Comment from Gerolsteiners manager: "We are quite pleased with todays results. Not counting our three TT-giants (Schumacher, Fothen, Lang) we enterred the race with a pretty weak team TT-wise as we left several strong Time Trialists such as Scholz at home.
We had excpected to loose significantly more time, and are happy to see that we were wrong at this point. But as mentioned earlier, we have no intentions of competing for the overall, our goal was, and still is, a stage victory in one of the hilly stages. |

The manager of Française des Jeux was quite satisfied with todays result.
"Loosing a minute and a half to Team Columbia must be considered as a fine days work given the length of todays stage. Although finishing as second best french team, only seconds behind Cofidis is heartbreaking." |

The Liquigas team manager was quite pleased with 11th: " We're no a TT based team but will hope to get up there in the mountains with Franco and keep him in for P-R. |

A confident team Astana manager;
"We wanted to win this stage and grab the yellow jersey, so we're a bit disappointed. A small consolation is that we lost to two teams that are specialized in this sort of stages and this 3th place will surely results in the yellow jersey tomorrow."
"We have a very strong team here. All eyes will be on Contador, but we also expect a good performance from Kloden and Leipheimer. And don't forget our dark horse, Vladimir Gusev, I expect he could do very well in this race."
"It doesn't matter who our team leader will be tomorrow as long as we win the stage and the yellow jersey."
"Sure we know that the cobbled stage doesn't suit our riders, but we still have a lot of difficult stages to go. We'll take this race day by day. So we'll first focus on tomorrow."

Tour de Pain - Stage 2
I purposefully placed the ITT of the Plan de Corones mountain right after the TTT so that teammate would all be starting at similar times (Unless dropped in the TTT). So CSF are the team whose riders will set the benchmarks.
Grillo was the first to ride but was then beaten by his teammate Pagoto by 11 seconds. Napolitano of Lampre was the 3rd to go and he took the same time as Grillo. Laverde then caught his teammate Dall'Antonia as he set the new best time of 35'01, 71 seconds faster than Pagoto. But right behind Laverde was Domenico Pozzovivvo.
Pozzovivvo lowered the best time by 55 seconds, before quickly dropping behind his teammate Perez Cuapio by 3 seconds. Emmanuelle Sella is CSF's leading climber though, and took the lead by 33 seconds.
Oscar Sevilla couldnt beat CSF's 3 main climbers, taking 4th
The next team of riders to come is LPR and Danilo di Luca raced up the climb to take the lead, 27 seconds ahead of Sella
Teammate Paolo Savoldelli then went 3rd, albeit 49 seconds down.
Marzio Bruseghin took 4th. 5 seconds slower than Savoldelli but Lampre's best hope was Cunego. Despite wearing a Spiuk helmet, Cunego could not beat Di Luca and took 2nd, 15 seconds behind.
Cunego would soon slip to 3rd as Juan Mauricio Soler took 2nd, 13 seconds behind Di Luca
So far the TT has only had Italian teams, so its time for a change with the Euskaltel Spaniards.
Samuel Sanchez was the best, taking 4th place just ahead of Sella while Haimar Zubeldia went 6th and Mikel Astarloza 8th.
It is very possible that Leonardo Piepoli has targeted this stage as 'his stage'. He did not much in a lot of effort in the TTT yesterday and was dropped. His plan seems to have worked as he took the lead at the finish - by 4 seconds over Di Luca.
Vladimir Efimkin established himself as the Ag2r leader when he went 9th
Efimkin's team was the best of any rider in a French team today, although only 5 seconds faster than Maxime Monfort who was 11th.
Franco Pellizotti lost 9 seconds on his Liquigas teammates yesterday but made up for it by going 5th, 28 seconds down on Piepoli
Another Liquigas rider who really shone today was Charly Wegelius. Who went a surprising 14th, exactly a minute behind Piepoli - 2 seconds ahead of teammate Nibali.
Piepoli still leads as the rest of his Saunier Duval team near the top. And Piepoli's time will not last as Riccardo Ricco smashes it to pieces. He sets a new best time, 23 seconds faster than his teammate.
Ricco's time was for too good for Alejandro Valverde who finished 41 seconds slower in 4th place.
Here you can see Fabian Cancellara enjoy a rare flat section on the course. It didnt last very long and Cancellara did not finish inside the top 100.
His teammate fared better though as Sastre lost just 29 seconds to Ricco in taking 4th.
The two Schlecks lost over a minute to Ricco but were just outside the Top 10, along with Markus Fothen, the best Gerolsteiner rider today.
With neither Sastre nor Valverde getting into the Top 3, the podium remained an all-Italian affair. Up until when Denis Menchov finished, the Russian went 3rd 26 seconds down.
Cadle Evans very nearly caught teammate van den Broeck at the top of the climb and when the Belgian went 16th, 1'14 behind Ricco, we knew it would be close. But Evans couldnt quite do it, falling 6 seconds short and taking 2nd.
The Astana team have 3 viable contenders for the stage today - and unless they all finish 10 or more seconds behind Cadel Evans, one of them should become the new race leader. Leipheimer is in the background, Contador the middle and Kloden in the forefront of this image
Kloden couldnt do it, coming outside of the Top 10 but Alberto Contador was strong. Yet not strong enough, Contador takes 2nd on the stage, 4 seconds behind Ricco, but into the yellow jersey
Leipheimer meanwhile finished in the same time as Di Luca, in the top 10.
Look! It's David Millar!
Linus Gerdemann would lose his young riders jersey today to Alberto Contador.
That young riders jersey cant be worn by Contador though and will be instead on the shoulders of Thomas Lovkvist who surprised everyone with a brilliant 14th place (for someone with 76 MO)
Here is George Hincapie in the Green points jersey:
As there are no points on offer today, that jersey will be worn tomorrow by Marco Pinotti who, as predicted, loses the race lead after finishing 69th, just over 2 minutes down on Ricco.

Markus Fothen at 22nd... an "okay" placement, no more, no less. But I`m wondering a bit what the heck happened to Kohl Yeah I know, he`s much worse in this DB than he`s doing in the Tour, but still
Btw, if you look at it an other way, and remove all the "dopeheads" from the list, Markus actually finished 8th. |

Im not quite sure how you make it that 14 dopeheads finished above Fothen? I make it 2 - Ricco and Di Luca. The rest are only riders who you suspect to be doped
Impossible Im afraid
