Stage 2 saw us with 2 main goals. Main goal was to keep a rider in the Top 10 in the standings, preferably the Top 5. We also wanted to keep Ramiro French in the mountain jersey a little longer.
There is race leader B. Sullivan of Phillips hoping to hold onto the jersey, while we have Ramiro French sporting the green polka dots.
Early in the race we had plenty of action. No breakaway attempts were successful, the leader of Citigroup - Cannondale wrecked his bike sending half the team back for him, and not one single person challenged for the first sprint. Through all of that, Phillips is protecting their leader at the front of the peleton.
Finally, about 1/4 through the race, we have 3 riders make a break for it, and separate themselves from the main group. Phillips & Sunkist remain at the front of the peleton to do the chasing, which is a 4:15 lead with 50km to go.
Just as soon as I thought I said we had the front of the peleton with Phillips, BP & Lamborghini storm up to the front and now lead the chase. French is still determined to win the mountain sprint, but it is not looking good as he is tiring early.
We get to the top of the hill, and on the way up of this climb 2 riders used all the energy they had left and broke away from the peleton, who had just caught the breakaway. Most of Sunkist is starting to die, and French only came on 10th on this climb, so he will get no points.
The break is starting to speed down the hill, and the 2 riders separate themselves from each other also, leaving Sunkist's Adam Casey breaking from the peleton for 3rd.
Ryan Eastman of Renfe Cycling will take the stage today!
Casey had no problem in his sprint though, he will secure 3rd place and will keep good position in the overall classification.
All of our team managed to stay in the peleton or better today, I am so proud of these guys and their effort.
I am very pleased with Aaron Lawson's efforts thus far. I truly believe that he is a hidden gem and with 2 Top 10 finishes in a row, he is a very promising rider in my eyes.

Stage 3 is coming up very soon. Sunkist is hoping to get the first win ever in the team's history, and stay in contention for a podium spot! We are very happy with the success we are having thus far, even though we have not won yet.
PCM.Daily NFL Fantasy Football Champion: 2012 PCM.Daily NHL Prediction Game Champion: 2013 PCM.Daily NFL Prediction Game Champion: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021
Hey guys, what a stage we had today, so let me get straight to the report!
The leader of the race so far will start the day near the rear of the field today.
A couple riders attack early, and Ramiro French wanted to get the mountain jersey back, so he will join the break today. As we approach the mountain sprint, it looks like the day will be spoiled for French, who will finish the climb in 2nd, and is now tied for the lead in the mountain category.
A little further down the road, the break officially broke from the field, 5 riders in all, sustaining a 2:00 lead with 110km left.
Ramiro is feeling real good today he said, and as the break holds a 4:00 lead, French attacks within the break to win BOTH sprints today, and now the break has a 5:00 lead with 75km left, and a 4:30 lead with 55km left.
At the peleton where the chase is taking place, and Sunkist is not going to help with the effort today, as Ramiro French still has a slim shot at a stage win, if he does it right. Hummel & Walmart are doing the charging today.
Now as the hills continue, riders are beginning to fall back including points leader S. Ramirez from T-Mobile.
We have now reached as far North of Louisiana as we will go, and now the loop will move southward for the next stage. The 5 rider break has a 3:20 lead with 35km left, and the break is attacking inside the break.
French is making his move now! If he wants to do anything, he will have to do it alone.
In the peleton, the size of the field keeps getting smaller and smaller, and more riders are falling off the back.
The break is completely split now with the peleton surging ahead. Each rider now has their own time gap back to the field, and French leads the race by 2:00 with 20km left.
10KM left in the race! French is the only rider left in the break, the peleton has a 1:00 gap to fill with 18km left, French will make one last effort to escape the slip stream that is the peleton.
We are down to 5KM to go, the lead is 45 seconds, it is going to be a VERY close finish, I can smell our first victory, but will I taste it?
The peleton is sprinting now with 1km to go, there is still a 15 second lead, French has absolutely no energy left, he is just riding to the line, the sprinters are here, they are passing French, but they just could not get it done before Ramiro French crosses that white line, and brings home a win!
This is remarkable, Sunkist looks great on the podium!!
Nobody thought that Sunkist would be this successful already, let alone from French, he was the 5th best rider on the team coming in, and he will wear the Points jersey tomorrow, while also being tied in the Mountain category.

