Last year was arguably our most successful season when it came to achieving our goals. With that said we are cautiously optimistic we've made some solid choices based on last year's success. And for probably the final year we have planned all our goals with our talisman Eduard Alexander Beltran in mind.
We came very, very close to winning in Poland last year so we decided to make it our biggest challenge for this year. With 2nd place last year the goal is to go a step further, but worst case this should still be a race where we finish at least top 5. We had a great time also in San Sebastian last year and we will return to battle the hard competition in PTHC with a top 10 goal.
Our next goal is no surprise as we've had this race earmarked since we got to PCT. It's our one true home race, Balkans International where we aim for a top 5 spot this time. It's not going to be easy, but we have some history with Eddy finishing 5th, 5th and 2nd in the last three years. So we're counting on repeating that feat.
We have a love/hate relationship with Giro dell'Emilia. We won it in 2019, but haven't had nearly the same success when having it as a goal race. Just a top 10 for us this year so hoping to bring this goal home. Finally, our mandatory PCT standings goal is still in the top 15. We outperformed that last year with 8th place, but we still believe for now that our realistic place is in mid table so that will be our main target.
Race | Country | Category | Goal | Cost | Tour de Pologne | | 2.HC | Win | **** | Clasica San Sebastian | | 1.PTHC | Top 10 | *** | Balkans International | | 2.PTHC | Top 5 | **** | Giro dell'Emilia | | 1.HC | Top 10 | ** | Team Standings | | MGUCI | Top 15 | ** |

One thing that is now almost a tradition for us is that we spend a small portion of our budget on wildcard entries to ProTour races every year. We have invites to 4 PT stage races this season. Wildcards are a crucial component in how we have managed to develop our riders on our own and we are doing the same again with the following races.
Start | End | | Race | Category | 12-Feb | 18-Feb | | Tirreno - Adriatico | 2.PT | 13-Mar | 16-Mar | | Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha | 2.PT | 20-Mar | 22-Mar | | Ronde van Nederland | 2.PT | 03-Jul | 23-Jul | | Tour de France | 2.GTM |
Tirreno - Adriatico is a staple race of the PT calendar. We've done both Paris-Nice and Grand Duche in the past so we can complete the triple clash this year. Praha and Ronde van Nederland are both races for which we don't traditionally have strong riders for, but we should have some fun there also.
Finally the big one. We are making our 2nd Grand Tour appearance and again we are heading for the Tour de France. It's the most important race for us development wise, but we also have fond memories of winning a stage there two years ago. Maybe we can repeat that feat.

Start | End | | Race | Category | 09-Jan | | | Down Under Classic | 1.HC | 25-Jan | 27-Jan | | Hong Kong Challenge | 2.1 | 30-Jan | | | Franceville Classique | 1.PTHC |
As always in PCT we start off the season in Australia with the Down Under Classic. Not really an important race on the calendar for us, but it's exciting nonetheless. Next we go to Hong Kong where we will try our best to replicate last year's success. We finish January in Gabon and like in Australia, it's going to be about gaining experience and hopefully getting in a breakaway.
Start | End | | Race | Category | 01-Feb | 08-Feb | | Volta a Portugal | 2.PTHC | 04-Feb | | | Viana do Castelo | 1.1 | 06-Feb | | | Gent - Wevelgem | 1.2 | 10-Feb | | | GP Herning | 1.2 | 12-Feb | 18-Feb | | Tirreno - Adriatico | 2.PT | 22-Feb | 24-Feb | | Tour of Ukraine | 2.PTHC | 22-Feb | 26-Feb | | Circulo de Juarez | 2.HC |
February is a busier month with a large part of the squad in Portugal for both the PTHC stage race and the cobbled classic, in turn skipping Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. After that we will start our C2 racing with two more cobbled races, Gent - Wevelgem and GP Herning. Then it's wildcard time and our first appearance at Tirreno - Adriatico which should be a lot of fun. February concludes with a trip to Ukraine and Juarez in Mexico.
Start | End | | Race | Category | 02-Mar | 05-Mar | | Jelajah SKL | 2.2 | 06-Mar | 11-Mar | | Vuelta al Pais Vasco | 2.1 | 08-Mar | | | Great Ocean Road Race | 1.PTHC | 13-Mar | 16-Mar | | Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha | 2.PT | 20-Mar | 22-Mar | | Ronde van Nederland | 2.PT | 24-Mar | | | Strade Bianche | 1.HC |
Going to the Jelajah SKL stage race almost ends our C2 racing. After that we will go to the Basque country for one of our favorite races, Vuelta al Pais Vasco. Following that we take another long trip to Australia, as part of the PTHC bands we're set to race the Great Ocean Road Race. Back to Europe then for two wildcard races. Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha and Ronde van Nederland should be great races to hone our form for more important races coming up. Lastly we will ride the gravel roads of Strade Bianche.
You can expect more installments like this as the season progresses and the race calendar becomes revealed. This is part 1 of 4.

I think the two top 10 goals are the only ones that can be labeled as "easy", although even that is a bit of a stretch.

I try to pick goals that I think I at least have a chance at
Not hard to figure that one out

You know things are rough in the sprinting department when your lead sprinter has to be rebranded as a "free element" in case he does nothing all year

I think "doing nothing all year" is a fair expectation for an unmaxed rider.

If that’s your expectation for all your unmaxed riders you’re in trouble

I thought we were talking about the "sprinting department"?
You have me at 1/10 grade for sprint terrain in the roundtable. So what should my expectations be?

Round 12470 of jandal explaining his bad jokes to redordead (my fault not yours since I can't speak a word of Slovenian): I thought your expectations were dead on, just laughing about you not even bothering to call Zariff a leader And then was also making a joke about your other unmaxed leader, because if you are saying ""doing nothing all year" is a fair expectation for an unmaxed rider" applies to all unmaxed riders Pogacar is going to let you down in a big way
