Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
FreitasPCM
Nicely done by Fischer, but Farrar really doesn't seem to have good luck so far.

roturn
Indeed. Don`t know what`s wrong with him. His shape is quite good.
Last year he had 4 stage wins in Qatar with a similar shape. This year he had big problems finding a wheel. After having a wheel his pulse was immediately red and he lost all power before the real sprint. Strange.
But I am quite sure that this will be better if he is in top shape and there is less wind Wink
Otherwise I can forget to win the sprinter jersey in TdF, what`s very hard in my TdF variant of 2008, which takes part this year. Many flat stages for good hilly sprinters like Haussler and Freire.

Martijn Maaskant
Lars Boom
Ricardo Van Der Velde
Tyler Farrar
Johan Vansummeren

It`s the same team as yesterday. Although Fischer had a great result yesterday we will ride for Farrar in first line. Today is not that hard to get rid of most sprinters. Last year he had a 2nd what he wants to repeat.

Favourites:
As the startlist is quite the same to yesterday, we have to watch Goddaert and Freire which seem to be in an very good shape. Also Farrar and Boonen are of course favourites in a sprint finish.
If there are attacks then especially guys like Cancellara, Gilbert, Hoste and Breschel have good chances.

img259.imageshack.us/img259/4493/profileqy.jpg
Kuurne - Kuurne
Today it`s much more windy than yesterday. 56km/h.

img233.imageshack.us/img233/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
After 30km the peloton is still together on the first cobbles. All attacks are back in the field.

img404.imageshack.us/img404/575/kpcm0013.jpg
The first group stood after just 55km. Moinard (Cofidis), De Schrooder (An Post), Tiralongo (Astana), Degard (Verandas) and Seeldraeyers are part of it.

Nothing really happened all over the race. No further attacks. Quickstep and Saxobank were doing the pace.

img177.imageshack.us/img177/655/kpcm0014.jpg
So as expected the group was caught 21km to the line.
Matti Breschel immediately attacks out of a 50 men peloton.

img412.imageshack.us/img412/2821/kpcm0015.jpg
But he had no chance on the totally flat roads now. This time Farrar is in a perfect position behind Haedo and Cancellara. Pozzato on the left, Boonen on the right.

img207.imageshack.us/img207/4895/kpcm0016.jpg
Pozzato was the first in the wind. Just Farrar was able to follow and overtake him. So after a bad February for him he wins a big classic.
In general this was a very weird sprint with just these two real riders sprinting. Maaskant, Vansummeren and Boom were sprinting in comparison to many other riders, that started to sprint on 1km. So all of the mare still in top10?! Wasn`t this way last year.

Now I wrote quite a lot this weekend and am almost on the same level than my career. Just 2-3 more stages played than written. But cause of university I don`t have the time to write lots of stories on every day during the week.

Like in 2010 Ryder Hesjedal starts his season with this race in preparation of Tirreno, Milano San Remo and especially the Ardennes classics.
He is supported by a very good squad. Kessiakoff is his last backup in the hard finish. This year he wants to get another top 10 result.

Favourites:
Just from their names it`s of course Evans and Kirchen (Katusha), Gerrans (ISD) and Hesjedal (Garmin). But most of them are still preparing. So other riders like Sinkewitz (ISD), P. Velits and Siutsou (HTC), Moreno (Omega) and Lövkvist (Sky) are also very strong riders.

img179.imageshack.us/img179/3457/profilebq.jpg
The first half of todays race is a easier circuit. Then the harder circuit begins. Both have 5 rounds. Probably the race will be decided on the last 2 climbs.

img696.imageshack.us/img696/4198/kpcm0004.jpg
After 30km the first group stays. In front of the magnificent backdrop of Lugano Loosly (Lampre), Pinizzato (Miche), Gutierrez (Footon), Tamayo (Carmiooro), Tankink (Rabobank), Kritsky (Katusha), Cummings (Sky), Denifl (Cervelo), Zaugg (Liquigas), Dominguez (Euskaltel) and Kristoff (BMC) are escaping the peloton.

img100.imageshack.us/img100/7457/kpcm0005b.jpg
Especially Garmin and ISD-Neri are doing the pace behind. The groups seems to big and a few dangerous riders are there, too. So the difference is never bigger than 2min.

img214.imageshack.us/img214/362/kpcm0007.jpg
After 78km we catch them and immediately another attack by B. Noval (Euskaltel).

img830.imageshack.us/img830/6813/kpcm0008.jpg
Eibegger (Footon) and Marzano (Lampre) join him. All 3 of them are good climber, but 3 riders is still better than 11. Also there is no one of Katusha in front, so they will probably do some pace, too.
58km -> 4`30

img177.imageshack.us/img177/6497/kpcm0010.jpg
On one of the hard climbs Sinkewitz (ISD) attacks and tries to close the gap to the group.
The peloton became a small group now and just Kessiakoff and Hesjedal were able to stay there. But on the hard climbs they have to work very hard to stay there. It`s the first race this season for them, so they don`t have the best shape yet.
29km -> 3`24.

img242.imageshack.us/img242/4137/kpcm0011.jpg
Noval is rid of his 2 group mates and also Sinkewitz is almost there. But not far behind him the favourites are coming.

img718.imageshack.us/img718/3458/kpcm0012.jpg
Just Noval in front, then Sinkewitz with a few meters to a very small group now. Kessiakoff felt back, but this is the last climb and Hesjedal feels better now than the 2 hills before.

img20.imageshack.us/img20/575/kpcm0013.jpg
The group was almost there, but the climb was 500m too short. On the descent the group splits again but they couldn`t close the gap to Noval or Sinkewitz. Hesjedal and 4 other riders fights for the 3rd. But in the end he must live with a 5th as Kirchen and Gerrans were the better sprinters.
This will give him self-confidence for the following races.
Like last year a break wins this race.

