Stage 5 - Biot to Toulon Mont-Faron
The final stage of the 2012 race and it is the stage that will decide the overall here. The stage itself is quite flat but it is the climb at the very end which will decide the winner.
Favourites: Casar (FDJ), Voeckler (Europcar), Moncoutie (Cofidis)
It was a routine day here in France with a 9-man break going up the road. They gained around 5 minutes before we pulled them back and they were caught with 20km to go. It was Casar and Mombaerts leading up the final climb with 3km to go.
With 1km to go Casar accelerated away from Mombaerts to take the win, his 3rd of the race, and the overall jersey. Mombaerts came in 2nd with Moncoutie 3rd.

(A brilliant race for us! We won 4 of the 5 stages and took away most of the jerseys in the end, we couldn't have asked for a better way to win our first stage! This will give our riders huge confidence now going into March as we have got wins under our belt.) |

The Tour of Oman is a relatively new race with 2012 being the 3rd edition, but we are using the 2011 route in my career!. But it has become a favourite with sprinters as there are plenty of chances to grab a stage win. The GC will be decided on Stage 4 with a mountain finish and Stage 5 with a Time Trial.

For the sprints it will again be Bozic, Freire, Kittel and Hutarovich. But the GC this time will probably be fought between Menchov, Rujano, Duarte and Rolland. It will be an interesting race as the riders are very much equal in the sprints and on the climbs.

We have a squad here that can challenge but not necessarily win in Oman. Obviously, Hutarovich is our best chance of a win here in the sprints with Bouhanni being his leadout man and for the GC we have Pinot who could do well on the mountainous finish but will suffer the next day in the time trial, his right-hand man will be Veikkanen who will look to position him well on Stage 4. |

@ franki28: Thank you! It was a very good race for us and I'm hoping for a good result here with both riders
Stage 1 - Al Sawadi to Al Seeb
A flat stage to start the race here and the sprinters will be looking to take to the win and the overall.
Favourites: Kittel (1t4i), Bozic (Astana), Hutarovich (FDJ)
A 3-man break went away today but no one in it was really worth mentioning They gained a maximum of 4 minutes here as the sprinters team were wanting a stage win and the break was caught with 20km to go. It was Bozic with the win as he carried his form over from Qatar. We managed to get Hutarovich into 2nd with Wilkinson (Endura) was 3rd.

Stage 2 - Muscat to Al Wutayya
Another flat stage for the sprinters to contest here.
Favourites: Kittel (1t4i), Bozic (Astana), Hutarovich (FDJ)
A 10-man break went away, again containing no one worth mentioning. It was allowed a bigger gap than yesterday with a maximum of 5 minutes and was caught with 6km to go so it was actually was a very tight stage in the end. Kittel added to his win total this season by gaining 1st here. Freire came a close 2nd and Bozic was 3rd.

Favourites: Kittel (1t4i), Freire (Katusha), Bozic (Astana)
A 3-man break went away, containing Stamsnijder (1t4i). The 3 men were allowed 4 minutes before being caught within the final 10km. Bozic carried on his fabulous February with another win, Freire came 2nd and Lacombe was a surprising 3rd.

@ sutty68: Has been a good race for him so far but it seems like he just can't give it that extra bit and win but Bozic is very strong here and was at Qatar also.
Stage 4 - Sultan Qaboos University to Jabal al Akhdhar
Finally! We have a stage that will not be won by a sprinter here. The finish will be a tough one and will decide who has a good chance of winning yellow here.
Favourites: Menchov (Katusha), Rujano (Androni), Rolland (Europcar)
12 men formed the breakaway today containing Paolini (Katusha), (possibly allowing Katusha not to waste men to chase?). They were allowed a gap of 5 minutes before the peloton began to reel them in. Race leader Bozic tried to bridge with 40km to go but was quickly shut down. At the foot of the climb it was Vinther (Saxo Bank) who was the remaining survivor and looked like he didn't have much left.
Strangely, no one made a move until the final 2km when we sent Pinot up front to try and get a gap by riding away. This was not to be however as Rodriguez (Katusha) rode away from Sorensen (Saxo Bank) and Pinot in the final kilometre. Victory looked assured...
It was. Rodriguez rode clear in the final kilometre to win Stage 4 and take the overall jersey too. Sorensen (Saxo Bank) was 2nd and we were very pleased to see Pinot hang on for 3rd and finish in front of some of the favourites.
1 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Katusha Team | 3h50'39 | 2 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Team Saxo Bank | + 38 | 3 | Thibaut Pinot | FDJ - BigMat | + 49 | 4 | Pierre Rolland | Team Europcar | s.t. | 5 | Denis Menchov | Katusha Team | + 1'05 | 6 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Astana Pro Team | + 1'17 | 7 | Giovanni Visconti | Movistar Team | + 1'22 | 8 | Luca Ascani | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 9 | Daniel Navarro | Team Saxo Bank | s.t. | 10 | Jussi Veikkanen | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. |
1 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Katusha Team | 13h27'16 | 2 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Team Saxo Bank | + 46 | 3 | Thibaut Pinot | FDJ - BigMat | + 1'01 | 4 | Pierre Rolland | Team Europcar | + 1'09 | 5 | Denis Menchov | Katusha Team | + 1'25 | 6 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Astana Pro Team | + 1'37 | 7 | Giovanni Visconti | Movistar Team | + 1'42 | 8 | José Herrada | Movistar Team | s.t. | 9 | René Mandri | Endura Racing | s.t. | 10 | Luca Ascani | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. |
The stage to decide the GC, will Rodriguez manage to hold on or will another contender take yellow?
(The stage would not load every time I tried it so I had to simulate it much to my annoyance!)
1 | Sérgio Paulinho | Team Saxo Bank | 25'15 | 2 | Filippo Pozzato | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | + 3 | 3 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 4 | Tom Stamsnijder | Project 1t4i | + 6 | 5 | Gustavo César Veloso | Andalucía | + 7 | 6 | Denis Menchov | Katusha Team | + 8 | 7 | Ben Day | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team | + 9 | 8 | José Rujano | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | + 10 | 9 | Iván Gutiérrez | Movistar Team | + 13 | 10 | Patrick Gretsch | Project 1t4i | s.t. |

