TTT & Classics Disaster again
We did a little trip to Mexico to see how our guy Juri is doing and while being there we took the chance and competed in the Team TT in Monterey.
Though our TT Lineup isnt Top Notch its still pretty decent so we hoped to land among the Top 5. And exactly this is what we did, we finished 4th and we can really be happy with it. Our Lineup was led by Predatsch and Dumoulin, our best TT guys. Supported by Magnussen and our GC guys Schelling and Elosegui. This was the core we relied on. Goossens was another piece as also our 2 Youngsters Heinrich and Vangheluwe to gain some experience.
I would like to say we also competed in Frankfurt-Eschborn, one of hour home races. But I only can say we participated and even that is in doubt by some people. No rider among the Top 50, Hindley and Koch in the 2nd Group with over 3 minutes were our best riders. So let's not talk more about this.
Upcoming races of our calendar are:
- Uppsala Classic
- Benelux Challenge
- Betonexpressz GP
--------------------------
@Laurens:
Thats the goal. Trying to continue with the Elosegui Project and develop him even further. Though, not a cheap project ????

Always happy to let you check up on Juri, and hope you noticed how he did quite well and lead his team to sixth, just one place below you guys. Congratulations on that top-5. Let's not talk about any other races

The next 2 races we attended were the Uppsala Classic and a bit later then the Benelux Challenge, a HC Race.
Uppsala, a flat one day race, so oure xpectations were 0 after how the season went so far. An early break we sadly didnt make but it survived so we we couldnt score any big here. Willwohl managed to ack a decent position in the sprint of the peloton but in the end that only meant P14 for us.
So lets head to Benelux fo a challenge. A stage race containing of 8 mostly classics like stages. And then it was a HC race with a lot of competition. It started with a short TT. We brought Predatsch and Magnussen so there was a chance to finish good. I would say both delivered, Predatsch came in at 8th and Magnussen at 14th.
Stage 2 was a flat stage with a short cobble section and a few smaller hills. If it would come to a sprint we have here Willwohl in this race. And he did what he does. He finished 1st!!!! Besides the wins in some U25 and KoM Standings this is our first win of the season! We didnt expect any result like this here but Willi just delivers!
The next stages were then more classic like and this would be hard for us. We couldnt repeat the top reults but still did decent. Goossens did a good job always finishing in some of the better groups and in the end he could finish as 26th in the gc. We are really happy with that for a rider like him.
Another highlight was the last stage, it came down to a sprint again and Willi could show again thats he is a really solid sprinter with finishing in 3rd!
So these 2 races were quiet satisfying and we hope now the next races will go similar.

Good to see your results improving lately. It's probably too late for this season, but maybe an outlook on what to expect next year.

@Laurens @Nemo @kb
Thanks. It was really relieving to finally get this done and it seems it also had an effect of the team as a whole.
--------------------------
Betonexpressz GP
Thats a pretty fast story here. Willwohl finished 8th in the sprint. Not an awesome result but we scored again so thats okay and he delivered already at Benelux.
Tour d'Andorra
A C1 race with a lot of climbing. Thats always a bit hard for us since our young leaders (Schelling and Elosegui) arent that great at climbing yet. Here we did send Schelling as lead with help from La Lavandier, Lipowitz, Predatsch, Magnussen and Heinrich. Hindley and Grosser were our (planned guys) for the breakaway.
On S1 Hindley collected Points for the KoM jersey and got it at this stage and Schelling finished well enough to secure the white jersey.
Stage 2, La Lavandier wanted to wear the beautiful red dot jersey too so he went for it on this day, secured enough points and took it from Hindley, oh and also while doing this he "accidentaly" won the stage Great Job! The next W for us.
In general our guys did really well at all the stages keeping at the top or close of the KoM ranking and Schelling in fight for the white jersey.
On the 5th and last stage Schelling hadnt his best day and lost the lead in the U25 ranking, finishing 2nd in the end and losing to our friends from Los Pollos there.
But Hindley seem to predict that and just went for another ush at the KoM jersey collecting more points and the jersey in the end!
Great Race again for us and way more than we expected.
--------------------------
In August there are only 2 races on our calendar. We will visit Italy at the Giro del Trentino and we will head to France for the CP Plouay.
In Addition to this we will see a lot of our young riders at the Tour de l'Avenir.
Lets hope our team can deliver similar then they did the last weeks and finish strong so we can head into the next season full of confidence to finally fight for pormotion next year.

