@ Roturn, thanks. Hopefully Cunego can have a good month, the sponsors want a top 5 in L-B-L so he'll have to do well.
Unfortunately RVV crashed before the replay and I didn't take any pics during the race, so I don't have any screens for that. Stage 1 of Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco did the same thing. I've tried turning off the replays and so far that seems to have worked. |

@ all - Thanks a lot.
As i said in an earlier post, the game crashed before the replay in RVV so unfortunately it'll just be a short report without any pics for that race.
Ronde Van Vlaanderen
After deciding to skip Gent - Wevelgem and instead race at the Volta a Catalunya, Fabian Cancellara returns to the cobbles here. It will take a very strong man to beat him.
Fabian Cancellara dominated this race. When he attacked he quickly dropped all those who tried to follow him before. The peleton behind culd only watch helplessly as Spartacus romped powered away from them. He won by a huge margin in the end, over 3 minutes. Sylvain Chavanel continued his great season after winning MSR last month he took 2nd place here.
We were no match for the favourites today, Hondo and Bernucci managed 42nd and 43rd respectively, 13'30" behind.

@ Batista15 - Yeah, he just rode away from everyone else with ease. I was quite happy when I saw he'd skipped Gent - Wevelgem as it meant there would be a bit of competition.

This race will be a vital lead up race for many riders hoping to shine at the hilly Classics later this month.
Joaquim Rodriguez is the favourite to take out this race. After a hollow overall victory at the Volta a Catalunya where he claimed victory when race leader Jurgen Van den Boeck fell, Rodriguez will be looking to win this race fair and square.
The Spaniard will face face fierce competition from the likes of Cadel Evans, Vincenzo Nibali, Alexandre Vinokourov, Igor Anton, Chris Horner, Andreas Kloden, Ezequiel Mosquera, Philippe Gilbert and our Damiano Cunego.
We're sending a very strong team to this race. Damiano Cunego will be racing to build his fitness ahead of the Ardennes Classics, but he will also be aiming for a good result here. Alessandro Petacchi is present here but the course doesn't look like suiting him, he will be just looking to get some km's into his legs ahead of the Giro.
This is definately not a race for the pure sprinters and as a result very few are in attendance. |

This stage crashed as well before the replay, so unfortunately no screenshots.
Vuelta al Pais Vasco
Stage 1
The short climb before the finish should ensure the race doesn't end in a mass sprint. However as the finish is flat it is likely that a small group will make it to the line together.
As the peleton climbed the final climb a small leading group formed at the front. Cunego was present here.
Near the top of the climb Cunego and Juan Manuel Garate pulled away from the group.
As the two approached the finish together unfortunately Cunego didn't have a very good posistion and when the sprint started he was a few lengths behind Garate.
Despite probably being the better sprinter Cungego wasn't able to close the gap and Garate took the win. The other members of the group that formed on the climb managed to avoid losing any time to these two, they caught up to them at the line.

Vuelta al Pais Vasco
Stage 2
The finish is pretty flat and that should mean a sprint finish, however with very few sprinters in the race, it's hard to pick a winner.
Francesco Gavazzi got himself in today's break. He picked up lots of KOM points along the way to take the lead in that competion and will wear the KOM jersey tomorrow.
The peleton didn't seem too concerned by the break and gave them plenty of room. Under the 10km to go banner and Gavazzi was still out in front with a decent advantage. Petacchi had found this terrain too difficult and dropped out of the peleton, Danilo Hondo had the same problem even Mikel Lorezetto was struggling. Cunego would be pur best hope if the race came together for a sprint.
CRASH! We have have a crash in the pack, World Champion Cadel Evans is down and so too is Alexandre Vinokourov! They are able to get back on their bikes, however their overall cances look very slim now. The slippery roads have caused havoc here today.
Whilst all this was happening the break had been caught by the peleton just as the sprint started. Damiano Cunego decided he might as well have a crack at the sprint, who knows a good result could even give him overall lead. But he wasn't able to latch onto a train and had to go alone.
Philippe Gilbert was won the sprint to the line, outclassing other puncheurs such as Voeckler, Roy, Rodriguez and Cunego who sprinted well for 5th place.
A large group containing many of the crash victims crossed the line 2'28" later. The biggest losers today were Thomas Lovkvist, Cadel Evans, Alexandre Vinokourov, Tony Martin and Chris Horner. All men will now proably have to give up their hope for a good overall result. Chris Horner lost over 10 minutes today. I can't actually remember him crashing, but he must have if he lost that much time.
At the end of the stage we were reeted with a nice suprise, thanks to his 5th place finish today Damiano Cunego had taken the overall lead! A great bonus, lets see if we can keep it right to the finish.

@ Batista15 - Thanks, it's really nice to hear that
@ roturn - Thanks, it will be tough, hopefully he can use the final stage ITT to take some time on Rodriguez and hopefully that will be enough to give him victory. And yeah I agree with your earlier post about Vino, had he not crashed he would have been hard to beat given he'll dominate the final ITT.
@ janne_837 - Thanks, this is our first PT race where we've had one of the top favourites, so it will be fun to see what we can do. |

Vuelta al Pais Vasco
Stage 3
Today will be a decisive day, the final climb is steep and will definately reveal which riders are the strongest in this race.
Cunego enjoyed showing off his leaders Yellow Jersey.
Katusha seemed happy to do most of the work on the front of the peleton today. This worked well for us as we're not the strongest climbing team.
On the small climbs approaching the finish Cunego showed looked very comfortable, at one stage riding right up to the head of the peleton.
Shortly afterwards the attacks start coming.
Cunego follows them. We're not on the final climb yet and still a fair way from the finish
Cunego is obviously considered a dangerou man and other teams quickly step up the pace to pull him back in. Before long all the attackers are caught. Cunego now has to try to save as much energy as possible as he used up a fair amount in his attack.
Up the steep final climb, Rodriguez makes his move, while behind him the peleton are all strung out. Cunego's doing some work on the front trying to limit his losses.
In the space of just a few km's Rodriguez managed to open up a huge gap on his rivals. He looked certain to move into the overall lead after today.
Joaquim Rodriguez takes a comanding victory and moves into the overall lead, could this be the decisive move of the race?
Our man Damiano Cunego lost his Yellow Jersey today, he tired near the finish and could only manage 10th over 2 minutes behind the Spaniard and drops to 5th overall, but there's still plenty of racing to come.
