Ha, that describes my attitude pretty well, too I love Winter Olympics and will try to take in as much coverage as I can with work, studies and some DB work here and there.
As a very basic German winter sports fan, I'm probably most looking forward to biathlon and ski jumping But the beauty of the Olympics, winter and summer alike, to me is randomly turning on the TV and watching some sport you probably only watch every 4 years, if even that. Hook some curling, some skeleton and some freestyle right into my veins!

Absolutely this. I'll have it running all day every day until their finished while doing other stuff, really looking forward to it.

Hi! I really like skiing and I often ski about 50 km every week in winter. So the main kind of winter sports for me is clear From the others I'll be watching speed skating, biathlon and nordic combined and maybe luge & bobsleigh because I have no enough time for everything unfortunately.

My wife is a big fan of biathlon and I watched it from time to time with her. And since I watched it the last 4 or 5 Olympics I'll definitely watch it this year as well. For the rest, well, hockey is something I followed from time to time and the other sports I'll get a look at when I switch on the TV. |

Not watching a lot of this, but I do like the Jacobellis story. I remember seeing her showboating and crashing in 2006, but she learned her lesson and finaly won the gold.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

What a fantastic girlish 10 km classic TT in Olympics! More time trials in the ski calendar as it was been in 1980-90-2000s: it is real demonstration of power!

The Russians are doping?! Oh no!
Anyway...
Thoroughly enjoyed Shaun White almost stealing a medal in a very entertaining Halfpipe final. As someone that, for some reason i can't explain, owns two copies of Shaun White Snowboarding it's weird to think he's retired now.
Also yesterdays Men's Snowboard Cross was excellent, some good surprises and a nail-biting finish.

That's very strange december (!) test with micro(!)dose (Why didn't they publish it earlier?) and not after Olympic start = another speculation. So many questions.
Btw congrats Iivo Niskanen with his second 15 km Olympic classic. Now there's two classic skiing legends: Andrus Veerpalu and Iivo Niskanen!

December 25th, take as part of an in-competition test at the Russian Champs. So absolutely the opposite of strange timing.
Micro dose? Really, that's an argument? I mean, you certainly don't take handfuls of pills right before a contest. Like with most drugs similar to TMZ that can be available in ordinary prescriptions, you have to hit a certain threshold to trigger an AAF. That is very hard to do if you were actually "micro-dosing" in a "legit" way.
Because Rusada was stripped of it's WADA accreditation all anti-doping samples taken in Russia have to be sent overseas for testing. Given this sample was taken on 25th December there would be delays in both shipping to a lab and then in testing. Plus you consider the time involved in conducting the test, verifying the results and the various other bits involved, to have the report confirmed on 7th February, is a reasonably realistic timeline. And these legal areas become even more complex and important to complete properly when dealing with someone who is legally a child.
I'm much more comfortable putting my faith in WADA and their systems, rather than the comments of the, still banned for doping, ROC.
This will rumble onwards through CAS. Firstly to clear her in time to compete on Tuesday, and then the obvious implication on the fall-out from that decision and relation to the AAF. Step one of which is wait until we hear the outcome of the B-sample check. If that's negative this pretty much all goes away given the nature of the drug involved. If it's positive, oh boy are we in for a sh*t show!

The figure skater, who played for the US team in the Olympic team tournament, supported Valieva: https://then24.co...d-valieva/
I knew there're many people in US are humanes and they don't support this hysteria fomenting some popular media. Respect!

I don't think these Winter Olympics should've been held - not this year and especially not in China. The Olympics are used as a cover-up by the CCP to distract the global audience from China's human rights abuse towards the Uyghur people in Northwest China and the brutal suppression of protesters in Hong Kong. Not to mention the ongoing pandemic where many top athletes were denied the opportunity they fought for 4 years by testing positive for Covid. Some may not even make it to the next Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, so it sucks that they couldn't bid farewell (but then again without any audience that farewell would be soulless). And on top of that some decisions made me scratch my head. In the short track speed skating events I think they were using the video review more that a referee uses VAR on football match. Some disqualifications were so dubious and in favor of the Chineese skaters, that I seriously think that some events are rigged. And then there's the parody of competition at these Olympics, called mixed team ski jumping. 5 jumpers - all female mind you, were disqualified left, right and center during the competition. Why? Because of the age old "problem" with the suits. If it was OK to use them in the individual competition, why the f*ck are the people responsible for the equipment control do it now? And then there's this - Kamila Valieva, a child no less, has been found with positive test for banned substance in December!!! That substance is believed to not be improving the performance of the athete - but WHY ARE THEY COUNT IT AS PED ANYWAY? And the whole ordeal would be bad psychologically for Valieva herself regardless whether or not she would be allowed to compete.
Bottom line - both the IOC and WADA are incompetent and corrupt organizations that should be disbanded entirely. The Olympics have sadly become a parody of what Pierre de Coubertin has envisioned over a century ago and now is a mere pawn in the ever growing geopolitical games. I watch the Olympics mainly to support the men and women from every corner on the planet that through hard work have earned their right to compete for the gold medal. Yesterday I've watched the cross-country skiing 15km event and there was a Colombian skiier (one of the last started) that clearly was struggling, but I've admired his determination and courage to finish. He finished last, sure, but he was as happy as the winner of the race. This is the true embodiment of the Olympic spirit.

Absolutely agree. IOC and WADA lie all the time and doing the same thing as some western politicians accusing Russia of imaginary invading Ukraine for building up NATO forces in Europe. And IOC and WADA fabricated artificial "doping" scandal with Russian athletes after Sochi (withdrawing several medals of 2014 Olympics, unmotivated disqualifications for Russian team leaders to 2018 Olympics). And now without any political arguments they trying to press us via sport. That's ridiculous but it's too bad for our honest athletes. So sport with politics stops to be sport.

I have to agree I'm feeling sorry for that 15 year old girl. This doping was never her decision, she's the victim of a defeated former superpower struggling to find its new place in a world were all other countries have lost their respect in, let alone fear of, Russia. This is not a little girl trying to beat the others by cheating, this is a state-sponsored system of cheating where she has to accept or they'll find a slightly less talented girl who will obey them.
I really hope she gets only a small suspension so she can be there in 4 years and show the world what she really can do. Although she probably has to apply for a different nationality, as I don't see how Russian athletes can be allowed to join international events at this point.
Olympic Games in China, World Cup in Qatar. What a year for human rights!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
