I can live with that. All you can ask for on a stage with a downhill finish is for the AI not to let a dangerous rider get away.
Judging by fact Abal led peloton home they had an all day snooze.
Pretty much, the mountain was hard enough to kill the sprinters and domestiques, so when they got over the top no one had any reason or ability to chase, except probably Abal for Cunego. And while he probably would have won the sprint, saving Abal for the last three days is more sensible.

Looking at the profile for this stage yesterday I was thinking it was made for the likes of Guldhammer. Big win for my young Grand Tour rider. It's only my fourth stage win of the season, but a very nice one indeed!

This could have been stage no.2 for Kreder, but he started too far from the first positions.

Well a decent organised sprint at last and a very nice performance from Impey indeed. I pleased with the teams performance here, gives some hope if JRB to manage to hold on to their promotion spot.
The final stages of course will be more of a dose of reality - going to be a GC battle royale for sure.

Super win for our sprinter.
Over to Cunego now to really bring home the bacon. Hope Montoya pays for the effort he made today chasing after those 3 points for green. |

Guerao has been a massive waste here, best sprinter but can only return a third place.

Although he is the better TTer, no way Machado takes back almost a minute on any of the top-3.
Nice try throughout the race though.

This top 3 battle is making the race immensely interesting. Come on Henao!

In a way I am a little glad that Carmeuse have overtaken me in the team and KoM rankings - to deny them Protour points is cruel.
Even so, it would be nice to see a guy in the final road stage breakaway.
It's close at the top, Cunego is surely still the strong favourite though unless he somehow gets blocked/has a bad day/crashes on the next stage.

Awwww.....Machado stopped Cunego winning the race right there I think. Without him, think Cunego would have rode away with it - seemed to have plenty left the way he cut the gap in final kilmoter to Ricco.
If Ricco wins here, will mean Cunego has to return to the Giro next year to put him in his place. |

Can't say I've been all that impressed with my climbers here. Bit under par to say the least. Not that I was expected miracles, but I was expecting Cataldo, for example, not to drop back to help Rowe all the time, etc.

Wow, FML.
Really, i knew Cunego would beat me, but now i'll end up 4th.
Also, gap from Machado to Henao: 13 seconds.
Same gap from Henao to UBS rider: 8 seconds.
Same gap from UBS rider to Uran: 16 seconds.

Ardila is looking good. He should get back that half a minute on Lopez Garcia and should also be able to defend the one minute lead to Taaramae. Even if he won't do that he will still finish in the top 10, which means that I have achieved my goal here. Also, as a bonus, I got a stage win too.

The annoying thing about the AI is that even though Uran is back and capable of fighting for the stage, the AI doesnt make him attack because he is too far down in GC.
Saw a similar thing with Fothen in the Tour, except of course when Fothen went in the day long stage-winning breakaway.
