Stage 2 was rated as a flat stage, but with a hill close to the finish there could be attacks.
We managed to get Belkov in the break after several tries from him and Phinney. But they didn't stand a chance as the pack sat a fast pace early on the stage, and they were reeled back with 60 kilometres to go.
The mountain sprint came and Kvasina went for the points, or?
Pliuschin followed, and when Kvasina stopped he continued, but he couldn't do it, and it was energy used on nothing.
In the sprint Gasparotte timed it perfect, he came around Lampre's train and took the victory from Napolitano's wheel, in a close fight with Ale-Jet.

Just relax till the mountains comes... after the mountains, when there are flat stages, get in the breakaways
Which mountains are in this Giro? Stelvio? |

I can't remember, I did exactly shut down PCM, but I think there were a finish at Isola, and an early stage that ended with Blockhaus. I can't remember about Stelvio |

The first real test for the GC contenders. Ranked as a hilly stage there may be some attacks on the last 20 kilometres.
It was Nick Nuyens (FDJ) and Bert de Waele (QSI), who went on the break today.
They were of course chased down, and from the last sprint and up the whole "climb" to the finish line Lampre paced the peloton very fast. No one attacked, Pliuschin was happy with that as hills was his worst, and he prepared himself for the sprint, he found the wheel of the best sprinter left, Gasparotto.
But Gasparotto had nothing left in the tank, and Popovych was flying on the right side. Pliuschin immediately jumped over at him, and he come closer and closer. But when Pliuschin should make his move, he couldn't keep up the pace and Popovych took the stage. But still, a great second for Pliuschin, and some worthful boni seconds. Petacchi came from a long way behind, and would for sure have taken the win if the sprint was 500 metres longer, but it wasn't.

They will come when I'm in time of writing. At the moment I'm not. I am preparing for a new season in biathlon, we have a lot of training, close to twice a day, I have school, and I have to sleep. My days are hectic... |
