Target: Top 5
We start our season in the beautiful New Zealand during the heat of summer in the hills of the East Cape. As a C2HC race, we expect strong competition but believe that Andre suits the race well and so expect him to be fighting at the front at the end.

Hong Kong Challenge

Ruben

Target: Top 10
A C1 stage race which includes a TT. It'll be tough for Andre to break the Top 10 but we hope that he can do so. We send Jaime to focus on the TT stage in the hope that he finds limited competition for the stage win.

Target: Top 3
The C2 one day hilly classic gives Andre another great opportunity. Given the points available, we anticipate less competition than in NZ but still don't expect Andre to be a favourite. However, we believe he should fight for a podium.

Target: Top 10
Our first cobbled race of the season is the first opportunity for us to see what Ovsya is capable of without having much support. The target here is a Top 10 but we hope that, if it comes down to a sprint, he'll be pushing for the podium.

We head to the beautiful New Zealand for the Tour of Southland where Paez will lead us in what will no doubt be a packed C1 field. The Malaysian sprinter, Abdul Halil, will hopefully have a go of it in the sprints.

Nemolito
Some nice ambitions. I wouln't mind a Paez overperformance in Southland to take some points away from my PCT rivals Pfft You can leave the sprints to Maksimov though Wink

Race Highlight - Gisborne GP

A race in the beautiful East Cape of New Zealand, close to our Team Owner's heart, to start our season off.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Profiles/mg_gisborne.jpg

Hesters gave us some TV time early on joining the Break of the Day.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gisborne/PCM0001.jpg

The Break didn't last as we move to the end of the race. Paez leading an 8 man group over the top of the hill.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gisborne/PCM0012.jpg

Riders all over the place but Paez once again at the front with 3km to go. Given his sprint ability this maybe isn't the best idea.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gisborne/PCM0019.jpg

Unsurprisingly, he paid for his positioning and use of energy as he only managed 6th in what was a reduced sprint from distance.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gisborne/PCM0025.jpg

In the end, 6th is not a bad result to start the season but we were hopeful that his acceleration and sprint would get us more in such a finale.

Our first cobbled race of the season and it's an important one in the C2HC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gent%20Wevelgem/GW%201.jpg

Ovsya is part of a 10 man group with 8km to go. Manakov launches an attack.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gent%20Wevelgem/GW%2020.jpg

Manakov holds on for victory. Meanwhile Ovsya manages to sprint his way to a strong 4th place!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Gent%20Wevelgem/GW%2029.jpg

It's a great result for Ovsya given the caliber of the competition here. If we are being critical, he's faster than the 2 riders who finished 2nd and 3rd so he had us dreaming of a podium. However, 4th is a very respectable result and we're proud of our young man!

It's another cobbled race which means another opportunity for young Ovsya to lead the team. It's a tough field in the CT in the cobbles but we'll be hoping for a Top 10 which means good points in a C2HC race.

Target: Top 10 GC
One of only 2 HC races that we are in this season and it's a great opportunity for Jakobsen to show us what he's capable of in what is his first race of the season and his first as a Sprint Leader for us. It won't be easy given that it's HC so we are hoping that he's in and around the Top 10 throughout the 4 days.

Target: Podium
A C2 hilly classic which has historically came down to a reduced uphill sprint and should, therefore, suit Paez very well. He'll have competition as it's a strong CT hills field this year but we expect him to be up there fighting for the win.

5 flat stages in the C1 will likely lure in a lot of the top sprinters from across the CT and PCT. Jakobsen will have a great chance here to fight for a strong result which we know he can bring. We target Top 10 but, depending on the start list, could be expecting more.

It's a C1 cobbled race to finish the month which presents a more difficult opportunity for Ovsya. If it comes down to a reduced sprint then he could be in and amongst the Top 5/10. If it's decided earlier on then it's likely to be a tough race for the team.

