I'm just thinking out loud here but when comparing Froome to Quintana on cobbles, shouldn't we be considering their height and weight? Froome is taller and heavier which, if I am not mistaken, gives something of an advantage on cobbles as you exert more downward pressure to keep stability. In fact I can't think of any really good lightweight cobblestone riders at the moment. Of course bike handling plays a huge role (Wiggins here would have been fuuuun) but there are other factors.

Look who finished 25th
Oh wow, that is not what I would expect. Then again he was a prologue rider in those days so probably more suited to the stronger short-term efforts that you need.
IIRC, we talked about this a while ago. In the end, someone posted a picture of Wiggins after the race. The transformation to GC rider was complete as far I remember. |

He looks like he's just released from a concentration camp. |

P-R is like a concentration camp to be fair XD.
Thomas is pretty good on cobbles and will go Tour, and they will prolly take Bernie too. Stannard is good on cobbles also, and will probably go again. EBH is pretty strong over cobbles too. Thats 4 really solid cobblers and 3 of them went tour this year, so I don't see Sky having a massive problem there. |

Well, Stannard hasn't signed a new contract yet, has he?
Also, none of those are really top-class.

Yeah, but neither are the other GC riders or teams.
The only one who might make a killing on that stage GC wise is Kwiat. Because his pretty good on cobbles himself and rides for OPQ. Funny that Uran signed to lead TdF and wont get to now XD.
I actually think Kwiat could be Froomes biggest threat next year (not just because of the cobble stage but his all round ability). |

Kwiat? No way... There are (quick estimation) 14 riders who can climb mountains better than him on Le Tour next year, and he won't grab enough time back on the hills and the cobbled stage. Nah, a Top 10 might be in it for him, not more.
But allright, who knows how long he can keep developing?

I'd say it's very unlikely too, and then I think, last year this year, would anyone predict him to finish 4th Tirreno or 11th Tour? Yea...

Of course, of course...
You can't be sure of his development... But I could really not see him being the main contender of Froome. Really...

For sure. No one will beat Froome next year. That's almost guaranteed. Sky learned their mistakes, no splitting teams for Giro, the main and best team will go to Tour. Bar crashes Froome should win.

Boonen on Tour + Kwiatek with decent cobbles handling + some more domestiques like Stybar, Terpstra = OPQS wreak havoc on cobbled stage

This just gets me even more excited. Stage 1 goes past my house and finishes in Harrogate, which I go to everyday. Should be brilliant.
Cobbles should be good, and also a couple of good mountain stages which should be fun to watch. A good route overall for me. Should give Quintana or Nibali at least a chance against Froome.
I think I know where you're from now. |

Jesleyh, who's your top 15 then?
Quick brainstorm of better guys (not all riding tour)
Froome
Quintana
Rodriguez
Valverde
Contador
Kreuziger
Ten Dam
Mollema (best of them all d'uh)
Nibali
Horner?
Uran
Sami Sanchez?
Horner and Sanchez probably not, and I can't think of anyone else. That's 10 guys, not 14 BOOOM. |

Porte
Martin.........can't climb the high mountains as well IMO
Horner....... Not really, and he'll only get worse
Roche.........he really struggled in the high mountains, didn't deserve high vuelta place IMO
Henao...... Normally I'd mention him, but in the vuelta, stunningly disappointing
Pinot.........Uhhh good point
Sanchez......not that good, and getting worse
Evans..........see above
Scarponi.......see above
Nieve..........close but not on a GC level
Majka.........see above
25 guys there who are at his level or better.

Yet you only cut it to 12 or 13. I get you're a fan, and I am as well. But Kwiatkowski isn't an amazing climber. He's good but requires improvement. |

I'm not really a fan, just saying he's a good guy. Don't forget this is climbing, and Kwiatkowsky will destroy basically everyone in there for the ITT. And half of them won't. Turn up for fear of getting smashed. |

You even forgot Rolland, Van Den Broeck and (maybe not anymore, not sure) Voeckler.
EDIT: Oh and De Gendt when he feels like it.

@The Hobbit Of course, on hills, Kwiat is great, on TT, he's very good as well, but he hasn't proved enough for me on long climbs.
From the guys you just disagreed with Jph, I still see those as better climbers:
Betancur, Fuglsang, Horner, Evans, Scarponi, Niemiec & Majka.
Of course, Kwiatkowski is superior on hills over quite some of the list jph posted, but simply not on longer climbs.
And what @Ian said, except Voeckler.
