@Martial Yeah. Cav really couldn't challenge him, which surprised me a little.
@Sutty He'll really need that coming in to MSR, because it's a win goal.

Profile
I think everybody knows the profile. The race should be quiet untile we reach the Cipressa, but possibly race winning attacks will most likely come on the Poggio. We hope to keep it all together and let Greipel take the sprint. We also have Vanendert to cover the moves on the hills.
We begann setting the tempo, but of course a very slow one. No ned to exhaust anyone too early in a race as long as this.
As usual, everything was quiet on the first 250km. With 40km to go, Stannard tried a sneaky move.
We were having none of it though, and soon he was caught.
As we hit the Cipressa, Langeveld gave it a go. In front of him, you can see parts of the early break.
Again it didn't stick, and in the descent, our very own Tony Gallopin gave it a try.
That didn't stick either, but shortly before the Poggio, Leukemans went. He was quickly gaining time, this could be a race decider...
Over the top of the Poggio, he had a gap of roughly half a minute. This would be a real task, how should we catch him?
As we hit the flat after the downhill, things got very chaotic. It was basically everybody sprinting for himself for second. We tried to form a lead out for Greipel , but it didn't really work out.
Suddenly, we could all see Leukemans . We all knew this was for the win now. It looked like Sagan had it, with Boassson Hagen approaching from behind. Meanwhile, I was the teams best placed rider, at about 5th position.
Suddenly, a load of riders came from nowhere. Like Greipel ! I was fading though.
Greipel was giving it his all, but it was clearly only enough for a podium. The battle for the win was between Sagan and Boasson Hagen , and it was a close one!
The Norwegian took it in the end, while Greipel finished third. I fell well back in the end, but still finished the first monument of my season in a good 15th.

Did Lotto use too much energy trying to keep the race together?

Simphiwe must have a comical CQ score for a neopro less than three months into his pro career.

it's his third year as pro
He rode two years at MTN before changing teams and this was the point where the story started

@Steve Yeah, a bit. Our guys were all over the place, so it was pretty much everyone for himself in the end. Just not enough time after the Poggio to get a lead-out started.
@Sutty Sadly, no. A podium is still good though, and Sagan was always going to be the man to beat. How EBH won it I don't know though.
@Zinoviev Yeah, he's leading the rankings, I think. As Knockout said though, it's his third year as pro. So it's not that crazy really, especially since Bongo and the nationals were his big target.

Here we go, the big test ahead of De Ronde. All the big guns are here, and everybody is eager to show who's boss before the monuments. We'll try and keep the race together as good as possible for Roelandts , and, if possible, Greipel too.
In the early phases, it was us and OPQS controlling the race. Trek where nowhere to be seen.
Vansummeren was the first of the outsiders to attack as soon as the cobbles started. No panic though, he isn't the strongest anymore.
But shortly after he was joined by one of the big favourites, Sagan . This might be a big move after all.
They caught up to the break of the day soon enough. Now it was time for the peleton to up the pace.
Cancellara went! This was a big, big move, about 25 kilometres from the finish. No team was quick to react, and OPQS were nowhere to be seen at all.
It took a good five kilometres for Terpstra to set off in pursuit. Now the chasing was left to us.
Soon after, another favourite attacked with Vanmarcke . Now we had a real Hercules task ahead of us.
Vanmarcke was the first we could catch again. Terpstra was still possible, but it would be really hard to get Cancellara . And up front, it was a two man battle between mid stage attackers Vansummeren and Sagan .
We were about to catch Terpstra , and Cancellara wasn't too far ahead anymore either. Less than 10km to go though, so it would be tight.
Just as we caught Cancellara , Sagan took an easy win up front. Now Greipel would need to sprint for third, while I was hanging on for dear life at the end of the group.
I was too busy concentrating on myself, so no pic for it, but Greipel took fifth in the end, while I just about hung on to the second big group. All in all, this was about as good as it'll get for us on the cobbles this season.
