it's not just the stars. amateur riders with only as much money as the next middle class person are caught doping all the time in italy.
it's not that expensive.
the very top quality treatments? those are only for the stars. but anyone can dope easily
And more easily if the team helps you...

the EPO in your blood is traceable within a week after injection.
That's not blood doping

for the record his blood couldn't have been injected during the Tour de France, it must have been injected some weeks before to avoid a positive test. Nope, self-transfusions (your own blood) are usually performed on the rest days before the first mountain stages. Check Andreau and Vaughters IM chat to read about it.
Injecting yourself with your own blood can also be traced, that's what Hamilton was caught with at the Olympic Games 2004, isn't it ? |

no, Hamilton was a homologous transfusion (blood from someone else).
An autologous transfusion (your own blood) is hard to trace and most labs don't have the means to do the test, for now at least.
that's what Vinokourov and Kashechkin tested positive for |

Ok about Hamilton and the difficulty to detect an autologous transfusion.
But Vino and Kash were caught with a homologous transfusion, which is totally ridiculous, given that they had about one chance on seven thousands to escape it, and that they could afford autologous doping. Just like if they had injected themselves with each other's blood.
And thanks for the words, I didn't know the English versions. |

I assure you it was autologous in Vino's case.
I remember the explanation on how the test is performed. they analyse the cells themselves and compare the percentage of "new" red blood cells compared to "old" blood cells. |

I belive it was is fathers. And to that Vinokourov answered something like this:
"Then I could have injected me with vodka."

no, somebody said it was his father's (which is stupid. an old man's blood? that wouldn't be smart) and he joked that if that were the case he would've tested positive for Vodka |

Astana had had previous success with this method, transfering blood from the father of the rider, because your blood is almost always nearly identical to your father's blood, it is difficult to detect with dopingtests.
At least that's what the rumour says.

He said ''If that were true I would have tested positive for vodka''.
