Nice result in the TourMed, hope you can get a wildcard as well. Vuelta should definitely be possible.

Great race. 6th well, when you lookat the 5 first names....

You could have ask HELP! from Michelle when your DS acted like...a profesionnal Grin
Hope you can see her again, Haut Var isn't that far... By he way doesn't she have a kind of accent?

Shonak
Nice performance by Henry. Glad that his teammates stand by his side when it truly matters. Top 10 and 4th in Continental ranking. Way to go.
I think Henry will have something to talk about with Radio B in the interview tomorrow, and I don't mean the race... Wink

Henry rode well in the Med to get his sixth place on the GC, hopefully there will be more to come from him in the coming weeks Smile

Jeselyh - I was quite surprised at the result actually Wink must be a combination of good early form and nationality bonus.

Selwink - We're really crossing our fingers for the Vuelta. We don't have a lot left, so Vuelta is main goal now!

duxili - Absolutely. Looking at who's in front of him, but also who he left behind, it's been a pretty great race. Imagine were he'd be if it weren't for that time trial... He should've asked for HELP indeed Pfft

Shonak - Radio B will have fun with Henry, I reckon Wink Augustyn was of great value during the final stage. Henry will be sure to repay the favor one of these days!

sutty68 - Thanks, I hope so, too! First it's Haut Var, so who knows what'll happen there Wink

Next update will be the segment with Radio B, I reckon. Might do it tonight!

Hi!

A third race for this neopro, a third race in France! I'm really happy that the team management assigned me to all these early season French races. Vuelta a Murcia will be my first international race!

Radio B
I received a message from Radio B. They told me they would be airing my profile in about three days, so I'll report back to you as soon as I hear it! I guess it'll be between Haut Var and Murcia!

Tour du Haut Var - Stage 1
imageshack.us/a/img441/820/rey8.jpg
A pretty hilly stage. Tour du Haut Var only has 2 stages, which makes for a very interesting race. I don't expect anything but it would be nice to have a go at another mountain jersey. I will definitely ride aggressively here!

The Race
You will find that I am a man of my word. I was good and rested from Tour Med so I was ready for more action. An entire day of sitting back in the peloton, not my style!

imageshack.us/a/img21/2349/eae6.jpg

Only one man joined in on the action, unfortunately. John Murphy was my mate for the day!

imageshack.us/a/img542/8626/214k.jpg

Fighting for intermediate sprints with two is truly a fun thing to do. I won the first round, not very easily, though!

imageshack.us/a/img29/5344/ro13.jpg

Round 2 was for the American, no competition.

imageshack.us/a/img208/3026/bnde.jpg

The peloton gave us a lead of more than 10 minutes, which is quite a lot! At the first KoM checkpoint, my big goal for the day, I threw a little bomb, attacking 1.6 kilometers before the checkpoint.

imageshack.us/a/img40/1038/0tx1.jpg

Murphy didn't find his way back to my wheel. It was too late in the race to wait for him, so I was forced to face the rest of the way all alone.

imageshack.us/a/img849/3352/51vx.jpg

It seemed the big teams in the peloton were playing some kind of bluff poker, I don't know. All I know is that I still had over 2 minutes at 10 kilometers to go. Maybe there was more to this than just the mountain jersey today?

imageshack.us/a/img689/830/8ftt.jpg

The last time, I was in disbelief. I didn't expect what was happening and it only sunk in hours later. This time was totally different.

I turned that final corner and saw the mass of people waiting there, just for me. They were waving flags, cheering, taking pictures. This time I was able to enjoy it. I just put my arms up and started smiling uncontrollably. I loved everyone there, I wanted to thank every single person showing up here! I wished the moment would never end.

imageshack.us/a/img819/5631/6fea.jpg
imageshack.us/a/img802/9859/v80g.jpg

Only after the finish line, my legs gave in. But it didn't matter. I did it again! This time in an entire different fashion, but I did it! I'm not even two months into my first professional year and I've got my second professional win! And I really feel I deserved it today!

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
I don't know what to tell you. It's all a little too much for this 21 year old. I never thought I'd get that second victory so soon, and especially not by going in the daily break. But you'll never know when life throws you a good spin. All you can do is take the chance with both hands and never let go.

Thanks for being here with me,
Henry

Selwink - It sure was Grin

krisa - Thanks! It was unexpected but nice!

duxili - Well, stage 2 is still there to be raced, but Henry should be able to keep that lead! Winning Haut Var would be a major achievement for him!

Have to say I'm pretty happy with those 2 victories already. Never expected them and both on ways I couldn't win if I really tried to do it that way Pfft
It appears Henry has a talent for being in the right place on the right time!

sutty68 - That's the plan. It won't be easy, with Voeckler, Quintana and others here, but we can try!

Shonak - He really is! Talk about a great early form Smile

Hi!