Well, we are 2nd place in the yearly standings, although we are just getting started, this is a great start. We may not be in the running for a GC anymore, but we are leading the points & mountain categories, which is still worth points in the end. That is our ultimate goal of the season.
Enough about that, I am thrilled that we finally won a race, and I cant wait for stage 4 now, can we make it 2 in a row??
PCM.Daily NFL Fantasy Football Champion: 2012 PCM.Daily NHL Prediction Game Champion: 2013 PCM.Daily NFL Prediction Game Champion: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021
You know I was thinking about my stage 3, and isn't it weird how close it was to stage 2 of the tour de France this year, catching the break 1 second too late..
PCM.Daily NFL Fantasy Football Champion: 2012 PCM.Daily NHL Prediction Game Champion: 2013 PCM.Daily NFL Prediction Game Champion: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021
4th rider from the left and back 1, you can see Ramiro French in his blue jersey for being the points leader right now! Team leader Adam Casey is beside him.
We had a bunch of attacks again today, and everyone stuck early. French wasn't feeling well enough to attack again, so we sent Terrance McLaughlin in the break.
Eventually we had 14 riders settle in the break, and maintain a 4:30 lead with 100km left.
For the first time all tour long, everyone sprinted for the mountain win, I was surprised, and so was Terrance, he wasn't even close to the front, who was trying to just get the points so French would stay tied for the lead.
Back to the main group of the race, and Ramiro French is staying right on the back wheel of race leader Ryan Eastman.
Back to the break for a time update, and they have a 3:00 lead with 75km to go. Fast forward to 50km to go and take a minute off of that (2:00). A little interesting note, out of the 14 riders in the break, no 2 riders are on the same team. 14/21 teams are in the break today. Terrance McLaughlin of Sunkist took both sprints today! They were uncontested to, its like he could of crawled over the line.
Sunkist & Renfe are no up front doing the pace making. and with 20km left, there is no more break, everyone was caught.
Mobistar is up front now doing the pace-making, all of the teams are getting their sprinters into position now. As we are getting close to the line, everybody is attacking for the line. Sunkist has Adam Casey & Ramiro French in position to win, but the speed wasn't fast enough today.
Maybe a bad day because we were so close to winning, but we don't think that way. Ramiro is still in contention overall, will hold the points jersey, and is still tied for the mountains jersey!

Well thats all for now guys! I will see you after we have our next stage!
Edited by jseadog1 on 02-07-2013 02:02
PCM.Daily NFL Fantasy Football Champion: 2012 PCM.Daily NHL Prediction Game Champion: 2013 PCM.Daily NFL Prediction Game Champion: 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2021
Here we are for the next to last stage in the first race of the year! I am just so excited about the race, I am very happy with the performance, not to mention without our best rider here (although most teams did not bring their best guys).
Here is Ramiro French on the right in his points jersey, and we also have Brady & Casey along the gate.
Breakaway forms right from the start, and they jump out to a 5:30 lead with 120km left, they are probably hoping to make it to that final climb, but it is highly unlikely that they will last.
Giant Cycling & Renfe Cycling are leading the charge at the front, chasing the break which has a 4:30 advantage with 100km left. The chase was at a pretty fast speed, as with 75km to go it was a 3:00 lead, and 40km to go saw it at just a 1:00 lead, pretty safe to bet that they would not make it.
We are riding along the bootleg of Louisiana, and the Gulf of Mexico is now in view of the race. This has to be my favorite photo of the race so far even though it rained all day. Giant Cycling, Renfe Cycling, and Team Sunkist lead the chase.
The break was caught, but before it was completely reeled in, 2 of the riders attacked again, and with 25km left, they have a 30 second lead.
Everybody has been caught, we are just 1.5km from the only climb on the day, and what do ya know, Ramiro French attacks the field, he wants to take the mountain classification back!
I will admit, it was my idea for Ramiro to attack. Ramiro had some people coming after him, but his climbing skills are coming along well, and he takes the points by a lengthy margin, could he take the stage now again?
Ramiro is in the very front of this picture, the rider at the front of the peleton had just launched an attack after this picture, and behind him was where the peleton was at, at least what was left of it after the climb.
Turns out the guy that attacked was from Walmart, Ramos was his last name. He caught up to Ramiro fairly quickly and they held a 1:20 lead with 5km left, it looks like one of these two will win.
Well, Ramiro was not as fresh as I had thought, he died on the final climb, could not even sprint to the finish, he could have had 2nd easily, luckily we were only 0.5km away when he died, but that just meant Ramos would take the stage win handily. Adam Casey did give us a fairly strong performance though, as he finished right with Ramiro! All the favorites in this race finished right up front. We had some riders that could not keep up today either.
Take a look at our boy Ramiro French though!
