Tour Down Under Review - Stages 4 & 5

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_02_PCM0121.jpg

A stage for the sprinters and the big Willunga Hill stage. This is where the race is won or lost!

Stage 4

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0227.jpg

A stage for the sprinters. They will be hoping that a breakaway doesn't stay away today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0229.jpg

Breakaway established. Includes Watson, Jenson, Zielinski, Jelfs and Smirnovs. None of them danger the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0244.jpg

Nasty crash for Nizzolo. He looks badly hurt. Keough and Klemme go back to help him out.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0252.jpg

25km to go. 2 minute gap to the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0258.jpg

The sprint trains. 3km to go and the break is still in front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_04_PCM0271.jpg

1km left for the peloton. Still a few hundred metres behind the breakaway.

And the break steals the win yet again! Its Kamil Zielinski of the Fablok - Dunlop team. Great start the season for them!

Nic Hamilton who was third on GC lost over 3 minutes and losses his great position on GC!

Stage 5

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0283.jpg

The big stage! This is where the GC will be won or lost! Del Nero and Daspuntsag are the leading two however the puncheurs are expected to overtake them today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0286.jpg

The breakaway today includes Busche, Weening, Dyachenko, Feillu and Chiarello. Again none of them are threatening to the GC.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0296.jpg

Grupo Nutresa is making the pace in the peloton just before the first time up Willunga Hill. 40km left and 3 minutes to the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0301.jpg

At the top of the first Willunga Hill climb there is still a 1'30 gap to the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0316.jpg

Attacks in the peloton. They have almost caught the breakaway. Del Nero is seen at the front!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0321.jpg

Just over 1km to go! Some breakaway riders misxed in with the GC favourites. It is still unsure who is leading.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0329.jpg

And here is the answer! It is Feilluof the Fablok - Dunlop squad! This will be amazing if Feillu can take the teams 2nd win!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0331.jpg

Di Maggiois coming fast!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/Tour%20Down%20Under/mg2015_tdu_05_PCM0333.jpg

But its Feillu who takes the 2nd victory for Fablok - Dunlop in a row!! A massive start to the season for that team!

A great race so far! One more stage of the TDU left and it will be a thriller!

This was more like a second review of my team Grin

However you should be really glad for getting this result. Really more vital for you to get a good start, so good to see another CT team doing great Smile Good luck with your season Wink

Great to see you with a top 10 (hopefully top 5) in a C1 race! Couldn't have had a better race at the TDU really.

Great Ocean Road Race Review

Richeze is the favourite with the Sancor Cycling Team. His contendors are Matthews (Compal), Pelucchi (Lierse), Meyer (Fred Whitton) and Corioni (Strava). An outsider for the win is our very own Anthony Giacoppo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Benelux/mg2015_benelux_startlist.jpg

The favourite for the Overall win. Well there are many ways you can calculate it. This race has cobbles so will it be a strong cobbler that is good at hills as well or will it just be a cobbler, or maybe ever just a hill climber. Many ways but in a race like this you just don't know who is in form and who is not.

Same thing with the sprinters however the sprinters can be a little easier to predict. The best sprinters in the race are Meyer, Peeters, Clarke and Kruopis.

Stage 1

The 1st stage is a TT. the 3 favourites and Tennant, Kuboki and Boaro.

Tour of the Middle East - Review

This 12 stage race in the Middle East was a rather a disappointment for us here at Fox Sports. We sent what we thought was a good enough team to get us a top 10 overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_start.jpg

Unfortunately that wasn't the case. With a mix of stages, as you can see below, an exciting race was inevitable.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2/tome_mg.png

The first few stages not a lot happened for the team. Stage 1 was taken out by Kamil Zielinski who showed that Fablok - Dunlop still has great form that has carried since the Tour Down Under. Stage 2 was more exciting with an escaped rider almost taking the stage win but it was once again the sprinter from Fablok - Dunlop, Kamil Zielinski, who took the win. Stage 3 brought one of our riders out of the peloton. Delgerbayar made the jump and joined the two leaders on the road. Unfortunetly he couldn't hang on and dropped off the back and returned to the peloton. On that particular day it was the breakaway that Delgerbayar road up to that took the win. The Kiwi Jack Bauer showed his strength on the 3rd hilly stage in a row.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_3_001.jpg

Stage 4 brought us mountain stage #1 and again Fox Sports - Golomt was not seen. Roe was still close to the front but not close enough to be seen on any cameras. The winner was Gian Piero Signorini from the Indosat - ANZ team. He managed to outsprint Trent Lowe for the win. Stage 5 is the first flat stage. We expected to see Giacoppo near the front but he could only manage 21st place. Daniel Thorsen from the BelarusBank team took the win. Stage 6 is the 2nd flat stage. Today we actually saw Giacoppo at the front of the race following the BelarusBank leadout train. During the sprint he wasn't strong enough and improved on the day before but still only got 14th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_6_002.jpg