Race Highlight: Volta a Catalunya

Stage 1

Paez one of the top favourites for the opening stage here.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/01ca01.jpg

Cosnefroy leading the peloton in the chase with 100km to go.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/01ca05.jpg

Paez the one to drag back the Chaves attack with 5km to go.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/01ca15.jpg

One of our former riders, McEvoy, takes the win. Paez finishes strongly in 3rd which leaves him 4th in the GC.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/01ca20.jpg

Stage 2

The 2nd stage is the only one for the sprinters so we're not expecting anything here given our squad.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/02ca01.jpg

It came down to a Sprint. Benjamin Thomas finished in 10th. No other time losses.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/02ca13.jpg

Stage 3

It's the first GC decisive stage being the TTT for which we are favourites to open the gap to the other top climbers in the Peloton.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/03ca01.jpg

Our team look slick together on the roads of Catalunya!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/03ca07.jpg

We live up to our name as favourites and take the stage by 40 seconds. Thomas led us over the line and thus gets the top step on the podium.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/03ca16.jpg

In the GC, Paez moves into Yellow. He has a 4 second lead ahead of Borisavljevic & Hasnaoui and a further second back to Mas & Cosnefroy. Our closest competitor is a further minute back so we are left with some breathing space going into the Mountains.

Stage 4

Mas is one of the top favourites for the first Mountain stage and needs to make the advantage from the TTT count.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca01.jpg

There was a 31 man breakaway that we would have to control.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca02.jpg

Much later in the stage and Mas following the attack of Iino.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca15.jpg

The two of them have caught the remaining escapee and dropped Amador in the process.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca16.jpg

Amador catches Mas and Iino but Mas puts the foot down and opens a gap.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca17.jpg

Mas nears the finish and is holding a 25 second gap but he's got a trio after him!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca19.jpg

Under 1km to go. The gap is down to 15 seconds. Will he be able to hold on>
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca20.jpg

AND HE DOES IT! In the end there are no time gaps but the Spaniard takes his first win for the team.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca23.jpg

Mas takes over the GC lead with a 44 second gap to Iino, 1'32 to Potocki and 1'52 to Amador. Paez and Borisavljevic sit 6th and 7th. Mas also moves to 2nd in the Points classification and we sit 2nd in the Teams.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/04ca27.jpg

We move into the final 2 stages with the Yellow Jersey on the shoulders of Mas which is where we need it to be. Stage 5 has a few bumps so we’ll just have to ensure nothing too major happens.

Stage 5

A similar stage to the opener with Paez listed as a top favourite and Mas also on the list. Our priority here being to ensure Mas doesn't lose time.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca01.jpg

As expected, our guys working to chase down the 16 man BotD.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca03.jpg

Everyone is dragged back but then Roson gets on the early attack forcing some pace in the chasing group.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca10.jpg

An attack from Roson forces the group into some action and Chaves pulls away. Paez seemingly forgets his duties and follows with Palini in his wheel.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca11.jpg

Mas meanwhile follows his nearest GC rival and seems content with Paez going up the road to thwart efforts for the stage win.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca12.jpg

Paez and Mas avoid doing any work as the groups come back together as we approach the finish.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca15.jpg

Chaves is the first to go with 800m to go. Paez and Mas relaxed on the right-hand side as we look at them.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca17.jpg

400m to go, Chaves looks like he's comfortably going to take this one. Paez so far staying at the side of Mas.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca18.jpg

Chaves already celebrating. Paez meanwhile now senses his chance.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca19.jpg

It was late from both of our riders but Paez powered into 2nd place. Mas meanwhile used his acceleration effectively to take 4th on the stage!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/05ca20.jpg

2nd and 4th means another good points haul. No time gaps means no changes in the GC which Mas still leads. Paez & Borisavljevic also still 6th and 7th.
The only change is in the Points classification where Mas moves into the lead while Paez moves to 2nd and will wear Green on the final stage.

The final stage is the toughest of the lot and it'll be all hands on deck to control the race and ensure Mas ends it in Yellow!

