I think it's obvious that Evans is by far the biggest favourite for the Tour. Much more solid and proven rider on Hilly and Mountain Terrain than Wiggo. Plus Wiggo's yet to prove he's got a decent TT after 19 tough stages.
Evans is favourite by big margin, then followed by Gesink and Wiggins. Then come likes of Samu, Nibali. Menchov and Andy.

And let's not forget Van Den Broeck. Not exactly his favorite profile but he could ride a good TDF again. |

Yeah, forgot him. Improved TT looking by his results this year. We'll see how he does on Thursday, but definitely another big favourite.

Thor Hushovd will not start TDF because of a viral infection.

I think he'll ride top 3. But Evans will win, hands down, imo.
Though in the betting section, I'll put my money on Van Den Broeck anyway (a man can dream, can't he? ) |

Yes, Evans will win. Though I hope Nibbles can do something

.
This is excluding 2009 TDF and 2011 Vuelta i assume
Yes Evans is more proven, mostly becasue he has ridden more road races and tours.
Over the last 2-3years Wiggins has been better |

Evans attack has to be a bit scary for the other TdF contenders...we have 100k+ of TT and he essentially pulled 2 other riders away from chasing peloton and then went on to beat them both in a sprint he started from about 600m out.
I think he will give Wiggens a serious problem because I don't know that Wiggens will gain any time on Evans in the TTs and I'm pretty sure he will lose time on the climbs.

It's all looking very promising for "Our Cadel".
I love it here in Australia, there is the small population of people who actually follow cycling, and then there is the rest of the people who only start watching if it's A) The Tour and B) an Australian is doing well. The amount of people that suddenly call him there hero and an aussie legend as stuff and they would probably think the Criterium du Dauphine is a French horse race.

I just read on cyclingnews that Hesjedal will ride the tour and try to win it.
Do you think it's possible? I hope so, but I don't think so with Contador in mind.

No way he'll succeed.
We saw last year that not even this generation's best stage racer could do it.

Contador didn't have any steaks last year though so it doesn't count for me.
If Hesjedal says he can do it, let him at it.

Maybe he's so confident because he's been to the same 'restraunt' as Contador?

Contador does not need any "steaks" to prove that he is the best stage racer of this generation

To get back on the topic, and off Contador's back;
Hesjendal has a low chance of succeeding in TDF. I reckon Evans will be pretty unbeatable and take his second TDF on a row, which is good for the sport in Australia. And if you think about it, it's a bit of a victory for England as well, as he official head of Australia is still the Queen, I believe?
So it's England anyway, Evans (or possibly Wiggins, though I doubt it) |
