I follow the races since I was ten years old and I've never seen one so explosive as Cavendish.
Well, as I said before, being the fastest or the most explosive, doesn't make you the best sprinter. I would probably vote Cav if the poll asked for fastest cyclist or most explosive cyclist, but he's not the greatest sprinter for me.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Depends what you class. My point was that using number of wins to determine the best sprinter doesn't exactly work. Sean Kelly had 188 wins, does that make him the better sprinter over Pettachi, Cavs and Mario and others?
Wasn't attackign your points, was simply questioning the 500 wins from Eddy, in pro races
It is 525. Was at the museum Marckx/Ickx last year and there they were, all listed.
I think Amateur victories included (which I think is now U23 or pro without contract). And 6days also included.
But even besides that it's more than 133 pro victories. PCS is not complete concerning older records.
Trofeo Barracchi is just one of the races not on the site. Other victories aren't documented as well, or not yet.
Actually I just found that of his 525 victories, 445 were as a professional cyclist on the road.
Not exactly sure if the track is counted. If so, that's 27 victories. |

Not 100% sure but they don't seem to be listed. |

In the link udoi posted a page back, if you go in under merkcx profile, there is quite a few criteriums. |

Wouldn't know, didn't use that link.
Found this on cycling hall of fame, though. Sort of knew this, but sounds so impressive nonetheless:
1969 through 1975, Merckx won an astounding 35% of races entered. |

I don't doubt that
He was a beast, but i still think a good bit of those 445 was criteriums. He is probably still the most winning rider (in terms of pro wins) |

Exactly.
Also we have to keep in mind that those were other times. Criteriums were very hardly fought for and were real bike races, not easy to win. |

Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I think Nizzolo is the greatest sprinter of all time.
His DQ was a disgrace. He's the fastest and all the others should just get out of the way for him.
Go Nizzolo! |
