That´s a good question! I asked the same myself,too but I saw that the sponsors contracts still last until the end of 2012.

First stage is a nice prologue over 2 kilometres which is a very short one. Mark Cavendish is an excellent rider for a track like this today but remember, his shape isn´t that good at the moment.

The favourites:

+++ Sagan, Tuft, Cavendish
++ Ignatiev, Costa, Intxausti
+ Kittel, Pate, Peraud

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0011-1.jpg
Konovalovas was one of the first riders on the road today. He´s famous for some nice performances in ITT´s but is he strong enough to set a good time in this short prologue today? He is, he got the new best time with 3´10.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0013-1.jpg
Unfortunately for him, the time didn´t last for a long time. When his team mate Intxausti crossed the line he was the new leader. All in all he was 1 second faster in the end. Also Grivko and Ignatiev got the same time.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0018-1.jpg
Peter Sagan is maybe the big overall favourites. His shape must be good already. Only 1 second behind the Spaniard.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0020-1.jpg
Another favourite for today´s stage win was Tuft, the Canadian Champion. He did a good job there but in the end he missed the best time by 2 seconds.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0021-2.jpg
Marcel Kittel had a good start of his season so far and we were really excited about his performance today. His time was ok but nothing special. He finished as 28th with 6 seconds to the stage winner.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0025-1.jpg
Last rider today was Mark Cavendish and we could see that he´s not in a good shape. He lost 7 seconds today but it´s still a great position for the next couple of days. Inxausti won the stage but all in all it was a very close stage. Many riders got the same time but let´s take a look at the results.

Today´s stage in Mallorca is another flat one for the sprinters. Although there are some smaller climbs today, it should come to a bunch sprint in the end. Rasmussen showed a great shape yesterday, winning the stage and the overall lead.

The favourites:

+++ Rasmussen, Impey, Fernandez
++ Traksel, Galdos, Eisel
+ Boeckmans, Honig, Del Nero

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0002-1.jpg
A 12 man breakaway took the lead early today. The group was strong enough to get an advantage over 10 minutes. With 60 kilometres to go, it was HTC who made the pace but we had no help from other teams there.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0003-3.jpg
With 25 kilometres to go, we finally got some help by the German team NetApp. They were also interested in another mass sprint for Impey today. Only 2 minutes for the breakaway up to here.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0004-3.jpg
The sprint trains were already built but the break was still in front by 40 seconds when the last 4 kilometres were reached.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0005-3.jpg
Eisel did a good job today for Rasmussen but it was too late. The group was too strong today and although the sprinters were faster the road was too close.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0006-2.jpg
Rasmussen was by far the quickest of the pack but he wasn´t able to overtake in this small home stretch. Larralde took the stage out of the break and he also got the overall lead by Rasmussen. Pretty unlucky stage for us today.

The second stage in Qatar is completely flat. Mark Cavendish is only 7 from the leading jersey and with a stage win or a second position he could take the overall lead.

The favourites:

+++ Cavendish, Kittel, Ventoso
++ Davis, Galimzyanov, Sagan
+ Pozzato, Gatto, Förster

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0009-1.jpg
The most famous name in today´s break was Van Hummel. Maybe the most important leadout man for Marcel Kittel was in the leading group which was a big surprise in my opinion. The had no chance against the pack today.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0010-1.jpg
Because of an incredible wind in the end our team had no chance to build a sprint train until the last 3,5 kilometres. We already thought the stage was over for us while Astana and Sagan were far in front. The Velits´brothers were leading the pack after the made the pace but they were completely exhausted so no chance for them to win the stage. In the last second we were able to create our train with Pate, Brammeier, Degenkolb and Cavendish while Vaitkus, Davis and Sagan were already in the strong wind.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0011-2.jpg
The last metres were in front of us and the Astana duo Vaitkus and Davis made a big mistake there! Davis left the slipstream of his leadout man too early and also Sagan was completely alone in the win while Cavendish was still behind Degenkolb. Pate and Brammeier made an amazing job to bring Cavendish in this great position.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0012-1.jpg
Finally Cav made his move. No one has such an acceleration. No one could follow him in these moments. Ventoso on the right was the strong contender today but Sagan and Davis were just to early in the terrible win.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0013-2.jpg
Cavendish takes the stage and the overall lead, followed by Ventoso and Peter Sagan. Great stage for us after a crazy final with a lot of wind there.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/1-12.jpg
Today is the first stage in Spain with some action. The last climb with 35 kilometres to go is not that easy. Our leader Van Garderen is going to improve his shape today but we should take a look at the Spanish teams like Movistar or Euskatel.

