E3 Prijs - Harelbeke 1.HC
If you look at the stages of E3 and Gent-Wevelgem then you probably think that today is a bit harder. But that also depends on the riders and of course the weather, today the weather was beautiful so that was a negative point less for the riders. The stage suites Breschel perfectly but riders as Cancellara (LEO) and Boonen (QST) are the real favorites for today, we also take a good look at Garmin with Hushovd and Haussler.
A large group got away with Wynants from Rabobank, the other riders are Hunt (SKY), Damuseau (SKS), Klemme (LEO), Sesma (EUS), Paterski (LIQ) and Barta (NET). You can see that Maarten, Hunt and Klemme are by far the best cobble riders from the group.
In the pack you see that Garmin is controlling the pace, they have several riders who should be able to win here today.
The breakaway didn’t get far and with 20k this is what was left of the pack, 21 riders who still make chance at the kisses of the miss of today! Boom, Langeveld and Breschel represent Rabobank in this group.
Gilbert (OLO) attacks but it’s Leukemans (VAC) in the back who is very strong and makes the jump to one of his best friends in the peloton. In the group it’s Flecha (SKY) who is chasing the two Belgium riders. With 10k the group is back together and it’s going to be a sprint…
Very suprising today, it was Leukemans who won in front of Gilbert and Cancellara. Matti just missed the podium with a 4th place, the sprints in cobbled races are very weird because riders as Leukemans and Gilbert just ride full gas until 1k for the finish and then start to sprint. Maybe I’ll have to use another tactic tomorrow in Gent-Wevelgem.

Today might be a bit easier, Freire already won here a few times and he might do the same trick today. It’s his last race in this period and he want a positive ending of course! But at the start we saw that it could be a very hard day, it was very windy and the sky looks like it was going to burst rain any second. Again Boonen was the top favorite for todays race…
Not much to report actually, a group with Vermeltfoort got away, other riders were Paterski (LIQ), Kasheschkin (LAM), Peter Velits (HTC), Kiserlovski (AST), Oyarzun (MOV), Ruijg (VAC) and Pinot (FDJ). When they had 60k left the gap was back to 44” while the maximum was only 3’10”.
With 40k to go this was the first group led by Steegmans (QST), the group still contained 44 riders. But would soon split to 21 riders, Freire, Boom and Breschel were in the first group while Langeveld lost contact when he went to the back to get some water. Very ugly… But the first group stayed together until the end and like yesterday it was again a sprint…
My tactics didn’t worked out fine, don’t know what happened riders as Flecha weren’t sprinting and was going as fast as Breschel who was sprinting. It might be because there better shape but still it was a bit weird, Breschel is a good sprinter so we expected more than a 10th place today. Freire was also in the first group but didn’t had any power left for a sprint, maybe next year.
Again it was Leukemans who won today, he must be in a super condition this weekend. Two out of two! Again Boonen couldn’t make it to the podium so he was pretty disappointing although he knows that Flanders and Roubaix still have to come, but there have has to fight against Cancellara and Breschel of course!

Leukemans did a great job in this two races, quite a surprise.. good 4th for Breschel in E3, though it's always a pity to miss the podium that close. Better luck next time!

Vuelta a Catalunya
Pro Tour
Stage 5
El Vendrell - Barcelona
Not a very hard stage but there is a though sprint in the end, Martens, Matthews and Barredo could ride a nice result here but it will probably be for riders as Hesjedal (GAR) who is also the top favorite here, or other good hillers.
The usual break with Erviti (MOV), Maes (QST) and Chuzda (CAJ). At 1’28” behind them it’s Kohler (BMC) but he isn’t able to close the gap. At 100k from the finish they made a gap of 7’35” back to the pack. But Garmin and Astana are chasing so they don’t make any chance today.
In the mass sprint it is Hesjedal who takes the win in front of Carrara (VAC) and Kreuziger (AST). It was Geslin (FDJ) at the 6th place who lost speed and so the first five created a gap of 13” and we lost our top 10 spot in the GC…
Results:
1 Ryder Hesjedal Team Garmin - Cervélo 4h20'41
2 Matteo Carrara Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team s.t.
3 Roman Kreuziger Pro Team Astana s.t.
Stage 6
Sant Cugat del Vallès - Montmeló
A stage with will end up in a mass sprint so with Leezer as a lead out and Matthews as our sprinter we have a nice chance of winning here.
But Leezer his lead out was not really good, Matthews was way too early at the front of the peloton so with 2k to go he already now that this wasn’t going to be his day, he became 5th today.
Results:
1 Anthony Geslin FDJ 2h27'19

Hopefully that Flanders and Roubaix will go a little bit better, I think I just suck on cobble races!

