You mean AI?
But yes, you're right. Most of my riders won't do what I want them to do when simulating. But hey, Gilbert will win a lot, and it's just for fun

January 6th: Sigaarsnor releases "Draft List of Pure Epicness"
After the key riders have been signed, VI's fan base, Sigaarsnor, now gets his vote in the drafting process. The administrators of the Sigaarsnor forum, only interested in good Tour results, spectacular riders and "fun on TV", have created a shortlist of ten riders VI should go for in the final draft rounds. Sigaarsnor has been given full permission to sign the riders from draft round #17 onwards. Here are the riders they've selected:
Marc de Maar
The rider from Curacao we all know because of his jersey
Michael Rasmussen
Does he need an introduction? After getting banned because he cheated on his wife, he'll be back in the Tour for one last time. If you pick him, that is.
Yohann Gené
Yohann became a small culthero in the Netherlands. Not because he was the first rider from Guadeloupe to ride the Tour, not because of his skin colour, but because his name was practically the same as Tour du Jour host Wilfred Genee.
Stefan Schumacher
Will one of our favourite Cera users get a second chance and continue his career in a WT team?
Ioannis Tamouridis
The Greek national champion and the Tour de Romandie stage winner could, if my information is right, become the first Greek rider to finish a Tour.
Fred Rodriguez
Fast Freddy Rodriguez, the ex-doper and Rock Racing rider, did surprisingly well in the Tour of California in real-life, and is still popular in the USA. Perhaps he can please the sponsors with his popularity in he USA, but is he still fast enough?
Eugen Wacker
The first rider from Kyrgyzstan to become a professional cycling won the Asian TT Championships in 2012. He also has a nice NC jersey.
Juraj Sagan
Sagan's unknown brother could re-unite with Peter, but is he good enough to be in a WT team?
Sergey Lagutin
The Uzbek climber, 15th in the 2011 Vuelta, could actually be a worthy climber for us in the Tour (CL 74). He won the u23 world championships in 2003, will he finally unleash his potential with us?
Jaan Kirsipuu
Is he still alive then?! The 42-year old Estonian, who still has a decent bunch sprint, could make a surprise comeback with us. Perhaps he's the road captain we still need with all those youngsters?
Everybody on this forum may submit their own draft list to me, either via PM or by replying in this topic. You have 48 hours to submit your list. Every rider will get points based on his position (#1 gets one point, #10 gets ten), and I'll sum up the scores. The rider with the lowest number will be our #1, 2nd lowest will be our #2 onwards.
Example:
1Marc de Maar
2 Michael Rasmussen
3 Yohann Gené
4 Stefan Schumacher
5 Ioannis Tamouridis
6 Eugen Wacker
7 Juraj Sagan
8 Sergey Lagutin
9 Jaan Kirsipuu
10 Fred Rodriguez
Have fun

Thanks guys. I hope to get a few more lists, then I will announce the top three tomorrow. Note that Lagutin has been taken already, but I don't think this will happen with the others too soon (expect for Schumi and Rodriguez, looking at fjhoekie's list )
January 8th: Riders arrive in California
Coorperation agreement with Metec taking shape
Spoiler VI-Sigaarsnor and Metec have agreed that newest signing Caleb Ewan will train with Metec for this season. The 17(!)-year old junior world champion will get "all the time in the world to adapt to the Dutch culture". Ewan will keep his contract with VI and race some smaller races. "Racing will do him good", the manager said. In return for some guaranteed wins and thus attention, sponsor Metec has agreed that they will be delivering LAS helmets to VI, the same helmets that are being used by Metec.
Riders arrive in California
Spoiler Philippe Gilbert, Peter Sagan, Rigoberto Urán, Lars Boom, Nairo Quintana, Mattia Cattaneo, Tosh van der Sande and Salvatore Puccio have arrived in Santa Berbera, USA, for a training camp to prepare for their season. Due to jetlag difficulties, the riders will not train today. A special VI reporter will go with them and publish a screenshot of the day from tomorrow on.
"Five trainers for VI this season"
Spoiler According to team manager Vien, VI will be aiming to get five trainers this year. Apart from head coach Denny Nelissen, they were only able to announce one name: Stage races specialist Glenn Buterol. The team was pleased with the signing: "Although he's from a farmer family, he has excellent knowledge about the combination of training, food and resting (days)"
Matthews will have to do it in Australia, participation in Argentina requested
Spoiler Michael Matthews will be the team leader of VI during the Tour down Under this year. The rider hopes to be able to sprint for victory, especially in the hillier stages. "There's no pressure though, I may be Australian but I'm not planing to peak there... yet". Luke Durbridge will also race in Australia, Caleb Ewan may prove to be able to keep up with the pace during the Australian Championships. VI has also requested the organisers of the Tour de San Luis to be allowed to participate there. The 7-day race in Argentina could prove to be "a great season opener for Peter and some of the weaker riders"

January 9th: "Epic List" Winners!
Screenshot of the day
The team took it easy today, with a 100-kilomiter ride near the coast of Santa Barbara. They will go a bit more off-shore tomorrow and ride on some hills near their hotel room. Most of the team showed tremendous form already, though Salvatore Puccio had some trouble keeping up with the rest when the pace increased.
VI aims for three most popular riders
Spoiler After the fans' and the administrator's votes have been counted, VI-Sigaarsnor has announced that they have started contract negotiations with Marc de Maar, Michael Rasmussen and Yohann Gené. Juraj Sagan and Jaan Kirsipuu are on the reserve list. "Signing at least three of these riders could massively increase our popularity", team manager Vien said. "Besides, Michael and Jaan can become the important tutors we still need to see in the team, and the others are worthy teammates as well". It is still unknown how many of these riders VI will be able to sign, as lurking Teddy the Creators are rumoured to have offered at least one of these riders a contract as well.

