The Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) announced Wednesday that he would file a complaint against Ettore Torri, the attorney for the anti-doping prosecutor of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI).
CONI claim Valverde has violated Article 2.2 of the Code of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on the use of prohibited substances, for which they ask two years of suspension, and continue to assert that they have evidence of the involvement of the Spanish in the Puerto scandal, which erupted in 2006.
Beginning in April, Valverde had already qualified CONI's arguments as "totally incorrect" and will later today, with complaints, but also in his statements: "Mr. Torri acts, repeatedly and obstinately, with a total contempt for the Spanish judicial authorities, refusing to submit to the judge's decision No. 31 of Madrid, which prohibits the CONI from using evidence from the criminal investigation to leverage charges against the athletes" , he said in a statement.
Indeed, in February, the High Court of Madrid had expressed its opposition to further proceedings. (AFP)

So actually, Valverde admits he is doped, because he doesn't want Etori to use the evidence. |

Oh well, since we're on the subject of dopees, Vinokourov had an interview with Kazakh media today. Nothing new, really. He wants to win stages in the Vuelta and win the World Championship in Swiss. And he's still convinced that he's going to ride for Astana.
... except for the fact that the team won't exist in August. |

He can still participate in the WC, but then, I think UCI will do something. |

They can't. His ban has expired by then, and the Kazakh Cycling Federation is free to pick anyone they want. |

He hasn't paid his one year salary fine. They could prevent him racing until he does. (Yes, we are down to the fine bits of hope to cling onto).

With Vino, if astana exists (which it won't), they'll have to take him. The Kazach cycling federation will "force" it.
Problem is, nobody wants him back.

Everyone knows he was doped but what is worse - if he will succeed to rule out using this evidence according spanish law - CONI and WADA will not be able to ban him...
I have to apologize all spanish colleagues here but HOW COME THAT PUERTO SAMPLES CANNOT BE USED AS EVIDENCE IN ANOTHER CASE????? It is nonsense.... |

101st Scandinavian Race in Uppsala 1909-2009 startlist
https://www.upsala...lista.html
Some riders from Bålsta CK the club I train with some times every year. I think Iam going to see the race. And fun to see Magnus Bäckstedt and his uber cool jerseys. Capinordic:s Fredrik Ericsson is also fin to see. Was on the WC last year. Where he came 20. Before riders like Hagen, Clement and Hoste.
The race also have a fun history. https://www.upsala...nnare.html
Tempo means time trail. "Swenglish". A 210 km long time trail is pretty hard.

From the looks of things, even if Armstrong and Co. wanted to "start" a new team or find other sponsorship, it would not help ad the PT license belongs to the Kazahks not the team management....On the other hand I could see Johann wanting to leave as he is saddled with having to use "X" amount of Kazakh riders on the team and in particular races. Not that they are any less talented, but I think that it may limit what he (being Johann) feels is the best possible team for each race.
I also think they will do anything to avoid the Vino controversy that is sure to come later this year.
All this to say I can see that a change may be more imminent than anyone is letting on. |
