I thought cycling in the Netherlands didn't need good TdF-results in order to be noticed?

Yeah. It's something like this(random numbers though):
200,000 notice every nice Dutch result, 1,000,000 every nice Dutch result in the big races, 5,000,000 in the TdF
Feyenoord(football) and Kelderman fanboy
PCMdaily Awards: 12x nomination, 9x runner-up, 0x win.

But still, it has done a lot here. There was a lot of attention for them. Or do you disagree about that?
well no great maketing time for Belkin but since it was massively overrated I don't care too much
Well basicly it was the best time for Belkin if you look at marketing. They just started to sponsor and the riders showed themselve. Most people in the Netherlands only knew about a new sponsor when they saw it in the TdF, in the Netherlands a lot of people watch the TdF but not a lot watch cycling. And yes it is massively overrated, but that's with everything in the Netherlands, we love sports and we love to support our teams, once a dutchman does something good or performs well then it's like everyone feels united and supports that person or team. Sporting has a great influence on the Netherlands, and especially the big tournaments like the WC in Football, Wimbledeon with Tennis, Olympic games. And TdF for cycling.
So more less 200.000 for races like the ZLM Tour, 500.000 Eneco, 2.000.000 AMG, pretty much 5.000.000 Giro/ Vuelta and us much as 10.000.000 TdF, but that's not watching all stages but following the GC (These results really depend on dutch riders performing well, in 2012 it was like 7.500.000)

Why do I have this feeling that cycling in the Netherlands is something to just below football? I mean that as an exxageration, of course, but you get my point.

To be honest I can't really understand your question, sorry. But the most popular sport in NL is Football for sure. I cycle U16 CAT and most boys I cycle with a lot of them played football before cycling. So the most popular sports to perform are
1. Football
2. Fitness
3. Hockey
But to watch it is
1. Football
2. Cycling
3. Tennis/Darts
Probably the main reason for this is that cycling is expensive and it's not really something children of e.g. 10 years are thinking about. They say football because that's what most of their friends do. There are ofcourse some children who already cycle at young age but you can clearly see that after 13 years the categories increase in size because children don't want to sport what their friends do but what they like. |

Agreed.
Though you could add Ice Skating in both Top 3s as well. But of course, that's seasonal, so I understand why it's not in the Top 3s(whether you made the Top 3 or you have it from a source doesn't matter then).

Ye it's also very popular but you can definately see that its popularity with children is shrinking and it's a seasonal sport so that's why it isn't in the top3 but you guessed that already |

I seriously was't aware this is thing. To me darts is a café sport, but apparently it's quite popular. A whole new world opens for me. |

Well, most people (also in the Netherlands) are beer drinking, obese people. So they like darts. Obvious.

I went on a rugby tour to the Netherlands last year and played two teams that was pretty fun. Why are you guys so big?
