i realise this won't go down well with isso, but i can't be bothered starting a new topic
why would it not go down well?
I don't like FIFA because it's extremely arcadey and unrealistic. and that is not a jab at anyone. it's what I as an individual like or don't like. every single person is more than entitled to their tastes!
hopefully they'll have improved FIFA significantly
although, this being EA sports, there's about a 0.001% chance that the game won't be arcade
it's not the big things. it's the little things that form the basis of it all. the mechanics of it.
for instance:
if a player jumps in the air and kicks the ball first time. no matter how awkward his position, or how little room he has to pull his foot back to swing it back at the ball, it will still come out as a normal shot.
in real life, as in PES, if he has little room to bring the leg back, the kick won't be very strong.
I don't know if you get what I mean, but those are the kinds of things that make a gigantic difference for those who get to play PES long enough to realise what it's essence is.
on a completely different note: I read an article on demographics of FIFA vs. the demographics of PES the other day. the FIFA audience is faaaaaaaaar younger. but here's the catch: they've always been.
this doesn't mean the new generations are turning to FIFA. it means all generations have preferred FIFA when they're younger and ISS/PES when they're older.
interesting

take it this way:
can PCM, if improved, one day accurately simulate cycling? of course not. the mechanics, the whole system of play are fundamentally flawed and it will never ever come close. that's the problem I see with FIFA (and all EA sports games).
PES doesn't have that problem. it may seem like a small thing, but it's unbelievable how they managed to do something so difficult from a software achitechture viewpoint. it's not knocking EA. it really is amazing on KONAMI's part to do it. well done to them.

i guess i'll have to buy it (PES) for the PC if i want to have real names though, which is a bit of a bummer as i like playing games like FIFA, PES, Madden, etc. on consoles, but i think i would put up with playing it on the PC if it meant having real names

I find everything about computers just amazing - how we can get so much out of something which, to use an old saying, "we found lying on the ground". It is simply incredible

you can get a real-names option file the very day it's released.
the thing about the PC is getting huge updates. new stadiums, equipments, unbelievably photorealistic faces, etc etc etc. ask CrueTrue what I mean

I find it amazing that just 30 years ago a memory block of 1KB weighed 8Kilos. now it's invisible to the naked eye. the march of technology amazes me.

Its funny how Konami can be so good at this, yet their Tour de France games they made 4-5 years ago were really quite bad.

Or how amazing the first guys to create a computer were. How could they know what an effect it would have. How could they know where to begin. The mind boggles

every game they do except for PES and the unbelievably brilliant Silent Hill 1 sucks immensely
two words:
Shingo Takatsuka. Takatsuka is a veritable genious. he is the definition of the sentence "lives, eats, drinks, breathes football". he decides every single little detail about PES.
he also hires everyday PES players to give him feedback so that his opinion isn't the only one going into it. not to mention he makes a point of plucking the best young software engineers from Japan's universities...

some guy in 1926 or such got a C mark on his essay with the comment from the teacher that:
"your concept of an overnight delivery service is well presented and compelling, but for it to get more than this grade, it would have to be feasible"
he later founded FedEx

Carrying on our wonder of technology, have you seen the new Asimo at Barcelona - it can now run, properly go up and down stairs, recognise (that's right, recognise) household appliances, carry stuff, hold your hand and walk at the same time. What a machine, how incredibly intelligent must the guys be who create it

Usually this would be the time for me to post here the reviews by PS3 magazine on FIFA08 and PES 2008.
however, Addy wouldn't like that, considering the conclusions they've drawn, so suffice it to say:
the reviews are out.
