Istrian Spring Trophy
Stage 3
Another hilly day, encouraged by yesterday's result we're looking to do one better.
Once again we spend the day on the front with CCC and Endura.
The first attack from the favourites comes from Markus Fothen (NSP) and he gets a good 20 second gap.
With just under 2km to go the reaction finally comes, can Fothen hold on?
Nope, J T-L puts in a monster sprint and flies past Fothen as if he's standing still, there was no-one who could react.

Istrian Spring Trophy
4th and Final Stage
A flat day, Gorka's our man for the stage, but we're going to try get Ion up there for the intermediate sprints to try get him onto the podium.
Illart the Ox as he's become known by his team mates takes a massive turn on the front to bring the break back for Ion, and he succeeds, but Ion is a bit far back and doesn't quite get himself to the front, he finishes 4th in the sprint, he's unable to pick up seconds in the other remaining intermediate sprints.
We move straight to the final sprint, Gorka goes early, but a little too early and only manages 9th, the stage is won by Geert Van der Weijst.

Still a decent outcome 2 men in the top 10 is very good! Youth Jersey is also nice. |

@Ian Butler - Yeah we're pretty pleased with the early season, not expecting much from Normandie, we took our best team to Croatia, Diego Milan Jimenez with some top 10's in the sprints is probably all we're expecting. |

Tour de Normandie
We're having a shocker of a week, 7 flat stages, 7 sprints, best we get are top 20 finishes with Diego Milan Jimenez who's starting to come good, he should be hitting top form soon.
Seb Chavanel of Europcar wins the GC
GP Costa Azul
Stage 1
With Normandie being a complete write off the boys here in Portugal want to do really well to make up for that, again all flat stages in the race, but we have Gorka Izagirre really fit and on decent form at the minute, as well as a strong team behind him.
Our very own Illart the Ox (Zuazubiskar) as his team mates have started to call him makes it into the BoD.
Ion tells us he has really good legs today, and that he's not felt this good in ages! (Shame it's not a mountain stage!) So we agree that he can put them to use and try an attack, so he does over the final categorised climb of the day and gets across to the break.
There's a huge crash in the middle of the peleton which sees the peleton reduced to some 40 odd riders, but we all manage to avoid it, maybe it'll be our lucky day!!
Despite Illart and Ion driving the breakaway they're taken back, but no worry, Gorka is preparing for the sprint and he feels good. Here he is with 1.5km to go sat on Radochla's wheel in 3rd waiting to launch his sprint.
But he's pipped at the end by Edgar Pinto who comes steaming up the right hand side of the road, such a shame!
Stage
1) Edgar Pinto - LA Antarte - 2h59'53
2) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - s.t.
3) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
4) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
5) Arran Brown - MTN - s.t.
6) Sammy Caldeira - Carmim-Prio - s.t.
7) Mark Cassidy - An Post - s.t.
8) René Obst - NSP - s.t.
9) Geert van der Weijst - Jo Piels - s.t.
10) Marcel Aregger - Atlas - s.t.
The top 5 of the GC is the same as the stage standings.
With a disappointing Tour of Normandie the team are pretty happy with the first stage in Portugal where the team have been very active and managed to pick up a 2nd place! |

GP Costa Azul
Stage 2
Today is another flat day, Gorka's our man, it is also very windy today so we need to try keep to the front to avoid any echelons that may form.
Without a breakaway formed yet Gorka decides to take advantage and take the extra bonus seconds on offer, none of his rivals go for the sprint, he may not have the fastest sprint but he is a wily fox is Gorka! (Picture has disappeared)
We skip straight to the action now, with 20 km to go we move to the front and put the hammer down, the wind has dropped by now so there's no chance of echelons forming, but some 30 weaker riders drop off the back. Gorka prepares his sprint.
But Van Rensburg is on super form here too and takes a very impressive win, Gorka comes in a good 3rd place.
Stage
1) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - 4h40'56
2) Sammy Caldeira - Carmim-Prio - s.t.
3) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - s.t.
4) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
5) Felipe Cardoso - Efapel(?) - s.t.
6) Eric Baumann - Thorn - s.t.
7) Marcel Aregger - Atlas - s.t.
8) Jonas Ljungblad - Differdange - s.t.
9) Jani Tewelde Weldegaber - MTN - s.t.
10) Alejandro Marque - Carmim-Prio - s.t.
Thanks to the time bonuses Gorka picked up today he moves into the leaders jersey with 2 stages remaining. The team and the management are delighted! Our first leaders jersey and definitely won't be our last!
Spoiler Oh, did we mention that he also leads the Points and Young Riders classification?!
GC
1) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - 7h40'23
2) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - +6
3) Edgar Pinto - LA Antarte - s.t.
4) Sammy Caldeira - Carmim-Prio - +14
5) Stefan Radochla - NSP - +18 |

Good racing as of late.
The Izagirre's seem to be getting you a lot of good results.

@Jakstar - Gorka's a clever so and so, we hope he can too, we're quietly confident!
@HaRe - Fingers crossed!
@Valverde - They're both on good form at the minute, shame there's not a hilly/mountain stage for Ion!
@Sutty - Gorka is really fit and in excellent form at the minute, we hope he can hang in there against the better sprinters! |

GP Costa Azul
Stage 3
A flat stage today, main aim is to keep Gorka in yellow.
Here's Gorka in his beautiful yellow jersey, he's looking very relaxed next to the KoM leader Baer (Atlas)
We come straight to the final categorised climb where little brother Ion sets a ferocious pace over the top of the climb to try put the stronger sprinters into some trouble, as he and Gaizka push as hard as the can on the downhill run in.
The pressure we put on causes a crash further back in the peleton, and with just 5km to go anyone harbouring GC ambitions is in big trouble, we manage to avoid hitting the deck, but Illart, Aiert and Aitor are caught up behind it, as we're left with a 65 man peleton.
Massive cock up from NSP as Radochla's lead-out man Tino Thomel takes the win from his own leader! Worse still is that if Radochla took the win he'd have taken the yellow jersey with it, so Gorka keeps yellow! I wouldn't like to be on that team bus tonight!
Stage
1) Tino Thomel - NSP - 4h01'21
2) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
3) Jonas Ljungblad - Differdange - s.t.
4) Arran Brown - MTN - s.t.
5) Edgar Pinto - LA Antarte
6) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - s.t.
7) Seb Forke - NSP - s.t.
8) Andreas Stauff - Eddy Merckx-Indeland - s.t.
9) Nikias Arndt - LKT - s.t.
10) Sammy Caldeira - Carmim-Prio - s.t.
GC
1) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - 11h41'44
2) Stefan Radochla - NSP - +6
3) Edgar Pinto - LA Antarte - s.t.
4) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
5) Tino Thomel - NSP - s.t.
With just one stage to go Gorka still holds the yellow jersey but with 4 men within 6 seconds it's still anyones game. |