The 3rd sprint stage in a row. Giacoppo is once again seen at the front during the sprint. This time he sprints well and fast and has no one blocking his way but can only muster 9th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_7_003.jpg

Back into the mountains for stage 8 now. Roe is a lot more active but is not good enough to mix with the top climbers. The winner is Lowe from the Compal - Merida team. Stage 9 is again in the mountains. The winner of the stage is Bagot from the Verkefnid Iceland team. Giacoppo is forced to retire after finishing outside of the time limit. The 10th stage is a little different. Completely flat start until the end where we shoot straight up! It is Wang from Compal - Merida who takes another win for the team.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_10_008.jpg

The 11th stage is the TT. Roe is a strong individual time trialist and shows that in the stage by coming in 7th place. The winner of the stage is Jakub Novak from the In-n-Out squad.

The final stage of the race is a flat stage. However with not a lot of sprinters still in the race it is anyone's stage to win. Chavanel found himself in the break of the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Middleeast/MG15_Middle_12_001.jpg

The breakaway stays away and it is Lukas Flückiger from the Actavis - DKSH team who takes the win. Chavanel has a great stage and comes in 5th place, which is the 3rd top 10 in the Tour of the Middle East for the team.

One Day Races Review

There have been many One Day Races over the course of the year. We have been involved in 4 so far. Gent - Wevelgem, Dwars Door Vlaanderen, GP Sallanches and Geraardsbergen - Bosberg. 3 of these races were cobbled races and the other a hilly race. Lets take a look at each.

GP Sallanches

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2hc/sal.png

We started off the day in the breakaway with Bertilsson, one of our loaned in riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Sallanches/MG15_Salla_001.jpg

This was as much as we saw of the Fox Sports - Golomt jersey today unfortunately. The win was taken by Jukka Vastaranta of the DeLaval - Kiitokori Cycling team.

Geraardsbergen - Bosberg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2hc/gebo.png

The Geraardsbergen - Bosberg is a CT cobbled race. We had a great showing here. Let's take a closer look.

De Vocht attacking with 87km to go.

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj521/Jihardy/2015-06-08_00010_zpsvtcofdy6.jpg

He joined the breakaway along with Rathe and Malacarne.

Behind all the action up front, on the cobbles an elite group of 8 formed with our very own Gert Steegmans involved!

i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj521/Jihardy/2015-06-08_00018_zps8ygay4tm.jpg

That group joined the front group to make a leading group of 15.

Unfortunetly in the end Strava's Langeveld was too strong and he takes out the win.

We had Delgerbayar get into the breakaway here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/PCT/DwarsDoorVlaanderen/mg2015_dwars_PCM0005.jpg

Throughout the entire race he was at the front of the race. The winner was Stijn Joseph of Lierse SK but in the large group only 1'17 back was Delgerbayar. A great race for Delgerbayar.

And there you have it. The 4 one day races we have taken part in so far in a bomb shell. We did well in 2 of the 4. Our worst race to date though is the Gent - Wevelgem. Other then that though we are quite happy so far!

You aimed for quite some big races and didn't manage to get much out of it. However good to see your going for races you like and hopefully some more surprise results will come, like with Roe in Azerbaijan Wink

Giro del Trentino Review

The Giro del Trentino is entering its 6th edition this year however it has been downgraded to a C2HC status this year. Last years winner was Janez Brajkovic so it always brings a strong competition here to Italy. With 1 TTT, 1 Flat and 3 Mountain stages this race is very exciting!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/profiles/c2hc/tren.png

A really strong field here for the GC. Roe is our GC guy but we aren't expecting a lot from him. We are targetting stage 3 with Giacoppo and Davis. Our main competitors are Compal-Merida with Matthews and Sutton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Trentino/MG15_Trentino_start.jpg

Stage 1

The flat TTT. Akzonobel - Statoil are the favourites and sure enough they won the stage putting their man Wilman in the yellow jersey.

Stage 2

The 2nd stage is the 1st of 3 mountain stages. A very long and steep climb to finish of the day today. The GC won't be decided today but it will give us a rough idea of who is in good form and will contest for the GC.

Tons of attacks going up the climb from Nieve, Girardi, Anacona, Hirt, Novak and many more. The strongest ended up being Mikel Nieve of Indosat-ANZ with a strong final kilometres going up the climb.

Continental Rankings Update #1

The 1st update for the continental rankings have just come in!! We are doing a lot better then we were expected to do. The projection for us was the bottom 2 positions but instead we are coming 19th!!! We had a great showing at the Tour Down Under coming 5th overall. Then we also got a few good finishes the month after with some of the one day cobbled races. We are very happy with how we are going at the moment.

Tour d'Azerbaijan - ROE IN GREAT FORM

The Tour d'Azerbaijan was a real test for the team and our leader TIM ROE. It was only the 3rd C2 race the team has competed in. We sent a strong team to surround ROE with YOANN BARBAS as his wingman with sprinters ALLAN DAVIS and SAM WITMITZ. We were targetting the GC but we also wanted to get some good finishes in the sprint stages.