It seems the luck I talked about last time has turned a bit

@redordead
Yes seems like luck is a bit more generous with us now.
@kandesbunzler26
Thanks for reporting this pleasure!
@AbhishekLFC
Thanks, Finally some "real" wins. Even though the jerseys we won so far were great too but an actually stage/race win is just more satisfying.
---------------------------------------------
Pos | Name | Points | 14 | Inigo Elosegui | 160 | 33 | Willi Willwohl | 106 | 42 | Ide Schelling | 90 | 64 | Riccardo Minali | 62 | 92 | Mathieu La Lavandier | 45 | 93 | Jai Hindley | 45 | 104 | Sakari Lehtinen | 37 | 119 | Tom Dumoulin | 30 | 120 | Kobe Goossens | 30 | 123 | Kevin Predatsch | 28 | 142 | Davur Magnussen | 19 | 153 | Tilen Finkst | 17 | 161 | Aaron Grosser | 15 | 215 | Nicolas Heinrich | 5 | 229 | Florian Lipowitz | 4 | 289 | Jonas Koch | 1 |
This is how we're looking at the moment individually. I dont think there is much to say about this. Some did well, others didnt as well as they couldnt. Would have loved it when Minali could have done just more but also he isnt completely useless.
Overall we should be happy since we at least now scored already more than last season in total

Minali does seem to be underperforming a bit, looking at those points. But Elosegui as a Top 15 riders, even if just for the moment, is great value. Hindley and Schelling did great in Andorra in a tough field, which objectively was nice to see, although I didn't love that it came at the expense of Eyob and Tesfatsion But good to see your team picking up the pace. I think if you consolidate your Top 10 in the CT rankings, that can be counted as a successful season, and with your core still being so young, the only way forward over the next years seems to be up!

@cunego59
Yes Minali is a mystery but as now I have accepted my faith and I hope he will be able to do a lot more for the team he is riding for next year
Top 100 would be great but it will be a hard battle and then we just hope for a bright future.
--------------------------------------
Giro del Trentino C2
This short Stage race with only 3 stages in Italy wasnt best suited for us but I believed we had a fair chance to score at least decently. It started with a short TTT and so we did send there DUmoulin and Predatsch to support our leader for this race, Ide Schelling. In case there would been an (unlikely) sprint finish also Minali was sent there. The rest of the squad was filled with talent and also our 2 Stags Steinhauser & Buck-Gramcko.
At this first TTT we did what we could with finishing 7th and just loosing about 1 minute to the top TT Teams here. STage 2 were a hard one with a steep mountain finish at the end. So this was the time for Schelling to show that he can climb also. But the compentition was strong and he isnt yet a top notch climber also. First the top riders here, Chiarello and Berhane could finish, this was to be expected. But luckily for us in the next 3 men group Schelling could finish also ranking 4th at this stage! This also made him 4th in the GC and claiming the white jersey. A great result for us.
The final stage again had some mountains in but the finish line was after the downhill section on the flat. Our hope was now that Schelling wouldnt lose any time and could finish in the top 5 GC-wise and stay in the white jersey. Though the favorites finished about 3 minutes behind the leading and winning group there was only 1 rider in the end to surpass Schelling in the GC so we reached our goals with him finishing Top 5 and winning the U25 classement! So we are really happy how this race went and got more than we expected because of the great perfomance of Schelling.
GP Plouay C2
In France we raced at the GP Plouay. A slightly Hilly One Day Race and as such one we knew we dont really have huge chances for a spectatcular result and wouldnt be surprised if we wont score at all. Hindley & Grosser were our guys for a good result here. And one of them delivered! Hindley could finish in the leading group and took the 8th place in the end. This was a result we could really be happy with and a bit higher than we expected. So we can rate this race as success.

Like expected Schelling could score well and climb some places. With only 2 months now left it's also getting more and more clear in which direction the team will develop in the next year. The team management has now a cleaar vision what should be targeted for the next year and which riders will need to find a new team maybe.
We hope with our left racedays we can fight for a Top 10 place in the final ranking.

There are a lot competitors now for that spot. Yes I look at you kb!!
Good Luck for you and all of us
-----------------------
Mayn other teams have stated in the last times their plans for the upcoming season or what might change. We announced earlier already that the Team Würth MODYF will continue to fight for pormotion next year again! We happily could agree on continuation with our title sponsor Würth MODYF.
With a lot of work in the background and talks with several old and potential new partners we have already settled our sponsor/partner lineup for the upcomming season. We have 2 new preium partners with us and one of them is now in charge of our kits and clothing. More about all of this when the new season really starts but we wont leave you just with that!
So here we present you already how our riders will go into the races!