KBC-Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde 2.HC
Stage 1
Middelkerke - Oudenaarde
The first stage is also a decisive one, some hard hills and difficult cobble sections make this stage half a classic. Of course the whole team will ride for Lars Boom, he is our leader and made the KBC-Driedaagse to one of his goals. With the time trial in the end it’s possible but with opponents as Devolder (VAC), Cancellara (LEO), Nuyens (SAX) and a very strong Leukemans (VAC) it’s going to be very hard.
The break of the day contain a lot of riders today, the first stage of De Panne is also known as one where attackers could make it to the end. This because the favorites are alone sometimes when there is still 60 kilometers to go. Some of the names who tried it today were Caruso (LIQ), Hulsmans (DON), Sergent (TSH), Gueson (FDJ) and his teammate Bouhanni.
But they never got further than 2’40” because Rabobank and HTC are keeping a steady pace. We really want to win this stage race, it will be our second after Qatar!
With 30k to go the breakaway is 1’10” in front and Boom had just set a hard pace on one of the small hills. Only Veelers (SKS), Marcato (VAC) and his teammate Flens are able to follow.
But they can’t hold his wheel for long, also Flens got tired very fast and waited for the bigger first group. Boom is 24” in front of the group with the favorites, the gap to the Verheyen (LAN) who is now in the lead is only 48”.
On the last cobbled section Boom passed Verheyen and half way the section it were Cancellara and Devolder who attacked! The gap was 39” but now they are coming very close! It is only 18” and easily to close at this point. But at the first hill Lars gives his all and when Cancellara closes the gap with Devolder he don’t want to ride with the Belgium champion, this was the moment for Lars and the gap got bigger and bigger…
Devolder and Cancellara argued enough to create a nice gap! A beautiful victory for Lars Boom, this is how he wants it, all alone at the finish.
Exactually one minute later it is Cancellara who wins the sprint of Devolder, the pack arrives at 1’29” from Boom so it will probably between these three guys if nothing happens on the next stages.
Results:
1 Lars Boom Rabobank Cycling Team 5h02'39
2 Fabian Cancellara Leopard Trek + 1'00
3 Stijn Devolder Vacansoleil - DCM Pro Cycling Team s.t.
Stage 2
Oudenaarde – De Panne
Despite the hill and small cobbled section in the middle of the stage this one will usually end up in a mass sprint.
The break of the day in the descent of the only hill today, some of the riders are Kiserlovski (AST), Sergent (TSH) again, Ulissi (LAM), Geniez (SKS) and Schmitz (WVE).
But the two Dutch teams Vacansoleil and Rabobank were keeping control of the situation.
We tried to sprint with Van Emden but he got a bit boxed in, he’s also not good enough against guys as Bonnet (FDJ) and Goss (HTC).
But it was Wouter Weylandt who won the sprint, he was very strong and Bonnet and Goss didn’t make any chance.
Results:
1 Wouter Weylandt Leopard - Trek 3h20'08
2 William Bonnet Francaise des Jeux s.t.
3 Matthew Goss HTC – High Road s.t.
Stage 3
De Panne - De Panne
Not even 100k at this stage, but because of the wind and because the stage is very short the riders are giving there 100% from the start. So it is a very dangerous stage to lose time.
The break of today didn’t had very known riders in it, Garcia Acosta (MOV), Didier (SAX) and Geniez (SKS) were the “better” riders of them. Also Jasper Ockeloen was in the first group, he ride for the Rabobank Continental team last year but when he heard he didn’t get a pro contract jet he moved to the smaller Belgium Donckers Coffee team.
The group didn’t stand a chance and again Weylandt (LEO) was a lot stronger than the rest, while Lars Boom became third just by staying in the wheel of Wouter. It was Veelers (SKS) who took the last spot on the podium.
Results:
1 Wouter Weylandt Leopard Trek 2h14'11
2 Lars Boom Rabobank Cycling Team s.t.
3 Tom Veelers Skil - Shimano s.t.
Stage 4
Koksijde - De Panne ITT
A short time trial so Lars should be able to defend his 1’00 lead against “Spartacus”. Flens still has the same time as the big group and he’s not a bad timetrialist so he might be able to get in the top 10, since riders as Leukemans (VAC), Nuyens (SAX) and Goss (HTC) aren’t really good in it.
Devolder (VAC) was a bit disappointing today, he became 8th with 41” to the first rider of today. Luckily for him that he was enough in front to keep his GC podium.
Geraint Thomas (SKY) set a very good time of 12’08” and became 4th in the GC now.
Boom defended his jersey as he promised and became 2nd at 30” seconds from the winner, which was of course…
Cancellara (LEO), this was a piece of cake for him. He won 30” at only 11 kilometer, really outstanding today.
Results:
1 Fabian Cancellara Leopard Trek 11'35
2 Lars Boom Rabobank Cycling Team + 30
3 Geraint Thomas Sky ProCycling + 33
General
1 Lars Boom Rabobank Cycling Team 12h29'37

Hel van het Mergelland 2.1
The route is very hilly but with a weak starting field we should be able to “easily” win here. In a breakaway with Sebastian or with Matthews as our sprinter.
Tankink and Martens kept the pack close to everybody who tried to attack so with 20k to go this was a more serious attack of Bakelandts (OLO). It was Langeveld who attacked and they created a small gap of 28” with 17k to go.
But the Willems Veranda’s team brought the pack back to the two leaders, so it was going to be a sprint with a group of 49 riders. This time Leezer did his lead out a lot better and Matthews took a easy victory today.

Thanks for the comments! It was also very good of Weylandt, winning both mass sprints!

Mergelland was really easy actually, not a lot of fun. And in the first stage of De Panne I was lucky that Cancellara didn't want to ride along with Devolder. Otherwise they had close the gap very easy! I hope to ride good results in Flanders, Roubaix and Pais Vasco now.

Nice win with Mr. Bling in de Hel! Just a few wins in the Basque Country, and Rabo is ready for AGR, La Flèche and LBL!
Rabo is but my computer isn't, it crashes all the times and this weekend i'm trying to figure out why. Already installed it twice but it keeps on crashing. It's very weird because I played a whole season with Farnese already and then nothing happend...
Maybe someone has a tip?