The first stage was for the sprinters. DAVIS was seen near the front but not close enough to contest for a top 10. Stage 2 was the first of 2 mountain stages. Once again ROE finished well but was unable to get into the top 10. He finished 17th 2'07" behind the winner.

Stage 3 brought us into the final mountain stage and the biggest of the 2. With a big uphill finish and 2 mountains before the final one as well. BARBAS and ROE were both very active. BARBAS attacked with around 60 km to go but got caught so ROE attacked and he was away. He got a lot of mountain points. and was always just that little bit ahead of the peloton. He was caught by the favourites but managed to hang on all the way to the end and even take 4th on the stage and only lose 12 seconds to the winner on the day and move up to 8th overall! He was also in the KOM jersey by 4 points.

The final day was a hilly flat stage. This was won by the breakaway. HUNG of Compal - Merida took the win only metres in front of BLAISE SONNERY. The GC was taken out by VICTOR HUGO OROZCO of the Alpina - Avianca team. ROE stayed in 8th and takes a great top 10 for the team as well as the KOM jersey and 4th on stage 3!

Fox Sports Struggling to find the Top 10

The Rund um den Eschborn-Frankfurt is a German flat one day race that is built for the stronger sprinters. We sent a strong team built around GIACOPPO and STEEGMANS. However, around halfway through the race a large group of riders dropped off including our 3 strong sprinters GIACOPPO, STEEGMANS and TEREUL. That was basically the end of our chance to win the race. DE VOCHT still managed to be present in the sprint without any real sprinter, except WITMITZ, being present in the first group. As you can see in the first picture below DE VOCHT tried to leadout the young Australian however it came to nothing and DE VOCHT only managed to get 13th while WITMITZ took 18th.

Just like the race in Germany the Tour de Taiwan was no different. The team was not present at all until the final stage. MAX LOSCH found himself in a breakaway of 11 riders in a 110km flat stage. The final 4km of the race and most of the break is caught except 2 or 3 riders one of them LOSCH. LOSCH was desperately trying to get the stage win and was only just leading with 1km to go. However, he was soon passed by Matthews who took the stage win for Compal. LOSCH still held on for a fantastic 5th place and ended the drought of not getting inside the top 10 for Fox Sports - Golomt Cycling!

Fox Sports in Scotland

The Tour of Scotland is a 6 day stage race around the roads of Scotland. The race this year had 4 flat stages, 1 hilly stage and 1 mountain stage to close out the race. TIM ROE is our leader for this race with the held of CHAVANEL and DASPUNTSAG. GIACOPPO is here for the sprints as well as STEEGMANS and TEREUL.

The first stage brought a close finish. GIACOPPO was there in the final sprint but could only manage 15th place. The stage went to Aleksandr Serebriakov who narrowly beat out Anthony Lavoine and Juan Pablo Forero. Stage 2 was an even flatter stage then day one. To the sprint and GIACOPPO has a fantastic place being on the wheel of yellow jersey holder Serebriakov. The Russian was just far too strong for everyone though and takes the victory by 3 bike lengths! Lavoine takes another 2nd but 3rd today is a very strong GIACOPPO! A fantastic finish by the Australian!

Stage 3 is the first hilly stage. DASPUNTSAG enters the breakaway for the team. In the end though it is Strava's Pfingsten who takes the win and the GC. TIM ROE comes in 17th 1'56" behind. Stage 4 is again flat. GIACOPPO is not seen until 1km to go and comes in 25th place. The winner is Anthony Lavoine if Fablok - Dunlop. Stage 5 is won by Matej Jurco of the OTP Bank - Slovnaft team. DASPUNTSAG does well and comes in 10th place. Into the mountains now for the final stage. A big day for Sodexo Procycling as they take their first stage victory and GC Victory! Nabil Baz is the rider. ROE comes 24th on this stage and finishes 21st on GC.

A fantastic ride from Sodexo on the last day to take the GC by over 1 minute. Congratulations to that team. Below are some images of the race.

CT Rankings Update #2

The 2nd update of the CT Rankings has finally come out. We are doing a lot better then everybody thought we would sitting comfortably 3 quarters down the table. Leading at the moment with a big start to the year is Compal - Merida just edging out Indosat - ANZ. Strava is sitting in a nice 3rd place with Sancor and Alpina finishing up the top 5 and the promotion positions.

At the bottom of the table is Sodexo with only 65 points gained so far this year. One spot ahead of them is Team Type 1 only 8 points ahead. 3rd last we have Akzonobel - Statoil. The next 2 teams are Fred Whitton Race Team and Elta - Hellenic Post finishing the bottom 5 of the CT Rankings.

Alakagom
Great job keeping your HQ updated, not an easy thing, particularly when your team is doing so-so. Keep it going, next year you have a solid base to build to challenge for top spots.
