Having 2 GB of RAM is completely different to having 1GB. RAM is not expensive, and going from 1 to 2 GB is a big performance increase for games.

Its cheap unless you go insane and buy fast quality RAM with severe overclocking capabilities. Kinda like me
Now say, you guys know if my friends computer will be able to run it?
OS: Vista 64-bit
CPU: Intel Core2Duo E6600 overclocked with around 800MHz (and im quite sure thats per core)
Graphics: 2x8800GTS Ultra running in SLI mode. Both overclocking heavily.
RAM: Some fancy-ass 4GB solution running at around 600MHz.
Special features: Water-cooling, 9000RPM HDD and enough LED's to confuse birds.
I mean, it runs Crysis pretty good, but im not sure about PCM08

My PC runs crysis maxxed out in dx10 and sometimes had trouble with PCM07 if there were too many trees on screen (AKA the Cuneo-Jausiers stage)

I will now show how stupid I am, but here we go: Can I buy any kind of RAM and put them in my laptop? |

Short answer: No
Long answer: RAM-blocks use certain types of ports on the motherboard. These typically go under "SD", "DDR1" "DDR2" and "DDR3". Now, SD and DDR1 is rather ancient, DDR2 is the most common around here, but DDR3 is the newest and is rather expensive but incredibly fast if you value speed over economy. So, no you cant buy any kind of RAM and shove it in. You need to buy the right type that will fit into your motherboard.
But oh no! It gets worse! These motherboard ports come in special versions depending on what kind of speeds they're build to handle. As the RAM can operate in speeds varying from 166MHz to 1600MHz, a RAM-block doing 1600MHz could simply fry a 166MHz port. The same goes for power. If a RAM-block gets too much, it turns into a cloud of smoke and says "fzzzzz". Likewise giving them too little power makes them highly unstable.
Also, youre using a Laptop, you wouldnt be able to fit them inside your computer afterall. So the logn answer is no.

Addendum to waghlon's answer: if you have a "block" of RAM running at speed X, there's no point in buying a faster one unless you get rid of the previous one. All "blocks" will run at the speed of the slowest one.

Addendum to Issos answer: And the RAM-block using the least voltage would go "fzzzzz" because the motherboard cant supply 1.8v to one block and 2.1v to another, and thus give both 2.1v.

I talked about speed. Mhz. I said nothing about Voltage.

Isso is completely right. I had 1Gb 400Mhz and bought 2Gb 667Mhz two months ago. If I had enough DDR2 slots to have the 3Gb, they all would run at 400Mhz.

Fine, so you can get laptop specific RAM. But giving them too much voltage still break them. I never argued by the speed issue.

You can, no problem. But if you open it, the warranty is void.

next time you want to convert units (currency, temperature, whatever), go to google and type in "404.63 danish kroner to euros" and it'll give you the answer above the search results.

Kroner. That's the word I wanted.
EDIT: The answer is 54€. Not bad, for 1gb Ram to my laptop, but it would need a new graphic card as well.