Stage 6

The final stage and it's not an easy one. Mas will be under attack here from his GC rivals.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/06ca01.jpg

About 7km to go and Paez is dropped, 16 remain in the leading group.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/06ca16.jpg

Mas seemingly paying for his effort to sprint in Stage 5. Only 500m to go though!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/06ca23.jpg

He comes in alone and he's lost the GC by 13 seconds... Clearly not provided with enough protection and he was left exposed.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/06ca27.jpg

He does however win the Points classification ahead of Paez so a good 1-2 there.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Catalunya/pics/06ca31.jpg

In the end, it was disappointing to lose the GC by the narrowest margins on the final stage to a rider who isn't naturally as strong. However, 2nd in the GC with Milos 11th and Paez 13th is still a strong overall result. Add in a stage win in the TTT and a Mas stage win & a 1-2 in the Points classification and 2nd in the Teams ensures a great points haul for us here in Spain.

Points wise and stage wise quite a great race for you of course. Just sad for you to see Mas crash that hard in the final km of the race :/ Still, your team clearly showed they are ready to go back to PCT.

Race Highlight: Tour of Southland

Not a strong race for us from a GC perspective but we would like to take this opportunity to highlight a rider who showed attacking spirit and was rewarded for it.

Stage 1

Castrillo on the attack early.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S1/PCM0005.jpg

He wins the KOM sprint.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S1/PCM0009.jpg

He also wins the intermediate sprint.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S1/PCM0010.jpg

He is caught with 10km to go but it was a great effort!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S1/PCM0011.jpg

Castrillo leads the KOM after Stage 1!

Stage 2

Castrillo senses another opportunity to get in the spotlight. No KOM sprints on this stage though.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S2/PCM0002.jpg

Unfortunately it's only 2nd in the intermediate sprint for him on this stage.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S2/PCM0007.jpg

There were KOM points for the stage winner so Castrillo drops to 2nd.

Stage 3

He's a bit late on the attacks today but he's powering his way to join the breakaway for the 3rd stage in a row!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S3/PCM0008.jpg

He wins the intermediate sprint this time.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S3/PCM0009.jpg

Can't win the KOM sprint but he takes 2nd which secures more points.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S3/PCM0010.jpg

He tried an earlier attack to get maximum points in the final KOM sprint of the stage but fails and only gets 1 point for 3rd.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S3/PCM0012.jpg

They are eventually caught. Highlighting the stage finale here as our young Malaysian sprinter, Abdul Halil, finished in a very respectable 6th.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S3/PCM0019.jpg

Castrillo 2nd in the KOM and 9th in the Points classification going into Stage 4.

Stage 4

Unsurprisingly, it's Castrillo on the attack yet again.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S4/PCM0002.jpg

It's another win for him in the intermediate sprint!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S4/PCM0010.jpg

No other action from us in Stage 4. Castrillo 1 point off the KOM lead in 3rd while he moves up to 5th in the Points classification.

Stage 5

It's 5/5 for Castrillo as he is in the Breakaway yet again! Some effort from the Spaniard.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S5/PCM0006.jpg

He rolls over the intermediate sprint in first place which moves him level with the leader in the Points classification for now!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S5/PCM0007.jpg

He only manages 2nd in the KOM which puts him back in the lead in that classification.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S5/PCM0008.jpg

He manages only 3rd in the final KOM sprint but this secures him the win in this classification!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Southland/S5/PCM0009.jpg

It's a great effort from Castrillo throughout and he has deserved this KOM win given he was on the attack and in the breakaway on all 5 stages! His willingness to sprint for the intermediate points also paid off as he managed 4th in the Points classification as well. Not the greatest for us from a GC or stage result perspective but Castrillo ensured that points were scored.

Race Highlight: Geraardsbergen - Bosberg

It's another cobbled race which means another opportunity for Ovsya to lead the team and get a good result.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Geraardsbergen/pics/gb01.PNG

Paez, not the best cobbler, was our rider in the breakaway. He was later caught.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Geraardsbergen/pics/gb04.PNG

He rode an anonymous race but Ovsya managed a very strong 7th in what was a strong field.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/Geraardsbergen/pics/gb26.PNG

Definitely a great result here for our young Cobbler who is very much riding on his own in such races this season. He follows up his 4th in Gent - Wevelgem with a great 7th here!