January 11: Contract negotiations with Rasmussen succeeded!
Screenshot of the day
Due to the massive heat, the riders have decided to stay near the shore for another day. They will resume their training on the hills tomorrow.
Rasmussen joins the squad, De Maar decides to try his luck elsewhere
Bad news at VI yesterday as Marc de Maar announced that he signed at Clas-Cajastur. The rider from Curacao said that he "seriously considered moving to VI", but that he was too scared to "become a gimmick".
As soon as De Maar announced that he wouldn't go to VI, the team has started negotiations with two replacements. One of them is Juraj Sagan, first reserve on the "epic list", the second rider is "A non-Spanish rider whose face I would never recognize, but who became famous in the Vuelta". Any guesses?
However, there was also a lot of good news. Michael Rasmussen, fans' favourite, was the first of the three "epic list"-signings. Also, solely to please the fans, the team has contracted puncheurs Julien El Fares, Rubén Pérez and Mickaël Delage, who can have a go in the breakaways this season. Last but not least is the extremely talented 19(!)-year old Jasha Sütterlin, who will get a chance to prove himself for the Vuelta squad this season.
Expect a huge season preview by VI with an interview with Philippe Gilbert within a few days! |

January 13: Six new riders, Giro, Tour and Vuelta preselections
Six new riders for VI
Spoiler The past two days, six riders have signed at VI. Among them are two Epic List winners, two attackers and two TT talents. Here they are:
-Time trial talents Andreas Hofer and Ben King. The Austrian and American both have about the same level of time trialing right now, however, Ben King is the bigger talent according to a lot of people. Together they will fight for a spot in the Vuelta squad.
-Attackers Dirk Müller and Eloy Teruel. The ex-German champion, who was born in a place where I often go on holiday (that's why I know him ), will be an ideal road captain for the youngsters. Eloy is a track cyclist with a steady TT and a nice sprint. A new power engine in the breakaways?
-Last but not least: "Epic Riders" Juraj Sagan and Johnnie Walker. Juraj was 4th on the list, but since Marc de Maar and Yohann Gène have decided to try their luck elsewhere, they have decided to sign him after all. Johnnie wasn't on the list, but they are sure to please their fans with the Australian with the remarkable name.
Apart from that, VI has also signed their last three trainers: Grey F. Digger for the cobble classics, Kenny Taurus for the attacks and Gert Jacobs' buddy Jean-Paul van Poppel for the sprints.
VI publishes preselections for Grand Tours
Much earlier than the other teams, VI has announced who will ride each of the grand tours. 11 riders have been selected for every GT, which means two of them won't participate after all. The early preselections will give every rider the chance to plan his season accordingly.
Giro D'Italia
Spoiler
Rigoberto Urán
Egor Silin
Mattia Cattaneo
Salvatore Puccio
Tosh van der Sande
Johnnie Walker
Jasha Sütterlin
Juraj Sagan
Nairo Quintana
Andreas Hofer
Romain Sicard
The Giro is THE grand tour for young riders to start, which you can see in this preselection. Every rider on this list is under 25. Apart from Urán, there will be no pressure on the riders, and they are not expected to help a lot. We hope to get the young classification and a top 10 with Urán.
Tour de France
Spoiler
Tejay van Garderen
Philippe Gilbert
Rigoberto Urán
Dirk Müller
Julien El Fares
Rubén Pérez
Lars Boom
Michael Rasmussen
Mickaël Delage
Romain Sicard
Nairo Quintana
An attacking team, just like the sponsors have expected. Every rider in this list has a FTR stat over 70. Every rider will have the freedom to attack, and Tejay van Garderen will be our GC guy. We hope he'll get the white jersey and a top 10.
Vuelta a España
Spoiler
Philippe Gilbert
Peter Sagan
Luke Durbridge
Tejay van Garderen
Eloy Teruel
Lars Boom
Andreas Hofer
Romain Sicard
Michael Matthews
Ben King
Freddy Cruz
The Vuelta will be Phillipe Gilbert's chance of glory. After hopefully having had the yellow Jersey at the Tour and a win at the Olympic games, he will be very fit for the Vuelta. Together with Tejay, he will try to get the leader's jersey at the TTT and try to keep it as long as possible. Yet again, we hope to get a top 10.

Sorry about Gene. Brice Feillu threatened to pout unless I signed another french rider. Had I known you cared I could have signed any number of other mediocre french riders. |

Really nice squads for the GTs.
I don't see Tejay getting top-10 though.

Well, every career I simulate, he gets around 11th. The epicness of this tour is that, after the cobble stage, the game doesn't recognize every rider as a GT rider anymore because they'll be too far behind.
@Ulrich Ulriksen: Don't worry. If I really wanted him, I simply should've gone for him earlier. |