Stage 6 - Qurayyat to Mattrah Seafront
The final stage of this years Tour of Oman and it should be won by a sprinter here, the GC places have already been decided, barring any crashes of course!
Favourites: Kittel (1t4i), Hutarovich (FDJ), Bozic (Astana)
An 8-man break went away up the road today containing no one really worth mentioning. They managed to gain a maximum of 5 minutes before Astana and 1t4i began to reel them in and they were caught with 15km to go. Bozic winning is becoming a formality here in Middle East and he didn't disappoint with another victory here. Freire was 2nd with Pozzato (Farnese Vini) 3rd.
1 | Borut Božic | Astana Pro Team | 3h38'46 | 2 | Óscar Freire | Katusha Team | s.t. | 3 | Filippo Pozzato | Farnese Vini - Selle Italia | s.t. | 4 | Marcel Kittel | Project 1t4i | s.t. | 5 | Keven Lacombe | SpiderTech powered by C10 | s.t. | 6 | Yauheni Hutarovich | FDJ - BigMat | s.t. | 7 | Sébastien Chavanel | Team Europcar | s.t. | 8 | Jonas Ljungblad | Team Differdange - Magic-Sportfood.de | s.t. | 9 | Ian Wilkinson | Endura Racing | s.t. | 10 | Luca Paolini | Katusha Team | s.t. |

1 | Joaquím Rodríguez | Katusha Team | 20 | 2 | Chris Anker Sørensen | Team Saxo Bank | 14 | 3 | Thibaut Pinot | FDJ - BigMat | 12 | 4 | Pierre Rolland | Team Europcar | 10 | 5 | Denis Menchov | Katusha Team | 8 |
1 | Thibaut Pinot | FDJ - BigMat | 17h33'49 | 2 | Tanel Kangert | Astana Pro Team | + 2'05 | 3 | Simone Ponzi | Astana Pro Team | + 2'08 | 4 | Jacobus Venter | Team Differdange - Magic-Sportfood.de | + 2'56 | 5 | Petr Ignatenko | Katusha Team | + 2'57 |
1 | Team Saxo Bank | 52h39'57 | 2 | Astana Pro Team | + 38 | 3 | Katusha Team | + 38 | 4 | Movistar Team | + 2'27 | 5 | Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela | + 3'21 |
(A good race for us with Hutarovich gaining a lot of podium and Top 5's and 10's, we also managed to get Pinot into the Top 10 and with his time-trialling skill at only 67 I am pleased that we managed this. Next up is the Tour du Haut Var!) |

@ sutty68 - I think if I had been able to do the time trial that I might have got a Top 5 placing but a Top 10 is a good result nonetheless.

Stage 1 - Draguignan to La Croix Valmer
The first stage of the race will see a hilly specialist winning as this stage looks to be an epic one with the favourites battling it out until the last metres.
Favourites: Vanendert (Lotto), Moncoutie (Cofidis), Fedrigo (FDJ)
Since we had a great squad here we decided to make everyone else suffer as much as possible and we set a brutal pace up the early climbs with Vichot doing huge amounts of damage to the peloton with it already being down to 74 riders.
No break was allowed to form because of the high pace and with 10km to go Moncoutie had gapped the peloton slightly but we immediately responded with another huge turn of pace and the front group was down to just 27 riders!
6km later, Moncoutie was at it again, this time attacking with 4km to go we tried to respond with a turn of pace but it was no good. The front group was down to 16.
We used all our remaining domestiques up to bring back Moncoutie and since Fedrigo had been dropped we sent Vaugrenard onto the attack to bridge the gap...
We sent him a little bit too late and Moncoutie took the win here and the overall lead, Vaugrenard was 2nd and we had Geslin winning the sprint for 3rd.

Stage 2 - Frejus to Fayence
Another brutal hilly stage here with the profile being undulating today. Only those with the best hill stat and fitness level will be able to win.
Favourites: Moncoutie (Cofidis), Geslin (FDJ), Vanendert (Lotto)
We decided to make the final stage a punishing one for everyone involved and set a brutal pace and had reduced the front group to 25 riders still with 80km to go.
The pace was kept at a high pace by everyone in the front group and with only 20km to go the group had been reduced further to 20 riders. It looked like it would come down to the very last climb to see who would win the race and possibly the overall?
Into the final kilometre 4 men moved clear off the front, Moncoutie, Mombaerts, Vanendert and Geslin. Unfortunately for us Vaugrenard didn't have the legs in the final metres to go with them.
Geslin wins in on the line from Moncoutie, another great result for us and the races in France this month have yielded 5 stage wins so far. Vanendert was 3rd.

(A fantastic race for us, we come away with a win and 2 riders in the Top 3 overall. Our hilly riders are now in good shape so that they can fare well in the final one-day races in February which are coming up next.) |

(An amazing 2 days for us, with 3 wins out of the 4 races we participated in, even though the startlists weren't very strong in most of the races. It caps an excellent February for us with plenty of wins and podiums for our team. We now turn to March were we will be looking to score some vital points in the ProTour events with possibly a stage win or 2 ) |