That's a nice jersey for next season! Good to hear all the sponsors are still on board, with the better results lately and your talents you should have a good foundation to build a squad to content for promotion next season.

I should be in a good position for the Top 10 spot right now with the incredible results in America and some more races to come which should suit our riders well. Wouldn't have dreamed of that two weeks ago.

This was a race we basically just took part of. Mostly Hilly race with a ITT and our team just basically wasnt good enough. Stage wise our highlight was then Willwohl being 10th at the 1st Sage's sprint.
The other results were nothing worth writing about it really. Just Lipowitz in a breakaway and collcting some points for the KoM.
GC | 28 | Ide Schelling | Team Würth MODYF | + 11'04 | U25 | 4 | Ide Schelling | Team Würth MODYF | + 10'36 (4) | KoM | 4 | Florian Lipowitz | Team Würth MODYF | 30 |
Here we can almost say the same as for the Tour of Britain before. With Hindley and Minali finishing both in the Top 10 at stages. The final stage was the hardest and here our riders could get in a decent result so we made it with 3 into the Top 20 for the GC and Elosegui finish 2nd in the U25 Classification.
GC | 14 | Jai Hindley | Team Würth MODYF | + 2'58 | 17 | Inigo Elosegui | Team Würth MODYF | + 3'37 | 19 | Mathieu La Lavandier | Team Würth MODYF | + 3'42 | U25 | 2 | Inigo Elosegui | Team Würth MODYF | + 1'04 |
Unexpectedly our team looked very competetive with the Startlist. A race that most likely would have been decided by the ITT and we had the 2 best TT-Specialists on Paper, Dumoulin and Predatsch. The other stages were terrain for the sprinters and even here we had with Minali a very strong weapon on paper again.
And a miracle happened, Minali finally won! The second stage it was and it was a nice surprise, sadly we hoped he would have delivered much more of this during the year. On Stage 3 he did finish 4th.
Stage 4 was the ITT and we had high hopes! We can say Predatsch did what we expected with finishing second but Dumoulin only finished 9th. Even if it was a good result overall we felt disappointed because it was so much more possible!
The last stage didnt change much so in the end we finished 2nd and 9th in the GC. Minali 3rd in the Points Classification and Vangheluwe also 3rd in the U25 category. Overall we scored really well here, but again more would have been possible.
GC | 2 | Kevin Predatsch | Team Würth MODYF | + 2 | 9 | Tom Dumoulin | Team Würth MODYF | + 41 | Points | 3 | Riccardo Minali | Team Würth MODYF | 49 | U25 | 3 | Warre Vangheluwe | Team Würth MODYF | + 29 (3) | Team | 2 | Team Würth MODYF | + 25 (2) |
The last race of the season for us and I have to say I am satisfied with it. In general Hilly races arent just not suited for our team and so our expectations were low. But Hindley did a good job and could finish 6th there, behind the Winner Wackermann again. Lehtinen with 23rd place also was able to score slightly.
Result | 6 | Jai Hindley | Team Würth MODYF | + 26 | 23 | Sakari Lehtinen | Team Würth MODYF | + 51 |
--------------------------------------
With that our season is completed.
Let me quickly summarize it. Our first half was definitely not good, we did a lot better during the second half, I expected the team score like this the whole season then we maybe would have had a shot for promotion. But we didnt and so we missed our season goal. But on the bright side we did quite a lot better than last season and I am sure we will also do next season. During the season it was quite obvious with wich riders and results I was happy and with whom I wasnt.
So now the offseason starts for us and a lot of decisions has to be made. From our old and new sponsors we already have heard and I can already announce we will be "less restricted" when it comes to new riders. As a german team our focus will still be that but only if it makes sense. Our goal will be a strong team in the end!
So see you all again in the Off Season (maybe NC & WC too though) and then next season again!
--------------------------------------
@abhi
Thanks! I hope so too and I learned a lot things again (some I thought i learned already last year but it seems I didnt )
@kb
We already know yet you have crushed the last part of the season and we were not even a challenger for you and your team. I really hope you will somehow be able to participate in PCT next year!

A solid end to the year with the results in Herald and Zuri. Maybe having two fairly similar riders in Schelling and Elosegui wasn't the most optimal strategy. Still you should have many options to tinker with the squad and have an even better season next year