Stage 1

Thijssen & Thomas proving a lead-out in the finale for Jakobsen.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_01_PCM0021.jpg

In the end it's not the worst start as he manages 8th.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_01_PCM0079.jpg

Stage 2

No train from us this time around but Jakobsen picks up a good wheel.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_02_PCM0135.jpg

He holds a strong position as we head into the finish!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_02_PCM0154.jpg

It's 2nd in the end for Jakobsen behind Ewan. A very respectable result indeed. After 2 stages he is 5th in GC, 5th in Points and 2nd in the U25.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_02_PCM0158.jpg

Stage 3

We'll keep this short. He finished 11th. This sees him drop to 7th in GC and Points while he holds onto 2nd in the U25.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_03_PCM0211.jpg

Stage 4

Not a bad position for Jakobsen to be in as he passes under the kite.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_04_PCM0248.jpg

He's moving at pace on the near side here. This could be a big result for him
and the team.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_04_PCM0254.jpg

Oh so close as he is pipped on the line by AKA. 2nd it is!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/HC/Barbados/mg21_barbados_04_PCM0260.jpg

That 2nd on the last stage propelled Jakobsen up to 2nd in the GC!! He ends up a single second behind Boivin (Volcanica) which is huge for both CT Teams. A win on that final stage would have meant a GC win so he was so close.. His consistency did win him the Points jersey and he came away as the best young rider as well.

In the end a huge points haul for our star Sprinter and for the team which helps us in our CT promotion push and Title fight!

Stage 2

After nothing on Stage 1, Jakobsen gets in the mix for 5th on Stage 2. He moves to 8th in the GC, 7th in the Points and 1st in the U25s.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S2/16.jpg

Stage 3

He was in a position to push for a strong result but he had to settle for 7th. He drops to 9th in the GC, 8th in the Points but holds his lead in the U25s.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S3/13.jpg

Stage 4

It's another there and there abouts stage as he takes 8th. He unfortunately drops outside the Top 10 in the GC and down to 10th in the Points but maintains his lead in the U25s.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S4/14.jpg

Stage 5

700m to go and he's in 5th which isn't the best position but also not the worst.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S5/11.jpg

A similar position with 400m to go. Can he find a late burst of energy?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S5/12.jpg

He looks to push further up with 200m to go! Could he get a podium?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S5/13.jpg

He'd need a big push from here...!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S5/14.jpg

And he manages to steal 3rd on the line!!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Juarez/S5/16.jpg

A great podium on the final stage meant 4th in the GC for our star sprinter!! Another fantastic GC result following up his efforts in Barbados. He also takes 4th in the Points classification and takes a win in the U25s reinforcing his status as one of the best young sprinters in the world!
A great points haul for the team in a C1 race and Jakobsen continues his charge towards the CT Individual Rider Title.

April Highlights

Tour of California

Hard work on the front from Paez on Stage 2 didn't quite pay off as Mas finished 8th on the Stage putting him 7th in the GC.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2/California/S2/33.jpg

A hilly stage 3 worked out very well for us as Paez and Mas went 2nd and 3rd with Fernandez and Borisavljevic 9th and 10th as well. This propelled Mas to 3rd in the GC.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2/California/S3/29.jpg

On the final stage we attempted attacks with Mas but it was too late and he finished in a group of 13 in 7th with Borisavljevic 8th.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2/California/S7/39.jpg

In the end it was a little disappointing but Mas ended up 4th in the GC with Borisavljevic 5th. Paez 13th and Fernandez 19th doing a great job throughout as domestiques.

