Yep, all that is very true.
Indurain was one of the first EPO champions, a heavy guy who could suddenly climb as well as genuine climbers, and beat records on the flat.
Also his super talent showed up quite late, he was already a pro for a couple of years when he appeared as a potential Tour de France winner, though he was hardly a top 10 contender one or two years before.
The difference between Indurain two years before his first TDF victory (25 years old) and his first TDF victory (27) is the difference between a man using EPO and one racing without the heavy stuff...
...actually, if Indurain hadn't been riding for Delgado in 1990, he would've been a podium contender that year. Also, Greg Lemond was a guy who could break records on the flat, as well as climb with the best.
But then again, Lemond could also compete in Paris-Roubaix. The times when top riders would compete in both mountains and on cobbles may be long gone? |

True for the last sentence we're in an era of specialising.
LeMond could do all that, yes, but he was much lighter than Indurain if I remind well. I'd say LeMond weighed 65-70 kg, whereas Indurain probably weighed 10 more kg.
It's quite shocking to see heavy dudes climb as well as pure climbers. |

Question for everyone... who do you think the was the last TDF winner to race clean?
I'm not sure about Pereiro... but if you count Landis being caught and stripped as the winner being doped that year, I'd probably guess Lemond. Does anyone think someone after was clean... or that Lemond might have been doped? |

if there was ever a clean Tour winner, then it's Lemond. |

Does anyone think someone after was clean... or that Lemond might have been doped? Pareiro might be Urko in Operacion Puerto, he's got medical authorisations to take heavy stuff for asthma, etc. Not really the guy I'd trust...
I agree with Brun, if there ever was a clean TDF winner for 30 years, then LeMond is that one.
Contador (2007) : OP, Saiz dude, Buyneel dude, irrealistic wattages, enough is said.
Pereiro (2006) : see above
Armstrong (1999 to 2005) : uh, well...
Pantani (1998) : he died from it
Ullrich (1997) : took 10 years to catch him for good, but eventually he got caught
Riis (1996) : same as above, except that he was already retired
Indurain (1991 to 1995) : Miguel "EPO" Indurain, trained by Ferrari, etc.
LeMond (1986, 89, 90) : can't find much to reproach him, so he gets the benefit of the doubt. I wish I can trust him.
Delgado (1988) : was caught as well, though cleared by the Olympic Commity
Roche (1987) : don't know him well enough...
Hinault (1978, 79, 81, 82, 85) : *pukes* there was no EPO yet, but he had all the other stuff most likely
Fignon (1983, 84) : was caught in his later years
Zootemelk (1980) : no idea...
And that's it for 2000's, 90's and 80's. |

Isnt it a bit selfish by Levi? Wouldnt it make more sense to do a Let Astana Ride petition? If he wants to ride so much Im sure he could just switch teams.

What would people rather support - a well liked American rider, or a Kazakh team linked heavily with doping?

he is probably their most 'credible' rider. Its also a U.S based petition, so it makes sense its all about podium finisher Levi. |

If I remember correctly the investigations by Italian authorities on Dr. Conconi concluded that Roche had taken EPO in the last years of his carreer, not sure though. He quit racing in 93 or 94 |

you're quite right. the evidence was pretty conclusive too.

I have a hard time believing that anyone has won the Tour without medicaments. Is it even possible?
About the exclusion, Danish press interviewed Pat McQuaid yesterday. He was asked: "Will this be the final battle between UCI and ASO?", he answered: "Yes, that's very likely"
= Tour de France will be degraded to French national calendar? |