It was a massively important day for me. In a two-day stage race, I was defending my lead that I had built up by taking the victory in the first stage. On a tough, hilly terrain, I was in for a world of pain.

Tour du Haut Var - Stage 2
imageshack.us/a/img546/8573/xdyw.jpg
Well, not an easy day. Plenty of chances for people to try and attack. Our entire team will have to work hard all day, I hope they do their best for me. I would do so for them!

The Race
Everyone was present to help at the front. Citigroup is a group of friends, more so than anything else. I felt incredibly grateful to the team, seeing how hard they worked for me today.

imageshack.us/a/img208/2044/f5s8.jpg

Especially since it wasn't an easy task today. The 9-man breakaway was very strong and held a fast pace all day long.

imageshack.us/a/img27/9511/1kc4.jpg

Our boys really rode their hearts out, though. The wind was against us most of the time, too, which didn't make things any easier.

imageshack.us/a/img833/9556/r77i.jpg

Here's the ultimate proof of how hard everyone was riding. The peloton split up with more than 90 kilometers left to go. All those groups were left behind.

imageshack.us/a/img513/6287/ja7l.jpg

All was under control, until Ian Bibby, the very last man, had taken his final turn. We were still 20 kilometers from the finish. I had to change my tactic now. When an Euskaltel rider attacked, I tried to jump with him. I had no time to think, I had to act, I was isolated!

imageshack.us/a/img543/5117/iwxo.jpg

Thomas Voeckler saw the chance to take me out and attacked. I was unable to follow. He is a class above me.

imageshack.us/a/img96/7744/4y27.jpg

I was pulling hard to bring him back, or at least to limit the time loss. I followed at about a minute. I didn't have many seconds to spare! I had to keep going.

imageshack.us/a/img690/2455/6aqw.jpg

Luckily some guys really helped in the chase, I guess they had a spot at stake, too. But we didn't bring back Voeckler. In fact, he didn't even lose a second.

imageshack.us/a/img834/3083/0u2d.jpg

I crossed the finish line a minute later, saving my jersey. But I didn't even have the energy to smile, I was completely empty.

imageshack.us/a/img716/4939/uwk9.jpg

After catching my breath, they told me to get ready for the podium. I asked them for a couple of minutes. I waited for my team mates to come in. When four had come in two minutes later, I wanted to thank them but I couldn't say a word, so we hugged and smiled. I couldn't hold off the podium ceremony any longer, so I'd see the rest of the team and thank them after the podium ceremony. Drinks are on me tonight!

And I also conquered my first and hopefully not last Young Jersey!

Analysis & Daily Thoughts
Unbelievable, that about sums it up for me. This weekend has been wild and unreal, but it really happened. I had to pinch myself on the ride home the next day. First the peloton made a wrong call and I benifited with a stage win, then I was able to defend my jersey. And on top of that, the entire team and staff went out to celebrate that very night. I thanked everyone personally, like a thousand times, but I meant it every single time. I could have never survived that day without everyone on the team.

Flash interview:
Henry Vergnaud, you must be happy the race is over?
Oh, I really am! Today was such a hard day. I'm so happy that the team worked as hard as they did to keep this jersey around my shoulders. And now we took it home.
It looked pretty bad there for a minute. You were isolated and everyone looked like the wanted to take advantage of that.
I can't say I blame them. It did look grim for a moment, but I took control of the pace and just tried to keep everyone from attacking. I was riding on adrenaline mostly, though. I'll feel it in the morning [laughs]
You're from Brittany, young, attacking, smart and on top of that you're born on 14 July, the French national holiday. How popular are you already?
I really have no idea about that. It's not like I get recognized at the supermarket or anything, so far no problems there. [laughs]
I'm certain the viewers would like to know, will we be seeing you in the Tour de France 2013?
Unfortunately, our team did not achieve in obtaining a wildcard for the Tour. But I promise we will be there in 2014.
You have to go to the podium ceremony now, so until we meet again, this was George Lebest with winner of the Tour du Haut Var 2013, Henry Vergnaud!

Winning a stage race in France only two months into my first professional year is beyond anything I could've imagined. I've taken a blitzstart of my career here. Now it's up to me to improve my level and keep growing stronger! I want to show that this was not just an accident!

Wildcards

Thanks to our recent results from the squad, we have been successful in obtaining 2 wild cards for the first part of the season! They are not just any race, though. We will be participating in Milan - San Remo (after a doping scandal, a team dropped out, so we've been granted the spot) and Liège - Bastogne - Liège!

The team management will decide on who's going later on, though a few of us have earned a spot, they said. Pinotti, Bibby and myself are on the team sheet for both races if we want. Zabel can start in Milan. The rest of the spots will be fought for in the next few races. I'm really excited about racing 2 monuments!

My Personal Rankings

The rankings look incredible right now. Thanks to my victory here, I've moved up big time in both the Continental and the CQ rankings!
