Of course I pointedly stayed away from Italy and Spain
Looking at this, I think that was a wise move....

Oh, pity that Ukraine was so close and missed the cut, i was hoping for at least one rider of my team in the Olympics, screw that Asian country who has the prior selection
I also voted for Israel, but that one point didnt help much...
Nice to see that also B-Olympics will take place, there Ukraine could be very strong (but maybe still without my riders ).

Spanish shock with no Madrazo
By the time of the Olympics, theres a chance that Angel Madrazo will be a double GT winner - having already dominated the Vuelta. Rather than ride the Olympics however, the Spanish selectors have decided he should rest. He would merely have been a support for the team anyway - Ventoso and Valverde can both be dangerous.
Justo Tenorio (TT)
Ruben Plaza (TT)
Francisco Ventoso
Alejandro Valverde
Luis Leon Sanchez Gil
Jesus Del Nero
Portugese double act?
Tiago Machado and Rui Costa are two stand out names on the Portugese squad, especially if the race is hard. Also involved is Oscar Avelino - a strogn sprinter, but hills certainly arent his strength.
Tiago Machado (TT)
Rui Costa (TT)
Manuel Cardoso
Sérgio Paulinho
Óscar Avelino
Bruno Santos
Sweden make their selection
Sweden will have to be aggressive to make their present felt in the Olympics. The likes of Larsson, Kessiakoff, Lofkvist and Ljungblad are all strong riders and could play a role, while Westling has some sprint ability.
Gustav Larsson (TT)
Freddy Johansson (TT)
Thomas Löfkvist
Fredrik Kessiakoff
Jonas Ljungblad
Mattias Westling
Japan go mad for Meiji
Meiji-Fuji are guaranteed 6 riders in the Olympics thanks to the selection of the Japanese team. The route does suit Yukiya Arashiro - can he pull off a shock?
Fumiyuki Beppu (TT)
Junya Sano (TT)
Yukiya Arashiro
Junpei Murakami
Yukihiro Doi
Taiji Nishitani

I dont have time to wait around for every manager to vote. 40 were able to do it promptly, and most have also now made their actual squad selections aswell.
Also, just now was your first Man-Game post since February - over 6 weeks ago. That is what can reasonably be categorised as a lack of interest in the game - and certainly suggested to me that it was somewhat unlikely that you would vote.

If its any consolation, Russia would have needed at least 7 points to make it in. I count Russia as a European country, so Japan were safe as the best placed Asian country.

Ah great, so I can tell my riders it wasn't my fault! Russians really like to blame their faults, like Katyn, on others!
A few of them will probably get a chance to ride the B Olympics - although that will have to wait until June.

Spain look like a bit of a threat with Valverde for me the biggest danger because the guy will be tough to drop. Interesting that Del Nero is in, the Olympic champion Sammy Sanchez meanwhile is out the Santander manager clearly had a lot of sway!
Some have a go hilly heroes for Sweden - Lovkvist and Kessiakoff are dangerous.
Have the portuguese been to surrey, England and seen Box Hill, maybe they have and don't rate it. Then again they are not blessed with a huge talent pool still a guy like Rodrigues or Pires may have been worth a shout. Avelino was massively disappointing in the Vuelta, anything that resembled a road bump had him struggling.
I look at Japan's options and then I wonder really how they got six votes - four I can understand but where did the other two come from I wonder. Before anyone says it there were no cash for votes between Meiji-Fuji and Jayco Red Bull, the 850,000 paid for Arashiro and Beppu was for their talent alone. Was it enough to buy an Olympic champion?

None of the 5 Spanish selectors chose Sammy Sanchez, so I forget to mention they hadnt picked the defending champion
Theres a clue towards the bottom of Page 2 as to who gave Japan the votes they needed to beat China

Sammy's not good enough any more, while Del Nero will hopefully be a good lead out man should one be required.

I'm still waiting on a few people to make their selections. At some point tomorrow I will be looking to confirm the startlists.

There mine have been sent, tried to pick as good a team as possible, my Italy is based mostly on Benatti, and giving him leadouts who could surivive the hills. My Germany was purely based on making the race a hell for others, I didn't feel any of the sprinters where good enough to survive the hills :-p My Norway will be about Hagen and Hushovd (is there any choise there?)

Yes, Vassdal!
I don't like the making the sound of making the race hell for others though, sounds ominous. |

For some reason I mis-clicked and edited SN's post, edited back now, here is my reply:
My fault, I'm working on home-exam, and for some reason I forgot to hit reply :-p Luckily I use Firefox, so I could just backspace til I had it back.
My fault, blame multivariate statistics!

Young Norwegian, can Time Trial reasonably well, tends to fall on descents when in strong breaks. |