Summary of February

img651.imageshack.us/img651/1671/ergebnisse.jpg
It wasn`t the most successful February for us. But it was still a good one. Two 2nd places with Sanchez in overall. Farrar won KBK and one stage in Qatar and Hesjedal was able to get another top 10 in Lugano.
But especially in Qatar we had expected much more. Also the 2nd in the Mallorca Challenge was very angry.
But I think we can build on these results in March where a lot of big races expects us.

img830.imageshack.us/img830/9483/awardsq.jpg
Cataldo won the Giro di Sardegna and 3 stages. Also he showed a great performance on Mallorca.
Bessy profits his breakaway in the Tour de Haut Var, where they where caught on top of the last hill. So he could follow the very small favourite group on the descent and celebrated a surprising 5th overall.

Our race schedule in March:

img146.imageshack.us/img146/9590/kalendero.jpg
The March is characterized with the next big races after the Tour Down Under.
Also the first monument is there with Milano San Remo.
The next two paralles stage races are Paris Nice and Tirreno.
In PN we want to get a very good result with Luis Leon Sanchez, who won it last year.
Although Hesjedal will take part in Tirreno, we can`t expect too much there. He is still building up his fitness.
In MSR we want to have a podium. Last year Farrar wasn`t able to stay in first group on the last 2 hills, but he will give it another try. But we have also some altneratives. Hesjedal attacked last year and became a good 5th, LL Sanchez can also play a good part there.
Kessiakoff will be our leader in Catalunya. Last year David Millar lost with just 3s to Kirchen the overall, but Kessiakoff might be a bit stronger on the hills.
In Gent Wevelgem it will be very hard to defend the double win, but at least we want to get another podium there.
Vansummeren, Maaskant, Farrar and Boom are all able to do this.

Nice story! Interesting read, I love storys in the future. Keep up the good work Grin

Good result with Hesjedal. Now, make sure he gets in the top-10 at Tirreno. Wink Pfft

Look at the calendar and you'll see that Garmin won't race Strade Bianche. Wink

I was hoping since it wasn't shown that they would be racing.

Good to see Bessy is getting his rightful dues Wink

Looking forward to P-N, T-A, MSR, and any other acronym-ed races.

Thanks for all the postings Wink
After my 2010 season I really wanted to ride it but I forgot it again and just remembered when it was simulated ;(
So if I remember it, then next year.

Paris Nice or "the race to the sun" is a Pro Tour race in March. It leads from Paris to Nice in 7 stages.
The most successful cyclist in Paris Nice was Sean Kelly from Ireland. He won seven consecutive titles (1982–1988).

With Sanchez we have last years winner in our team, so he will be one of the overall favourites of course. With Vansummeren, Lowe, Danielson and Millar he has quite a strong team behind him.
Robert Hunter will be our men for the sprints, although most sprint stages are quite hilly, too.

Favourites:
Biggest favourites are LL and Samu Sanchez, the Schleck brothers and Gilbert.
But we should also have a look on T.Martin, Wiggins, Vaugrenard, Brajkovic, Cobo Acebo, Gesink and Roche.
In general it`s a very strong field here and listing all favourites would be too long.

roturn
Paris Nice - stage 1
Montfort-l'Amaury - prologue

img178.imageshack.us/img178/6205/profilem.jpg
Today the prologue specialists will have a big chance to take the leaderjersey for the next stages. With Sanchez and Millar we have two of them. But there is also a short cobbled uphill passage to a mountain sprint. So there might be some rider which try to get this jersey and going with full speed on the first km before slowing down and rolling into the finish.
Who wants to win today must beat Martin first. Next to Cancellara he is the best time trialist and definitely in a great shape.

img246.imageshack.us/img246/4356/millarparisnice.jpg
David Millar after the start. Can he surprise us today?

img297.imageshack.us/img297/6871/perget.jpg
Mathieu Perget, the French rider of the Caisse d`Epargne team on the cobbles.
As many riders he tries to ride on the outlet to avoid a puncture or a crash.

img256.imageshack.us/img256/2893/sagans.jpg
One of the favourites today. Can Sagan get the jersey?

img203.imageshack.us/img203/4035/jensvoigtprologue.jpg
Jens Voigt is always a big favourite in all prologues but he was already a few seconds back on the first checkpoint.

img88.imageshack.us/img88/1888/garmin.jpg
Millar a few metres in front of the finish line. He rides very well but it`s not enough for the podium.

As expected Tony Martin wins, but just 1s ahead of Gilbert. Luis Leon Sanchez with a good 6th. So he beated most of his overall opponents today. Also Millar with a very good 10th. The Schleck`s and Sanchez already lost more than 30s.
