This is just fu***ng awesome.
I knew that there was a chance for a mid stage attack as Devolder won a test with real teams once on a similar way.
I think the short moment of Belgium to stop the pace to go back to Vanspeybrouck might have been the key moment for the breakaway.
My team was active in general today. Novak, Van Heerden in the early attempts as well.
Was it actually a windy race? I think more wind like in the U23 race would have been favoured the peloton a bit more. Less wind favours the breakaway. |

Yep the break gained 30-40" at that moment if I remember correctly and it also cost the Belgians quite a bit to chase back on.

No wind at all.

This explains the different gameplay to the U23 race I guess, where dropped riders like Pozzato here, never really had the chance to come back as it is so much harder to come back after a moment of less concentration.
Also the breakaway might have suffered a lot more with wind.
So I guess I had a lot of luck here. And to your earlier question. Of course he will stay with me. I already decided this very early this season, that I will build my team around him. As he might ask for more money, I should have enough when cutting this weird Belgium "sprinter".
And just realised. My only other 3 riders here are within the last 5.

You could have spared me of that info.
Congratulations, though. And awesome reporting on a thrilling race.
Now, please let me buy Boom. He'd do well with my continental squad |

Bring Schreurs up to 82+ hill and we might consider a switch.
And the Devolder case was with Vacansoleil stats, so totally different. Justa similar scenario of tier 2 riders winning from a break. Also there was no team then as dominant as the Belgium squad here. Probably not even as strong as the Italian or German.

That result was pretty much perfect I think, with a strong outsider winning it. Very exciting, great work Count and all the other reporters.

Good win from Boom to come through and hold on - looked a cert with 10km to go - good job from Count to maintain the tension.

Stunning report and an amazing win for Boom! Big congratulations to roturn.
A nice surprise to see riders from mye team being that active. I actually thought Rojas was going to grab a medal for a while, but he clearly didn't have the legs to follow or pick up the chase after Boom. |

Highly enjoyable road races. CountArach and roturn have really been excellent reporters this season - also roturn designed a really nice course he's a real expert in the classics, getting them to play out nicely.
In terms of the racing, the elite RR was a atypical pcm11 classic scenerio chase down naff looking breaks before letting a break of dangerous riders take a risky amount of time.
I was actually expecting a field sprint, in playtesting Bewley in the elite and Vingerling in the U23's won the day twice out of four goes I
had on each for fun.
Belgium were caught without a real leader in many ways, cannot see Boonan being dropped on the Muur ever and I think if he'd have been available we would have had the catch.
Congrats to roturn and enjoy making that World Champs jersey

Great report.
And Belgium certainly screwed that up. All 9 riders, and not only unable to catch Boom, but also unable to finish in the Top 5.
Pathetic by Blythe (what changes?) but it was good to see Tennant and a whole variety of Vesuvio riders being aggressive.

Nice race. Enjoyable to read, and I was quite surprised to see Ponzi still in the lead group! Good win by Boom.

Oh, a medal. Not bad. But surely Ballan can't expect any better pay for a bronze?

Spain did better than I expected.
Congrats Roturn, and thanks CountArach for an excellent report.

Great reports and a lot of deserving winners. Was cheering on Broers there, but he just didn't have the legs. |
