I'm curious how it will go!

Top 3 in GC is very nice. Too bad Kittel couldn't score a win

Well, no glory for Kittel in Oman. He'll have to suffice with a much less prestigious win in San Remo...
Coming up, Omloop het Nieuwsblad!! |

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad
It seems like forever since I started here last year. So much has happened since then. I feel like a rider much more complete and I'm not afraid to speak my ambitions out loud: I'm going for the top 10!
Last year I was 21th, let's try to make this year a better edition!
We didn't get anyone in the breakaway, despite Serry's multiple attempts.
I think my biggest advantage here is my status of underdog. All eyes were on Tom Boonen, the new World Champion.
Therefor it was up to his team to do most of the work. Team Radioshack shared the resposibility to chose down the breakaway.
I was nervous as hell, to be honest. And I was anxious, a bit too anxious. I tried to ride away over 50km from the finish. The result: I got a small group with me.
As expected, we got caught fairly soon, and then Cancellara went his own way.
BMC and Quickstep did most of the chasing. We got reduced to a 20-man group. I had no one left of my team.
Starting the sprint, I followed Vansummeren's slipstream.
Boonen showed us he's ready for the new season!
I was amazed, I was actually fighting Boonen! Hushovd came to play, too, but he was too late. World Champion Boonen took the win and I finish a very surprised second!
I congratulated him and went to the tent to catch my breath. After 5 minutes, it came to me. A second place here, this is the start of a beautiful career. Sure, it isn't finishing 3th in Roubaix, like Boonen started his career, but it's a start!
Result
Tomorrow is Kuurne - Brussel - Kuurne. Let's see what happens there!

You came pretty close to doing a Vanmarcke. There will be possibilities in DdV or E3!

JuanMotr - Well, he's come from a lot further. Stijn's current COB stat is the same as previous Stijn started with Thanks, I'm extremely glad with that result, didn't expect it!
Ollfardh - I was thinking about him for a moment, and then I thought: being 2nd would be awesome. I guess I should've been thinking: "winning would be awesome"
SSJ2Luigi - Of course not |