The favourites:

+++ Sanchez, Lastras, Nieve
++ De Waele, Arroyo, Bruseghin
+ Galdos, Van Garderen, Txurruka

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0003-4.jpg
When the break was brought back to the pack, it was especially Movistar and Euskatel, making a high pace when the highest point of today´s stage was reached. Van Garderen and his team mates lost the contact to them on the top of the climb.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0004-4.jpg
The main groups were built in the downhill. Sanchez, Nieve, Lastras, Ardila and Bruseghin were in the first group while their team mates were right behind them. Van Garderen lost already 2 minutes.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0005-4.jpg
The second group was quite funny as no one made the pace there. They lost second after second but they knew their captains are in the leading group.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0007-2.jpg
The sprint started in the first group with Lastras in front of Samuel Sanchez.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0008-3.jpg
And the Movistar rider took the stage. Sanchez and Nieve got two podiums for Euskatel and Van Garderen came in with 2´25 to them.

Another windy stage in Qatar is waiting for us today. With Mark Cavendish in the overall lead we´re quite happy so far but we´re not that happy about this weather conditions. The strong wind makes it difficult for us to create our sprint trains.

The favourites:

+++ Cavendish, Ventoso, Davis
++ Galimzyanov, Sagan, Kittel
+ Pozzato, Guradini, Paolini

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0012-2.jpg
Again a really ugly day in the desert today as no team could bring their sprint captains into a good position. Mark Cavendish had to try on his own, taking Sagan´s wheel.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0013-3.jpg
With only 4 kilometres to go, this position seems to be not that bad. Katusha with Pozzato was in front, followed by Förster and Davis.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0014-1.jpg
Finally, it wasn´t the best decision to take Sagan´s wheel today because he couldn´t follow Pozzato and Davis. Cavendish had to sprint on his own in the strong wind and there he had no chance to survive for a long time.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0015-2.jpg
Allan Davis takes the stage and the overall lead by Cavendish but Mark has the same time so everything is still possible. Pozzato and Förster finished on the podium while even Mokrov was faster than Cavendish.

There is no chance for a mass sprint today as there is a nice climb with 40 kilometres to go. After the Spanish domination yesterday, the question today might be which team is winning. Euskatel or Movistar? Van Garderen is in a nice overall position, hopefully we can keep it. Also a Top 5 might be possible as the gap isn´t really big.

The favourites:

+++ Sanchez, Lastras, Nieve
++ Bruseghin, Txurruka, Arroyo
+ Herrada, Gutierrez, Ardila

There was a big group in front today with the King of Mountains Perez from Movistar. Again he got 22 points and is still the leader in this competition.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0003-5.jpg
With still 3 kilometres to go, our team captain Van Garderen was in trouble! He couldn´t follow the incredible pace made by Euskatel and Movistar. His team mates were completely exhausted,too.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0004-5.jpg
The leading group was built in the downhill. 4 Movistar riders against 3 of Euskatel, oh yes and of course Ardila was there,too. Again he was the only one, who could follow them.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0005-5.jpg
And he really wants to know it. He´s the first one making a move on the last uphill. Only Sanchez wants to counter that. His team mates don´t want to help him so far.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0006-4.jpg
Lastras and Bruseghin brought them back just a few seconds later with a high pace. Absolutely great to watch them in the last kilometres while Van Garderen already lost 5 minutes so far.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0007-3.jpg
The next attack came by Nieve which was really surprising. He´s not only attack the Movistar riders but also his own team captain Sanchez in the leading jersey.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0008-4.jpg
Nieve had a nice gap but the chasing group was able to catch him in the end. So there were no bigger time gaps today.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0009-2.jpg
Nieve still managed to finish on the top of the podium while Lastras and Bruseghin became second and third. Sanchez lost his overall lead to Nieve because of the time bonification. But I´m sure there will be some discussion in the Euskatel team after Nieve´s attack. Van Garderen came in with more than 5 minutes to the leading group, he also lost his overall Top 10 position.

Let's hope Cavendish will get back is lead from Alan Davis. Smile In Mallorca... if you're avatar had another guy, maybe HTC would have better luck. Grin

Just caught up with this one after not being able with my Netbook. Wink
Close battle in Qatar. Van Garderen obviously not that good in form.

Well, we lost the yellow jersey to Davis yesterday but we´re still in a good position to get it back. The most important thing is to get the sprint train we need to bring Cav in the best position.

The favourites:

+++ Cavendish, Davis, Ventoso
++ Galimzyanov, Pozzato, Guardini
+ Kittel, Degenkolb, Paolini

Same picture as everyday in Qatar. The wind is too strong for us. Maybe we´re too silly these days but we´re not able to build our famous sprint train.
Anyway Cavendish looks out for Pozzato´s wheel.

i908.photobucket.com/albums/ac288/FedExpress/HTC-HIGHROAD%202011/PCM0012-3.jpg
But we´re not that good these days in Qatar. Pozzato was the strongest today as Cavendish lost his wheel in the windy home stretch. His lead out men Degenkolb and Brammeier were not able to bring him in a good position,too. So we have to be happy with another 5th place.

Cav is still in reach for at least the points-lead (and GC as well)! I can see him winning a stage here, if he gets a better position next time.
