Looks like Greipel has some good form Smile

Dippofix
@Martial Yeah. Cav really couldn't challenge him, which surprised me a little.

@Sutty He'll really need that coming in to MSR, because it's a win goal.

On current form i think Greipel should really be looking forward to riding Milan San Remo Wink

I think everybody knows the profile. The race should be quiet untile we reach the Cipressa, but possibly race winning attacks will most likely come on the Poggio. We hope to keep it all together and let Greipel take the sprint. We also have Vanendert to cover the moves on the hills.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0915_39_58-Greenshot_zpsb17139d6.jpg

We begann setting the tempo, but of course a very slow one. No ned to exhaust anyone too early in a race as long as this.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_01_22-Greenshot_zpsfacebe80.jpg

As usual, everything was quiet on the first 250km. With 40km to go, Stannard tried a sneaky move.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_03_27-Greenshot_zps734cf20c.jpg

We were having none of it though, and soon he was caught.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_04_34-Greenshot_zpsef937c34.jpg

As we hit the Cipressa, Langeveld gave it a go. In front of him, you can see parts of the early break.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_06_00-Greenshot_zpscf87a162.jpg

Again it didn't stick, and in the descent, our very own Tony Gallopin gave it a try.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_07_20-Greenshot_zpsaede48fd.jpg

That didn't stick either, but shortly before the Poggio, Leukemans went. He was quickly gaining time, this could be a race decider...

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_08_39-Greenshot_zpsa01b267e.jpg

Over the top of the Poggio, he had a gap of roughly half a minute. This would be a real task, how should we catch him?

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_10_28-Greenshot_zps8d299607.jpg

As we hit the flat after the downhill, things got very chaotic. It was basically everybody sprinting for himself for second. We tried to form a lead out for Greipel, but it didn't really work out.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_10_51-Greenshot_zpsb4e06a59.jpg

Suddenly, we could all see Leukemans. We all knew this was for the win now. It looked like Sagan had it, with Boassson Hagen approaching from behind. Meanwhile, I was the teams best placed rider, at about 5th position.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_11_02-Greenshot_zps0b8706f4.jpg

Suddenly, a load of riders came from nowhere. Like Greipel! I was fading though.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_11_15-Greenshot_zps22384ffc.jpg

Greipel was giving it his all, but it was clearly only enough for a podium. The battle for the win was between Sagan and Boasson Hagen, and it was a close one!

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/MSR/2014-06-0916_11_38-Greenshot_zps60a2b492.jpg

The Norwegian took it in the end, while Greipel finished third. I fell well back in the end, but still finished the first monument of my season in a good 15th.

Did Lotto use too much energy trying to keep the race together?

it's his third year as pro Wink
He rode two years at MTN before changing teams and this was the point where the story started Wink

@Steve Yeah, a bit. Our guys were all over the place, so it was pretty much everyone for himself in the end. Just not enough time after the Poggio to get a lead-out started.

@Sutty Sadly, no. A podium is still good though, and Sagan was always going to be the man to beat. How EBH won it I don't know though.

@Zinoviev Yeah, he's leading the rankings, I think. As Knockout said though, it's his third year as pro. So it's not that crazy really, especially since Bongo and the nationals were his big target.

EBH winning Milan San Remo is certainly the shock of the season so far Rolling Eyes

Here we go, the big test ahead of De Ronde. All the big guns are here, and everybody is eager to show who's boss before the monuments. We'll try and keep the race together as good as possible for Roelandts, and, if possible, Greipel too.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_42_49-Greenshot_zpsbb17deda.jpg

In the early phases, it was us and OPQS controlling the race. Trek where nowhere to be seen.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_44_54-Greenshot_zps4ba76781.jpg

Vansummeren was the first of the outsiders to attack as soon as the cobbles started. No panic though, he isn't the strongest anymore.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_46_02-Greenshot_zps62217a55.jpg

But shortly after he was joined by one of the big favourites, Sagan. This might be a big move after all.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_54_01-Greenshot_zps75345e94.jpg

They caught up to the break of the day soon enough. Now it was time for the peleton to up the pace.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_56_21-Greenshot_zps474a661c.jpg

Cancellara went! This was a big, big move, about 25 kilometres from the finish. No team was quick to react, and OPQS were nowhere to be seen at all.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_57_58-Greenshot_zpsd7b163db.jpg

It took a good five kilometres for Terpstra to set off in pursuit. Now the chasing was left to us.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1013_59_09-Greenshot_zps4505f03c.jpg

Soon after, another favourite attacked with Vanmarcke. Now we had a real Hercules task ahead of us.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1014_02_50-Greenshot_zps91a85999.jpg

Vanmarcke was the first we could catch again. Terpstra was still possible, but it would be really hard to get Cancellara. And up front, it was a two man battle between mid stage attackers Vansummeren and Sagan.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1014_04_21-Greenshot_zps53d8d20b.jpg

We were about to catch Terpstra, and Cancellara wasn't too far ahead anymore either. Less than 10km to go though, so it would be tight.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1014_05_31-Greenshot_zps0287a198.jpg

Just as we caught Cancellara, Sagan took an easy win up front. Now Greipel would need to sprint for third, while I was hanging on for dear life at the end of the group.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Simphiwe/WT%20Cobbles/2014-06-1014_05_57-Greenshot_zpsc1bdbc10.jpg

I was too busy concentrating on myself, so no pic for it, but Greipel took fifth in the end, while I just about hung on to the second big group. All in all, this was about as good as it'll get for us on the cobbles this season.

Greipel flying the flag for the team at the moment Wink

Dippofix
@Sutty He sure is! That was always going to be the case though, with only Roelandts, Van den Broeck and maybe Vanendert other regular points scorers.

Also, this story is now officially on hold. To the few faithful followers that I actually have: Fear not! It's only till sunday, when I get back from Ireland. Wink