Baltic Chain Tour

Stage 1

The opening stage was a cobbled prologue. Thomas, not good on the pavee, managed 10th. Jakobsen in 22nd limiting his time losses.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S1/04.jpg

Stage 2

The team did get involved in the sprint with a lead-out train through the middle here.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S2/10.jpg

But in the end he was left to fight alone for too long and Jakobsen could only manage 10th.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S2/17.jpg

Stage 3

2.5kms to go and again we put a train together.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S3/09.jpg

1.7km now and we still had a lead-out in place.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S3/10.jpg

Under the kite and Jakobsen was biding his time.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S3/11.jpg

But in the end he could only manage 4th in a strong field where he didn't quite have the kick. This did move him up the GC though.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S3/14.jpg

Stage 4

No train today as Jakobsen (in white) was well positioned coming up to the kite.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S4/09.jpg

700m to go and he eyed a gap between the Minions riders.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S4/10.jpg

400m and showing good pace on the right-hand side.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S4/11.jpg

AND HE WON THE STAGE by a bike length! He moved into the GC lead with this win holding a 10 second gap going into the final stage.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/BalticChain/S4/13.jpg

Stage 5

Jakobsen not involved in the sprint on the final day and ended up 13th on the stage.

BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER AS OUR SPRINTER SENSATION WON THE GC! Winning Stage 4 and a good result on Stage 3 was all it took in the end as he won the GC by 8 seconds.

This win along with 3rd in the Points Classification and 1st in the U25s meant a very heavy points scoring race for the Dutchman Grin

USA Pro Cycling Challenge

It's Goal Race time where our goal is to finish in the Top 5 of the GC.

Stage 1

Cosnefroy put in a magnificent effort as he won the opening stage by 6 seconds!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S1/PCM0014.jpg

Jakobsen a minute behind which rules him out of GC contention really. Noia best young rider though as he managed 5th on the stage!
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S1/PCM0019.jpg

Stage 2

Thomas provided a powerful lead-out in the sprint.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S2/PCM0013.jpg

But in the end it was disappointing as Jakobsen only managed 6th on the stage.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S2/PCM0018.jpg[

Stage 3

Another poor effort from Jakobsen as he was only 7th on the stage. In the GC, Cosnefroy only 6 seconds clear of 2nd with 1 stage remaining.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0018.jpg

Stage 4

Jakobsen left to fight early in the sprint but he did have the lead with 800m to go.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S4/PCM0012.jpg

He could only manage 8th on the stage.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S4/PCM0015.jpg

And in the end Cosnefroy was level with Matthews on time but Matthews won the GC on countback so we had to settle for 2nd. It's disappointing because if Jakobsen had done better on the final stage, or one of the others, then we would have had a GC Win but..

GOAL ACHIEVED Grin

We can't complain too much with that. We also finished 2nd in the Teams classification. Young loanee, Carlo Noia, also performed well as he took 10th in the GC and 2nd in the U25s.

In the end it was a very good points scoring month for us. Our team enjoyed the USA with 4th/5th in California and 2nd in the USAPCC. But the big highlight was definitely Jakobsen's GC win in the C1 Baltic Chain Tour. This one will live long in the memory of us and our fans.

DarkWolf
I have to be honest, I am not very sorry for how Tour of California turned out for Mas since Amador won it. Wink
Congratulations on winning the Baltic Chain Tour and for achieving the goal at USA Pro Cycling Challenge! Your team is on fire and deservedly so.

PRESS RELEASE: Sponsors Gone

t3.ftcdn.net/jpg/02/73/40/10/360_F_273401075_9rMXYaxqfXc7QWSO3OKhplJH7CBPvPuu.jpg

We are gathered today to make an announcement on the future of this team.

Following lengthy discussions between General Manager, Luis Leon Sanchez, and representatives of our Sponsors, Saudi Aramco and DP World, the team would like to take this opportunity to announce that these discussions have resulted in the decisions being made to mutually terminate the sponsorship deals of both companies.

Despite the likelihood that the team will return to the Pro Continental Tour next season, both sponsors felt that there was misalignment in terms of the regional focus of the team which GM, Luis, was willing to admit would not be addressed in the near future.

GM, Luis, was hopeful that fans which supported the team in the Euskaltel days would stick with the team following the change 2 years ago but this hasn't been the case.

