Garmin - 4th season Giro d`Italia
FreitasPCM
Funny this stage, both in PCM 2010 and 2011, breakaways succeed too often. Pfft Maybe the GC isn't possible now, but you can grab a stage win with one of your riders.

baia
Well done with Murphy...maybe a stage win like Freitas says..

Thanks both of you. Will try it. Wink

Giro Di Reggio Calabria - Stage 2
Soverato - Vibo Valentia
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-1.jpg
It`s the second hard stage of this race. Unfortunately there is a longer flat part after the long climb in the end before a short uphill sprint, so not sure if we can decimate the peloton a lot there, but this will be our goal and maybe all riders of yesterdays breakaway will suffer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-2.jpg
6 riders in the break including yesterdays working teams with Caruso, Dall'Antonia (Liquigas) and Bertagnolli (Lampre), who lost already more than 3min. They are joined by Noè (Farnese Vini), Reihs (Christina Watches) and Gourov (Astana), whos team mate Kiserlovski is isolated now in the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-3.jpg
Garmin is doing the pace already on the first small hills to exhaust the weaker riders as much as possible. Some even fall behind already and won`t come back. So far no big names or high placed riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-4.jpg
The group starts the long and hard climb. Ardila (Geox) and Bailetti (De Rosa) joined them during the flat part. They still have some advance but with Garmin pushing they won`t be successful today.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-5.jpg
And we still are. The weaker climbers exhausted on the first part until the climb, while especially Pate and Peterson just started to decimate the group more and more.
Nevertheless Grega Bole and Kiserlovski attacked. But as the pace is very high they don`t really create a gap.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-6.jpg
Garmin pulled all together including the two attackers and the break of the day. Just about 40 riders were able to hang on in this group. Most of yesterdays breakaway are gone but with Selvaggi the yellow jersey is clearly visible. But so far our plan did work to improve in the rankings.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-7.jpg
With the final climb starting with 2,5km to go Daniel Martin attacks, while Pate and Peterson fall back. Highly deserved as they did the pace from the start of the climb until now.
Some riders try to follow but this attack was just too strong for them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-2-8.jpg
And so he takes the first win this season. Hopefully more will follow. He also gained a 9s gap, which will bring him on the 2nd in the overall as Bole wasn`t able to get bonus seconds as 4th. Selvaggi keeps the lead and it will be hard to steal it from him on the last and easiest stage.
But you also have to credit Lampre, who dominated the top10 today including breakaway rider Bertagnolli, who obviously recovered on the flat part. On the other hand they don`t have a top10 overall rider. So they can`t be very happy here.

Great win for Martin and the GC is looking better now, too! Selvaggi did a good job to defend his lead, but who knows.. maybe he will lose it in the easier last one Wink

I agree, great stage win by Martin

FreitasPCM
Nice win from Martin. Smile GC might go to Selvaggi, because the next stage is flat, or am I wrong? Wink

Great job with Martin, great win and one jersey safe. Let's hope you can somehow win now, though it will be hard, but it's cycling and everything can happen, like in Adelaide.

I´m really glad to see you converted and continue with your awesome story Smile

just a question, how did you deal with rider potentials in your team? are * in potential identical to PCM10? I prefer as much as realism as possible and e.g. Martin´s 80MO is already on the edge Grin

Thanks all. Stage 3 is indeed pretty flat with a mountain in the 2nd half but then 40km totally flat, so probably no chance for me, but it`s again a great start for Martin into the season. And hopefully a brilliant Giro by him.

@beagle:
The potential in my team are the same than in PCM10. Plus all riders got -1 in their potential to have it more ASO like.
Some stars are different as I haven`t converted all limits as this would have been too much work rider for rider as it wasn`t possible to make this in one step without having converted every single rider first, what was impossible with all the new coloumns.

But then I edited the most important riders in every team that they have the same stats than in PCM10 and also the limits are pretty equal. Martin for example won`t improve in climbing, but still a bit in hill like in my PCM10 career.
In general I tried to keep the limits as realistic in relationship to my old career and also to the AI riders as possible.

So actually there are still lots of changes although I wasn`t able to convert it to 100%.

thanks for explanation, I see you did a lot of work with your save game! you have (most likely) my vote, when awards will be announced Wink

Your post just made me edit a bit more before the real season starts. Wink
All top riders (first ~30 in every category) have now exactly the stats and limits from my 2010 savegame.

So many old riders are already no big challengers now like Evans, Sanchez, Hushovd. Still good but not the best.
Younger riders will perform like after 3 seasons like Guldhammer, Chainel, Ulissi etc.
And riders like Gesink, Kreuziger and Brajkovic will again be great stage racers and try to challenge the Contador, Schlecks, Van Den Broeck and also Wiggins.

Now even more looking forward to the big races. Wink

First half is a bit hilly but not that hard actually. The biggest difficulty is the longer climb in the 2nd half, but as it is still 40km totally flat afterwards there probably won`t be big changes in the overall.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-3-2.jpg
It could be a possible breakaway stage, so we decided to send Butler into this group. He did a good job for Martin so far and can today ride on his own.
Bileka (Amore & Vita), Gourov (Astana), V.Efimkin (Team Type 1), Corioni (Acqua & Sapone), Furdi (Adria Mobil), Laganà (De Rosa) and Jeżowski (Bank BGZ) complete the group. The best is at ~+5'30, so the gao isn`T allowed to be too big as Martin is just 4min ahead of them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-3-3.jpg
But with Butler in the group it`s totally up to Vacansoleil to do the work. And they do it pretty good, always keeping it around 6min maximum.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-3-4.jpg
With 50km to go and still 6min advance it`s a good time for Garmin to support them but still taking care that Butler can get a good result here.
The advance just must be under 4min in the end, that`s all we want.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-3-5.jpg
Butler`s position couldn`t be much better as 4th and behind the best sprinter in Jeżowski. But he is already a bit exhausted and also not a very good sprinter.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Cal-3-6.jpg
It`s Claudio Corioni, who wins the stage ahead of Furdi and Lagana. Who could have known that Jeżowski was totally out of energy. So Butler finished still on a good 6th for him and more important the win in the team rankings.
The peloton finished under 2min back, so Selvaggi wins the overall and Martin on a good 2nd again.

Thanks, early season breakaways are always fun, when the peloton doesn`t have the form to do a comparable pace to the mid season races.
Unfortuantely Muprhy was too weak on the hilly terrain and Butler too weak in the sprint terrain. Other way around might have been smarter afterwards. At least they secured the team win here.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-logo.jpg

Since 1992 the race is called Grand Prix d’Ouverture La Marseillaise dated in late January/early February and often starts the European Tour.
Record champion is Baden Cooke together with Edwig Van Hooydonck and Eddy Planckaert before 1992. In the last years it was dominated by French riders.
This year it`s more a sprinter classic and not as hilly as previous years, so the French rider will find it hard to defend their title here against strong opponents from America, Netherlands, Columbia and Spain.

Garmin squad in 2013
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-2.jpg
Tyler Farrar and Martijn Maaskant will start their season here. Both have big plans this year, especially in the Giro or the cobbled classics. They are supported by good riders and will fight for the win.

Pretty flat but with lots of short hills all over the stage. So the higher the pace the more sprinters might struggle, especially due to their average fitness that early in the season. This could give the puncheur sprinters like Traksel or Duque a small advantage. Also a breakaway is often doing well here, so we definitely want a rider in there.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-3.jpg
Luckily Michael Kreder found the right group and is in the break of the day together with some others. Strongest next to the Dutch surely the two French Mangel (Saur) and Le Lay (Ag2r).
Unfortunately this also means that 50% of all work is done by Kreder, 30% by Le Lay and 20% by Mangel. All others are simply doing nothing.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-4.jpg
At least we don`t have to do anything in the peloton. Cofidis for Duque, Europcar for Chavanel and a surprisingly strong Nutrixxion team around the two former stars Jens Voigt and Christian Vandevelde are doing the pace for a late attack or their sprinter Rene Obst.
Although just 3 riders are working in the group the advance is at 7min with 80km to go.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-5.jpg
With under10km to go already in the final town the group got caught and now Europcar is controlling the race. Obviously it`s not Chavanel they are riding for. It`s Sebastian Turgot, who got the lead-out by them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-6.jpg
But they don`t have an answer for the Garmin train with Bobridge-Maaskant-Farrar-Dao here and so they just fight our wheels.
Turgot with the best position and also Duque foudn a good wheel here as also the Saur duo.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11-Jan/Mar-7.jpg
Farrar hadn`t the form today and was also a bit blocked in the end.
So it`s Cofidis rider Leonardo Duque winning today ahead of Flahaut and Farrar with a nice 3rd in his first season race.
Also Maaskant did well as 8th today.

+1 Farrar is looking very good in early season. Hopefully this year will be his year at the Tour.

Thanks

It won`t. Wink
He won`t ride the Tour and totally focussing on the Giro, where he won the Points Jersey in 2010 and he will try to repeat this. Haussler for the tour and Goss for the Vuelta.

Well, if the profile's are this year's, then good luck with Tyler at the Giro, mate. Pfft

Indeed it will be very hard in the 2011 edition. But also the Tour has some hard sprint stages, so Haussler is the better rider there. So 3-5 good Farrar stages in the Giro maximum.

The Étoile de Bessèges is a 5-day stage race in Southern France and was first held in 1971. It takes place in the Cévennes area in a mix of flat and hilly stages.
Big names such as McEwen, Brochard, Voeckler or Thurau won this race. Record winner with 2 wins each are Jean-Luc Molineris (FRA) and Jo Planckaert (BEL).

Route 2013
As there are no original Besseges stages yet I decided to create my own "variant" with my own stages I rarely use like stages of the Man Game Deutschland Tour and other stages.
3 stages will be pretty flat with just some hill, 1 will have a few hilly but still a sprinter stage, while one has a few harder hills but the well climbing sprinters might still have chances to win.

Garmin squad

Goss might be our leader here as his form is already a bit better after the Tour Down Under. But if the hill is too hard for him we have other options in Maaskant and Felline. Pate and Dao might be part of the sprint train, while Phinney is doing his debut for us. We expect something great of him and are happy to have signed him.
Murphy and French rider Souchon complete the team.