Luis and his team are now on the hunt for new sponsors and will be having internal discussions to decide on the strategic approach of the team going into 2022 and beyond.

Riders under contract have been re-assured that there will be no financial constraints going into next season which would put their futures at the team in doubt.

2021 Season Review

To say it was a successful season in terms of results would be an understatement. We've finished the 2021 Season 2nd in the Continental Tour. In the end our title challenge fell short, by 400 points, but we are a clear 2nd, by about 700 points.

The season's wins are listed below. The highlights, of course, being Jakobsen's GC win off the back of a stage win in the C1 Baltic Chain Tour, Thomas's GC win in the C1 Olympia's Tour and Cosnefroy's goal achieving GC win in the Herald Sun Tour.
We also won 12 individual stages with 5 different stage winners + 2 TTTs.
Staying true to our beliefs, our riders also won the U25 classification 6 times along with the Points twice, the Teams twice and a lone KOM win as well.

Individual Rankings

Our 2nd place in the CT Rankings was off the back of some outstanding individual performances throughout the season.

The stand-out rider for us this season was, without doubt, Fabio Jakobsen. The 25yr old Dutch sprinter was a huge threat in HC and C1 races which saw him amass 649 points to put him top of the CT Individual Rider Rankings.

Our highly paid Spaniard, Enric Mas, may be disappointed that he didn't manage to win a Stage Race this season but he was consistently at the pointy end which saw him take 4th, only behind Amador in terms of Stage Racers.

A rider who caught the eye of many last season while on loan in the PT enjoyed success again this year. That rider is Benoit Cosnefroy. The well-rounded French TTist really had quite an amazing season with a fantastic ending lifting him up to 6th in the rankings, also breaking the 400 point mark.

Quite amazingly, the surprise package of the CT, was Benjamin Thomas. He's not quite as well-rounded as his French compatriot but he's still full of quality. He ended up 15th in the rankings, managing over 300 points!

We start to drop off somewhat with Andres Paez down in 31st. He had a tough field in the Hills this season but still managed some respectable one day classic results.

A disappointing season for our Serbian, Milos Borisavljevic, who was often riding for Mas. He didn't make it to 200 points which sees him down in 40th.

A solid first season for our newest arrival, Alexandr Ovsyannikov. He picked up 131 points.

It's then TT galore as Jaime Castrillo scored fairly well, while the 2nd surprise package of the team was loanee Carlo Noia who almost cracked 100 points!

The rest of the team also contributed as only rider didn't score a point. That was however one of our 2 stagiares in Sam. Shout out to Kawasaki who managed a single point.

Goal Review

Team Standings - Top 5: 2nd

Easily achieved in the end. We were confident that this would be very achievable and it became apparent early on that this would be the case.

Herald Sun Tour - Win: 1st Cosnefroy & 2nd Thomas

We left one of our win goals till very late in the season which ramped up the excitement in October. Not only did Cosnefroy win it, along with the TT, we actually took home a 1-2 after Thomas came 2nd in the race deciding TT. Abdul Halil also popped up to win Stage 1!

USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Top 5: 2nd Cosnefroy

One of the earlier goals of our season. Cosnefroy got off to a fantastic start by winning the short opening TT. He lost the GC win on the final day on countback but came away with 2nd place.

Course de Solidarnosc - Top 5: 4th Jakobsen

The one race we needed Jakobsen to perform in and he did enough as winning Stage 3 helped him to finish a fairly comfortably 4th.

Monterrey TTT - Win: 4th

Logistics issues saw only 6 riders attending this one which cost us dearly as we only managed 4th.

Overall, achieving 4 out of 5 goals is a magnificent feat (18/23 Goal Points). We should be well rewarded come the Transfer Season to support our plans for 2022.

We will provide more in-depth reviews into the seasons of our individual riders at a later date.

Apologies for Big D Ovsya being discriminated against, now that we are in same division I expect him to destroy me in every race I attend. Congratulations on the big D

Congrats on promotion!

Maybe I'll have a chance to win some TTs next year!
